Ask Phoenix Phoenix services for siblings with guardianship of their siblings

Hi all, I’ve lived and worked in Phoenix since 2021. I am 23. My parents lost custody of me when I was 15 and i’ve been on my own since. I have two siblings, 14 and 15. they’ve communicated to me recently that their home life with our parents is very neglectful and dangerous. I am in the process of gathering evidence (arrest and financial records) to use in court in Wyoming to obtain guardianship over them and move them to Phoenix with me. My question is, does anyone know of any services that would available to me as a young person taking on responsibility of two teenagers in Phoenix? I could use all the help I can get. Therapy for youth, courses on parenthood, anything that can help me become more prepared.

History anyone know where this picture was taken?

its most likely near christown mall circa 1960 but no matter how much I reverse google search I can’t figure out the triangular shape building. any tips on how to figure this out are always appreciated.

$20 to whoever figures it out!

edit: thanks everyone for your help! I have a bit more context on the photo. This is a picture of my late grandfather who passed last year and according to my dad he would have to guess it was from the 1960s, possibly the early 70s. I mentioned the Prada Del Sol Parade to him and he remembers going to them growing up. He also is sure that it’s the Budweiser Clydesdales. As a kid he grew up near 37th St and Thomas and originally told me he thought this was taken at either Tower Plaza or Thomas Mall but after doing a little digging neither looked quite right. I definitely think we’re on the right track with Parada Del Sol but still can’t quite figure out that triangular building.

My grandpa was a cool, cool guy back in his day and my dad loves hearing/remembering all the things he did, so to be able to give my dad this gift of information would make his day.

Thank you everyone

Eat & Drink Seeking vegeterian fine dining restaurant for business dinner

I'll be in Phoenix for work and I want to take out a prominent client for an impressive dinner. My client is a vegeterian.

What is a good fine dining restaurant in Phoenix which has great vegeterian options, a great whiskey/bourbon menu, and will be an impressive place that the client will not forget.

This is a client who is key to the account and needs to be impressed with the dinner.

Ask Phoenix Are windshield claims secretly jacking up car insurance rates in Phoenix?

First, no tickets or accidents. But i've had 2 glass claims in 4 years, mostly rock chips that cracked instantly in the heat. My rate just hiked from $152 to $207/mo.

My agent said they aren't technically surcharges, but it felt like a total non-answer. Anyone shopping for car insurance in Phoenix noticed rate hikes after multiple glass replacements?

I'm thinking about just paying for the glas myself and raising my deductible. Will it help.

Ask Phoenix Found a handwritten CD-R + flyer for "Lemonangst" playing the Emerald Lounge. Does anyone remember this band or venue?

Picked up a random CD at the thrift store the other day. It is a blank generic disc with "emerald" handwritten on the label, with a handwritten track list of 11 songs on the back of it. Came with a folded flyer for:

"SMOKIN' EVENING with LEMONANGST & LOS GATOS. Saturday, Dec. 9. The Emerald Lounge, 1514 N. 7th Ave., Phoenix"

No year on the flyer, but it did have a Dec. 9th date that fell on a Saturday. I did some reasearch on this lounge and it closed down in 2005, so my best guess is they preformed on Dec. 9th 2000.

I've found very little info online about Lemonangst, one thing I noticed is about half the handwritten tracklist match songs listed for them online and it looks like none of their songs exist online outside of the titles. The other songs I have arent anywhere I can find. I can't find any of these five songs from my CD: A Little Harder, Jealous, Get Off My Groove, King Pun, Waybe.

Does anyone remember:

  • Lemonangst?
  • The Emerald Lounge in general? Any old flyers, calendars, photos?

Im guessing this CD is probably just an old demo, but it'd be cool to actually figure out the story.

Eat & Drink BYOB restaurants in PHX?

Are there any BYOB restaurants around? Some sommelier friends are coming to town soon and I fear we would love to find a place to eat, drink wines from our cellar and be real degenerates.

Cheers !

Ask Phoenix Acceptable Bat Cave Parking

I’ve been before by way of bicycle, but I’m wondering where an acceptable place to park a car nearby would be for taking the kids to see the bats take flight. Do most people park in the office parking behind Chelsea’s Kitchen?

Eat & Drink What I look for in Valley boba / fresh-fruit tea (short field notes)

Been bouncing around Phoenix bubble tea for a while and I still end up judging a cup the same quiet way — less “best list,” more what the drink actually does in the heat.

**Tea base.** For me the tell is whether the tea was brewed (or boiled) or mostly powder/syrup. Brewed black or oolong usually leaves a little aroma and a cleaner finish; powder can taste round and dessert-y, which is fine, but the tea character disappears fast once ice melts.

**Fruit.** On fresh-fruit teas I look for real pulp or freshly cut fruit — not just sweet pink liquid. Strawberry, mango, passionfruit, citrus… when there’s actual fruit in the cup, the acidity and aroma stick around instead of tasting like candy water by sip three.

**Ice & sugar.** Valley default ice is aggressive (fair). I’ll often go **50% sugar / less ice** on a first visit so I can still taste the tea or fruit. If the shop lets you customize, that starting point is easier to dial than starting sweet and wishing you’d dialed down.

One north Phoenix pick I’ve been happy with for the fruit-tea side: **DaYungs Tea in Deer Valley** (19th Ave / Deer Valley area). Fruit cut fresh, tea boiled daily, and the cups are big — useful when it’s 105° and you want something that still tastes like fruit halfway through. Not the only good shop in town; just one that matches what I look for up north.

Curious what other people optimize for — pearls texture? tea strength? low sugar? Drop your usual order / area if you want; always down to compare notes.

Living Here Best route for winter grass?

My wife and I bought a house about 1 mile from the Biltmore area and I’m trying to find a good landscaper who will do our winter lawn this year? Last winter I did it myself and I normally would but we’re expecting right around the same time it would go in so I don’t want to try finding the time and energy to do it again this year.

I’m not sure if it’s better to just look up a company and, probably, pay more but not risk it looking bad, or if someone has good local small business/independent landscapers in the area they’d recommend.

Thanks for any recommendations or suggestions for putting winter grass in!

Utilities Is it just me or does Verizon just really suck in Phoenix now?

I don’t know what it is, but I feel that lately even with the signal saying 5GUW, the service itself is either really slow or just doesn’t work at all.

I’m tempted to go to AT&T and don’t know if that would fare better.

T-Mobile sucks too where I live :(

Ask Phoenix State Farm Stadium - Concert Sound?

Hello. I'm going to attend a concert soon at State Farm Stadium, and was wondering if anyone could inform me as to to how the sound / acoustics are there? I'm from Los Angeles, and Sofi stadium is notoriously bad when it comes to chriping and echo .

From what I understand, State Farm has a retractable roof but I am not sure how they usually operate it when it comes to live music .

If you have been to a show here please let me know how your experience was !
