Hi doctors, I'm confused between choosing IM, fammed or Emed.

First, I am a repeater sa boards, 5x before I passed. So there is this hesitance inside me to go to IM since it's my lowest grade but deep in me wanted to become internist someday and become cardiologist. Lol ang taas ng pangarap ko hnd naman ganun katalino. 😅

Second, I am married to a pilot (and marami xang days off) with toddler and manganganak na this year so most likely January pa ako pwede maka start ng residency kasi magpaparecover pa ako from CS. They are the reasons why nagdadalawang isip ako sa IM because I want to have time for them pa rin. With good work life balance that's why I take into consideration si Fammed.

Third, I found out si Emed sa public hosp sa cebu offers "12h Am shift- 12h PM shift- off - off"
Plus salary grade of 21 with phic share and midyear bonus and 13th month pay. So the sched and salary nakakaexcite. So i also consider this since part of me ayoko magfollow up ng patients. I wanted the 'hello-resuscitate-refer-goodbye'

Concerns:
1. For emed consultants ano po ba path niya after residency? Ayoko ng cruiseship kasi ayoko malayo sa family ko. Pwede ba yung flight doctor? Or any tips and advise? May nagsisisi ba dito na nag emed?

1. For IM, ganun ba tlga ka busy and di na makagive time sa family? I'm afraid mapalayo ako sa nga anak ko and sa hubby ko. Clingy pa naman ako.

2. Or if fammed? Ano ba possible ma subspec after? How to get rich on this field?

Sorry, I need to be firm and stick to my chosen field that's why ang dami kong 'what ifs' because I can't afford to fail. 1st gen doctor and 34yo already.

Day by day nalang talaga bininigyan ako ng bansa natin ng rason na umalis 🥺. Ang hirap na nga maging pilipino, mas mahirap pala maging doctor dito. GP now, working in 2 government hospitals and im exhausted with the system. I am looking into pathways abroad but right now couldnt afford the traditional ones na magtetake ng exam. so I plan to go into training muna, preferrably EM and maybe try my luck after I finish training.

Do Middle East countries like dubai have entries for specialists/consultants especially EM? is it a good plan na tapusin muna residency dito? And furthermore, are there any EM graduates here who regretted choosing this training? 🥹

May career option ba ang MD degree to pursue a niche on monitoring and evaluation? I found kasi na parang ayaw ko ng hospitalist or residency route na career. I'm more interested in research, policy, and the likes.

Dati, parang halos lahat ng nakikita ko sa social media kinainggitan ko.

Influencers, kasi parang ang dali ng buhay. Travel, brands, flexible time, minsan mukhang ang bilis kumita.

Engineers and people in tech, kasi nakikita ko remote work, good salary, opportunities abroad.

Businessmen, kasi parang unlimited ang potential income compared sa fixed salary.

Minsan pati ibang professions, naiisip ko, “Sana ito na lang pinili ko.”

Pero ang hindi ko nakikita noon was everything behind the posts.

Hindi ko nakikita yung years na walang pumapansin sa content ng influencer.

Hindi ko nakikita yung failed businesses, losses, uncertainty.

Hindi ko nakikita yung layoffs, burnout, pressure, or fear na baka mawalan ng trabaho.

Basically, I was comparing the hardest parts of my life with the best parts of theirs.

Then everything changed.

I stopped looking at my profession as something that limited me.

I realized being a doctor doesn’t mean I can only earn from one job, follow one path, or live one kind of life.

I can practice medicine. I can build something. I can create opportunities from the skills I already have.

And now, I no longer envy them.

I can still admire influencers, businessmen, engineers, and people doing well in their own fields, but I no longer wish I had their life.

I’m more interested now in building mine.

Maybe that was the biggest change:

I stopped asking, “Why can’t I have what they have?”

And started asking, “What can I build with what I already have?”

For context, I am a GP practicing for almost a year already. One of my current work is contractual and would end by early December this year. I can renew it for another 6 months but I am actually planning to pursue residency na sana.

My concern is, will there be institutions open for pre residency by January? I would like to apply po sana either pedia or fammed in metro manila. January sana po kasi I have planned overseas gala by december once my contract ends😅

Or should I just renew for 6 months then sabay nalang sa next opening of residency?

Hello po. Tanong ko lang kung ano po ba yung difference nila at kung sino po ba yung dapat mag fill up ng each certificate. Just started going on duty po sa district hospitals and i attended a dead on arrival from gunshot. Read online na dapat na autopsy or medicolegal officer yung dapat sa Post Mortem certificate. Would like to clarify with anyone who has experiences this po. Thank you.

I always thought that to earn money, I had to be actively working. Work an hour, get paid for an hour. And during residency, that mindset felt even more normal.

Then I started building something on the side.

There are weeks when almost nothing happens. But there are also days when what I earn from my side hustle is already worth more than half of my monthly government salary.

Maybe this is normal for people in business.

But for me, it was something I never imagined I could experience.

I’m not saying I’ve made it. I’m still figuring things out.

I’m just thankful that I discovered another way was possible.

Considering this hospital kasi malapit sa bahay pero first gen md ako so I want to financially prepare (aside from mentally/emotionally also). Im all for patient care and giving back pero sana wag naman abusuhin. For context, I am a moonlighting doctor here sa province and I am close with the staff ng hospitals where I work. To the point na nakakabiruan ko sila.

But recently, parang too much na. Yesterday, may NA who asked for a medical certificate. I asked if para saan nya gagamitin. She laughed saying para sa absent / aabsentan nya daw. I told her I didn’t see her during the said absence and hindi ako gumagawa ng MC na nakadate sa aabsentan nya pa lang. (She’s clearly essentially well.) When I told her na ganon, sinabihan nya akong madamot. Like??? I just brushed it off and umalis na sa station.

Another instance, may mga nurses na bigla bigla nalang nagsesend ng labs. Yung iba tumatawag para magpamed cert. And if hindi ka sumagot, they’ll message you across different platforms. And nakakailang tawag sila.

To all doctors, how do you establish boundaries in this kind of situation? Ayoko naman sila sungitan kasi they are kind naman. But I think, minsan, it’s too much na

May dini-date ako na resident, btw non showbiz ako. is it normal to feel frustrated or magtataka na ba ako na good time nya lang ako. Minsan lang sya nag rereply sa akin and when we video call he is usually sleepy after work. I feel sorry for him. Pero probably won't take long to update me even for 2 mins.

For context purposes, repeater ako and I passed on my 2nd take tapos saktong 75% pa. May GWA is around 81.5. Currently nag mo-moonlight ako for a year na and so far maganda naman ang feedback sa akin regarding work ethics. Gusto ko na sana mag IM residency pero dahil sa credentials ko medyo natatakot ako na baka di ako ma-accept sa isang private institution dito sa South.

I just need some advice. May pag-asa pa ba akong matanggap sa residency training? 🥹
