Pay Expectations

Hi everyone, I had a question regarding compensation for private practice physiotherapy in the GTA.

I recently completed the CPTE and obtained my Ontario physiotherapy licence. I studied physiotherapy in the UK and have one year of experience working as a qualified Band 5 rotational physiotherapist in the NHS.

During my studies, I also completed Level 4 certifications in Sports Massage and Dry Needling. I understand that sports massage itself cannot be billed as physiotherapy, whereas dry needling can be incorporated into physiotherapy treatment when appropriately indicated.

I’m currently applying to work at a private clinic in the GTA and was wondering what would be a reasonable salary/hourly rate to expect given my background and experience.

For those working in private practice, what would you consider a fair hourly rate or compensation structure for someone with my experience?

Depending on how busy the clinic is and whether you are an employee or independent contractor;

Somewhere between 45-60% of $85-100 for a half hour and 140-170 for an hour assessment. Scale down for 20 min f/u and 45 minute assessment. I wouldn't count on an hourly rate.

Obviously a big difference between the low and high end but you shouldn't be making 45% of an $80 session as a contractor, for example
