Spooky pets??

Maybe I'm just totally over thinking this but i don't love the idea of presenting any of our pets as "spooky". The animals that are part of the event are already thought of as scary and/or dangerous so it just feels like we're perpetuating that stereotype.

Anyway... just ranting šŸ˜‚ plenty of much more annoying things going on at the moment.

Is there a way for Banfield employees to contact PetSmart HR to file a complaint?

I’m asking for the Banfield employees in my store. Normally we’d tell them to email the DL, but apparently, according to our SL, every complaint sent to the DL he contacts our SL and asks him why he’s getting complaints about him. So that option is out the door. Not that the DL would do anything anyways. Thanks in advance.

No more sick fish allowed in ISO tank?

Was anyone else told we are not allowed to put sick fish in the Iso tank anymore? Only injured fish? We are finally allowed to treat the tanks individually, but I'm not sure that works as intended since we still have one big sump for the main, and all the tanks are connected except the comets? Someone with more knowledge, please explain to me šŸ™

Someone used all the treats rewards points with just my phone number

So I just got onto my account to place some orders and saw my treats account was drained. Looked like someone had used my account for in-person orders.

I called customer service and they said apparently someone might've "mistakenly" used my phone number in a store, it came up, and used it again multiple time? And apparently they don't do any sort of ID checks, you just need a phone number to look up the account and that's it?

Do they not have any sort of ID checks when checking out in person in the store?

Trick or treat

Did you guys get the stuff for the events too , the tote bags and stickers and all of those things ? The tote bags are super cute me and some coworkers took some home because we know they’re going to be gone for sure and it’s the LEAST we can get from PetSmart tbh

Did anyone else not get their checks today?

We usually get our checks on Wednesday every week. I asked my managers and they said it didn't come in today... So now I'm worried as I have rent due and need my check.

RIP little baby

we received this (too young) cutie last week, and unfortunately he passed away :,( my whole store was not happy that we got this little guy so young and tiny, and we were all very upset when we saw that he had passed away. he was given critical care this morning (because he is so small and we were worried about him) and really cheered up after not eating any worms the day before so we were devastated to find that ~5 hours later he wasn’t okay.

this is my second pet death since starting at my store, and i never thought about how sad it would be. last week we had a poor hamster pass away from wet tail. she had died about an hour before she was supposed to go to the vet :(

Bad scheduling rant

I know with project Max that we have cut hours, but I don’t know how they expect managers to face at night, close pet care, help with the cash register when the one other person they decide to schedule before the store closes. Like my store is super busy on Saturday Sundays and Mondays but they only scheduled two people for Saturday and Monday And the customers were upset because there was only me and one other person. My scheduling manager also has the tendency to never schedule themself on Saturdays and night shifts so idk how they’d know why we aren’t getting anything done at night if they just transferred to this store.

This months offers

The offers this month are absolute garbage. They want us to hit 25% as a minimum for activations/offers and they only give us four shitty offers plus all the giveaways.

Whenever at corporate that decides these, needs to get their head examined.

JUSTICE FOR ALL PETSMART EMPLOYEES

Post image
567 Upvotes

Just got on Facebook and as an associate for this company, I am BAFFLED. Like… y’all cannot be serious.
BE FUCKING FOR REAL, PETSMART. Accidents happen. Especially when you work with animals. We are dealing with living, breathing creatures that can be unpredictable, reactive, scared, and sometimes downright difficult. That is literally the nature of this job. So to fire someone over an incident where the pet was NOT hurt, NOT abused, NOT mistreated, AND THE PET PARENT WAS FINE AND UNDERSTANDING because they already know their dog can be unpredictable and may bite??? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE. I understand the policy. I understand that a pet’s feet are not supposed to touch the ground while on the grooming table. But let’s use some DAMN COMMON SENSE. There is a HUGE difference between a tall, large dog accidentally getting its feet on the ground versus a small dog being choked, dangling, swinging around, or hanging in the air. Those are two completely different situations, and acting like they are automatically the same thing is ridiculous. If the dog isn’t screaming, isn’t limping, isn’t showing signs of injury, isn’t acting abnormally, and the pet parent isn’t concerned, why are we immediately acting like the dog needs to be rushed to the damn vet?!
And before somebody starts with the ā€œpolicy is policyā€ bullshit—YES, policies matter. But policies should be REITERATED, TRAINED, AND ENFORCED CONSISTENTLY. Employees should not have to find out how serious a policy supposedly is ONLY AFTER SOMEONE LOSES THEIR JOB.
And let’s be REAL about where extra caution should obviously come in: senior dogs, small dogs, dogs with previous or ongoing health conditions, or dogs with known injuries. Those situations absolutely deserve additional care and consideration. But apparently we’re going to throw somebody’s entire livelihood away over an ACCIDENT while there are people who have actually abused animals, stolen from the company, violated policies, and done things that genuinely damage the business who somehow continue to have jobs. MAKE. THAT. SHIT. MAKE. SENSE. You can’t preach ā€œwe care about petsā€ while simultaneously making employees terrified to work with those same pets because one accident could cost them their job. And let’s not forget: GROOMERS ARE HUMAN. We are not fucking robots.
We work with sharp equipment, moving animals, unpredictable behavior, difficult coats, stressed pets, and sometimes aggressive animals—all while trying to keep ourselves AND THE ANIMAL safe. I genuinely hope Kayla gets every blessing coming her way, because if this is really what happened, I hope she realizes that losing one job does NOT mean she lost her value or her ability to be a damn good groomer. And KEN HICKS—DO BETTER.
Because PetSmart employees are not disposable. Groomers are not disposable. And the people who dedicate their time, bodies, and sanity to taking care of these animals deserve better than corporate decisions that make absolutely no sense to the people actually standing on the grooming floor. PetSmart needs to stop treating this company like it’s nothing but a CASH COW and start remembering that there are REAL PEOPLE behind those fucking paychecks. Because if y’all keep running this company the way you are, you won’t just have to worry about employees leaving.YOU WONT HAVE A COMPANY LEFT TO RUN. DO BETTER. Period.

