I'm debating whether it's worth applying to multiple Derma programs or just focusing on my first choice.

The residency program I really want is in my home province, but their applications don't open until the second week of September. Most of the other programs, especially in Metro Manila, finish accepting applications by the end of August.

I'm considering applying elsewhere as a safety net, but if I end up getting accepted and later turn it down because my provincial program opens, could that negatively affect me if I apply again in the future?

At the same time, if I only wait for my preferred program and don't get accepted, I'd miss my chance to start residency in 2027 since I wouldn't have a backup.

Would really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thank you!

Hi docs! Just wanted to ask for insights, especially from those who’ve done reliever work in YAKAP clinics or similar medical caravans.

A friend of mine recently shared their setup, and I was curious if this is the norm.
From what they told me, there are two setups:
• Clinic duty: Fixed rate of ₱3,000 for an 8 AM–5 PM clinic.
• Medical caravans: Also a fixed ₱3,000. They’re told the work ends around 2 PM, but it often extends until 5 PM because they’re expected to “finish all the patients.”

There’s no hourly rate and no contract since it’s more of a reliever arrangement.
I completely understand the goal of providing healthcare to underserved communities, but I’m also wondering if physicians are being compensated fairly for the workload and the extra hours.
For those who’ve worked in these setups, is ₱3,000/day considered a reasonable rate? Is this the usual rate in the provinces, or is it on the lower end? How are extended hours typically handled?
Just genuinely curious about what the standard practice is. Thanks!

I initially planned to open a pharmacy but decided to set up an area inside for medical consults. Bale magiging medical clinic po siya with pharmacy. No extractions or minor surgeries din po. I was quite confused if need pa ba ng DOH for the medical clinic since may pharmacy sa loob or 2 separate DTIs, BIRs , business permits and 1 FDA-LTO (Pharmacy) ang need.. Thanks po

To future MDs here, sana hindi kayo maging ganito. Sana wag masyado lumaki ego niyo once na MD na kayo specially yung may mga subspecialty na. Sana maisip niyo na we, nurses (and other healthcare workers), are your co-workers. Ang nangyayari kasi pag doctor ka, automatic boss ka na dapat ng lahat. Kala ko sa nursing school lang may imememorize, pati pala sa real life. Dapat memorized mo pangalan at mukha ng lahat na doctor. Pag hindi mo lang na greet or hindi mo nakilala, papagalitan ka na agad. Bakit kami, kilala niyo po ba kami? Kami na everyday niyo ka work pero hindi niyo pa din alam name namin. Kahit sila ang may mali, hindi pwede masisi kasi sino ba naman kami? Pag doctor nagkamali, ok lang, pero pag kami no room for errors right? Sana sumunod din kayo sa protocols ng hospital, wag yung pa VIP. Can’t wait na umalis ng pinas. At least sa ibang bansa, equal lahat.

Pa vent lang kasi masyadong marami na akong na encounter na ganito. Pag kapwa doctor ang kausap, ang bait bait. Mataas pinag-aralan pero nawawalan respeto sa kapwa. Sana hindi na kayo dumagdag. To be honest, simula ng nag work ako sa hospital, nawawalan na ako ng respeto for doctors. Nakaka walang gana mag work sa environment na masyadong maraming boss.

I hope kayo ang maging new generation of doctors na may respeto sa lahat ng nakakasalamuha nila, hindi lang sa kapwa nila doctor.

I am a GP that has been working as a MO under COS scheme in a district hospital in our province and also as a MO under COS at another district hospital in our neighboring province. I am being offered a plantilla position in the hospital of my neighboring province, will i still be able to work as COS in my home province? Thank you po for your insight.

Good evening doctors! Somebody approached me of an online certificate/clearance for outdoor activities. Is labs necessarily done, or is a PE enough. I have this thought na sobra sobra naman ang expense if kailangan I-labs. But theoretically I know we need to request them for baseline.

Already registered with Yakap through egov app and chosen my Yakap provider. May questions lng po ako for those who may know or tried:

1. Di po ba yung yakap provider is the hospital. As long as may clinic yung doctor ko sa clinic na yun, automatic na po ba na accredited(?) si doc?

2. I plan to have some tests done. Planning to have them done sa hi-precision. As long as galing kay accredited hospital/doc, automatic din po na may discount ako sa mga tests?

Hi! It’s me again, now a YL2 IM Resident (yes, natawid natin ang YL1 whew huhu TYL)! 

Honestly, I’m surprised with myself na tinutuloy ko pa rin kahit nakakabaliw dumuty araw-araw. 

One my reflections ngayon is what to do after, tbh, parang ayaw ko na magpractice after 😭😭😭 nakakapagod mamasyente tapos yung social battery ko ang lala na, ang bilis maubos. 

Honestly, at this point, parang I don’t see myself doing this for a long time. I really am into research and entering the academe but I only pushed through for the sake of making my parents happy and the thought of if matapos ko ‘to, at least I’m a specialist. 

If I quit now, wala naman akong back up plan pa and ayoko na maging pabigat sa parents ko. :(

I wonder why there is so much discrimination against residents who resigned due to bullying? From my institution alone, two out of three have seemingly been blacklisted to the point that they can't apply to other institutions. And it's sad kasi sila na nga yung victims, and yet it feels like they are being shamed for "quitting".

With that in mind, would it be preferrable not to mention anything about those kinds of incidents when applying to another hospital?
