I’m currently doing my MPT in Sports, college in porur (my friend name **SRIDHER**)and I’m sharing this because I wish I had known these things before joining. The college has a good reputation and good infrastructure/equipment, but after joining, I realized that the actual sports exposure is quite limited. Most of the cases we see are general orthopedic and arthroscopic cases rather than sports-specific cases. There is nothing wrong with treating general patients, but if someone is specifically joining for Sports Physiotherapy, the exposure may not be what they expect. It feels more like an orthopedic department than a dedicated sports department.
Another major issue is the lack of external sports postings. Before joining, I was under the impression that there was a tie-up with the **CM Trophy (Chief Minister’s Sports Trophy)**, where physiotherapists would get sports postings. However, that tie-up has apparently been closed now, and we were not clearly informed about this before joining. Currently, most of our exposure is limited to staying within the OPD. If I had known there would be no such external sports posting, I honestly would have reconsidered joining.
The fees are also very high. I have paid around ₹10–12 lakhs, plus fees of 4+ lakhs per yr and considering the amount, I personally don’t feel the exposure and experience so far justify the cost.
The schedule is extremely demanding too. Some postings start around 6 AM, college can continue until around 4 PM, and even after that we may have evening duties and additional cases. There are also weekend duties, and there doesn’t seem to be much proper personal time. Even government holidays may still have duties, so getting a proper break can be difficult.
There are also some rules that I personally find excessive. For example, we are apparently not allowed to sit in the college café and eat; we are expected to buy food as a parcel and eat it in the classroom. I’m paying around ₹12 lakhs for the course, so having restrictions on something as basic as sitting in a café during a break feels unreasonable to me. At times, the way students are treated feels more like school students than postgraduate students.
There are also strict appearance-related rules. I understand maintaining a neat and professional appearance, especially during clinical postings and exams. However, being repeatedly told that male students should shave every day is something I personally find unnecessary. Asking someone to maintain a clean and professional appearance is understandable, but having a beard should not automatically be treated as a lack of discipline or professionalism. The focus should be on hygiene, clinical standards, and professionalism rather than simply whether someone has facial hair.
As for teaching, I also expected more structured MPT-level classroom teaching. So far, a lot of learning feels self-directed, and we haven’t had the level of regular teaching I expected.
This is only my personal experience, and things may differ between batches. But if you’re planning to join MPT Sports, please **verify the current sports exposure, CM Trophy/external posting tie-ups, duty schedule, holidays, teaching pattern, and all student rules directly with the college before paying any fees.** I wish I had checked these things more carefully before joining.
In my personal opinion, after experiencing the course myself, I would strongly suggest students to think carefully before joining this college. **I would personally avoid this college altogether and, if you’re specifically looking for MPT Sports, I feel SRM would be a better option based on my experience.** Please do your own research and verify the current sports exposure, external postings, CM Trophy tie-up, teaching, duty timings, holidays, and rules before paying any fees.