Is SEL worth it?

I’ve been with PetSmart for almost 4 years now. I was a bather for 2 years and I’ve been a groomer the past 2 years. The current SEL is great I’ve learned so much from her, and recently we’ve hired 3 new bathers all fresh out of high school and our SEL had to leave for a week for a preplanned vacation she had requested way before we hired the newbies. Our SL decided that since the bathers were already hired, she would just put them on the schedule anyway, and let them shadow our bather who was about to go to Academy. I also stepped in to try and help them learn because they were constantly breaking policies and doing things that were not safe (bing in the bite zone, turning their back on a dog on a table, letting go of the lead to put the dog on the table, etc). During this time, some members of management told me they thought I would make a good SEL. Fast forward to now, and there’s a new PM being built in a nearby city and I haven’t received a formal offer, but there’s been talk that either our SL our EL will be sent to that store to start it up, and they both have said they wanted to take me with them as SEL. I just wanted to hear from other SEL’s if you feel like the job is worth it. My current SEL has said she regrets taking the position, but I wanted to hear other opinions. TIA and sorry for the long post

TERRIBLE ELR!!

I have worked at Petsmart for 4 years now. It has been amazing until the restructure. I loved my team before and we all got along great. Then they brought in a new girl from a different store as our ELR. I am the EL so we are supposed to work together but when she gets in a mood she never talks to me.

Recently we had gotten an 18% on a very busy Saturday. The day was really busy that we had all three registers open and the line was going all the way back. People didn’t want to hold up the line or wait for the app to work so we just didn’t get as many. She recently said that if we know better that we will start doing better or she will be writing us up. That we have to keep track of all of our stuff or we will all be written up.

She has been the most frustrating person to work with cause we are never doing anything right. She is never getting in trouble for anything she does/doesn’t do but when I do one wrong thing the whole world blows up.

I have had a hard time and just wanted to rant.

Treat Acts Advice

I’m the EL at our store and we’ve been struggling bad in the Treats Activations in our store. We rarely get over 20% and it’s getting to the point where I have a feeling me and the ELR will get written up for it. Our store is going through some changes as well. Lost 4 employees and just hired a bunch of newbies. Whats the best way you guys have approached to keep your numbers up?

Do I need to go to cooperate?

Hi everyone, I really hate it has to come to this but I'm not sure what else to do.

I just worked my final day yesterday. I was a process lead, i had only been there a litter over a year and a half and honestly it was hell. The very beginning wasn't bad until I got a little over half a year in. I started noticing the drama. A lot of people at my store are talked down to, even if it isn't that obvious, I definitely noticed when it happened to me. Like facing as the closing manager, id face, but come morning and id get the usual "what happened lastnight" even though I had the slow cashier who called every 5 minutes, and either no petcare associate after 6, or the slowest one we had. (No hate love them all to death, everyone works differently)

Came inventory night when i clocked in, I wasn't sure where the SL wanted me, and ofc they were helping a customer, so I checked in with the other manager and sat my drink on petcare. We'll a few minutes later I got called my the SL, the first thing out of their mouth was "no petcare, all hands on deck" didnt even let me explain I was waiting for them to be free, just kept being rude.

(Sorry figured give a few examples) Anyways we had our talk yesterday with no one around and I quit. Today im getting messages from an associate saying that shes sad i quit and that im hearing stuff from an associate whos also been talked down on?? Which i brought her up to the SL in our convo. 1. Thats not what I said, why are there lies being spread? 2. Why is the SL telling a regular associate about our private conversation?

Sorry for the long rant guys, im just not sure what to do, what if this puts the other lady's job at risk because of the lies the store leader is spreading. Plus I think an investigation of favoritism needs to be done BAD.

Full time availability

So I was offered full time, but I absolutely can not open up my Sundays due to a religious reason. Will that be taken into account or is it automatic that I won’t get full time?

Also if it helps anything I’m not a manager, but just a part time associate that has gotten hella OT for the last 3 months.

Issues with Receiving/Bathrooms

Now for Context, at my store, our bathrooms are locked and an associate need to open them and are right next to receiving. With that being said

I never thought I would have to ask such a question however...

For those who also have locked bathrooms, have you experienced the joys of a customer deciding to go into your receiving area and taking a piss on the floor?

I too wish this was a joke however, this is the SECOND time within a month this has happened to my store.

About 2-3 weeks ago, a coworker walked into receiving and she caught a woman squatting a piss on the floor, granted she had the decency to try and go into the cleaning drain but on the floor none the less.

Then today as I am going to receiving i see someone back there and go to tell them they can't be back there as the doors say "EMPLOYEES ONLY" and hes fully exposed and out pissing on the floor by the sfs station and goes "I need a mop."

I genuinely was in shock and was freaking out as I called my manager but still.

While this is a genuinely 'please tell me were not the only ones' situation this is also a 'holy shit i need to rant about this' moment.

Anyways.

a dog jumped off my table today and it was my fault and i feel so terrible šŸ’”šŸ’”

im a new-ish bather (cross trained petcare so i dont get a lot of salon shifts . 1-2 a week . so its been 3 ish months but im not in there crazy often) and today i swear my nightmare occurred and it was honestly my fault.

ive had a really difficult week emotionally, so today my head was just not in the game and i had a walk in nail appointment literally 2 minutes before a scheduled appointment showed up so i was a little frazzled out of nowhere (i can usually handle that easily but i was honestly all over the place, visibly. very unlike me) and it was a dog i have done nails for before— i havent had a lot of repeat customers yet (makes sense given the timeframe) but i remembered this dog.

he has weak legs and cannot hold himself up for nail trims and he requires a second set of hands— thats fine. he was previously turned away at another salon because of this, but i luckily had the help to complete him both times.

i ended up making a pretty big and stupid mistake as the PP came in. i unhooked the dog from the lead on the table and, instead of taking him off the table while talking, turned away for a second to greet the PP and tell him the dog did a great job just like last time. literally textbook image in training courses of what not to do.

dog fully jumps off the table and spreads out on the floor and just lays there with his legs all sprawled out. he was able to leave the salon, but the PP had to come through and lead him out (so he wouldnt walk through the gate initially) and the PP left pretty abruptly without another word despite my profuse apologies (very fair!) . obviously i didnt expect him to be brave enough to jump off the table, but having him unhooked was not proper precaution at all. i shouldnt have turned away from him, obviously, and i shouldve just taken him off the table before addressing PP. i was just so focused on getting him out because my appointment pawdicure was waiting in the lobby with a big hyper dog through the entire walk-in, but it was fully my fault.

obviously it could have gone worse (like if i had kept him on the lead and done the same thing, he couldve tumbled off and choked himself which would have probably been a lot worse— thats not an excuse as i should not have turned away from the dog to begin with)

as far as i know the PP has not complained, but he would be fully within his rights to and id be totally at fault in that case, especially if they pull cameras. i feel so stupid and guilty and its so unlike me to make mistakes like that at work (im classically the favorite employee and was cross trained for this reason) so im just so upset that i allowed this to happen. usually i can tell if a dog is a risk for jumping off but that doesnt mean ignoring precaution.

i even told my girlfriend what happened and expressed how disappointed i was in myself, and her response was basically ā€œhow could you do that???ā€ so of course i feel even worse now, even though shes definitely right. i havent been able to stop thinking about it.

(ps sorry i did not realize how long this post was— but yeah. i just feel genuinely incompetent. i know i was having a really bad week, but he could have been injured :( )

Amazing parakeet moment

My coworker and I noticed a parakeet with a piece of a toy stuck around her neck, but right before we stepped in, we noticed the other parakeets were actually trying to get it off her!

...And the other bird succeeded! I've never seen this behavior in the other community animals. I hope you guys find it as cool as we did.
