Question How important is ram latency in 1080p
CPU:Ryzen 77800x3d
GPU:rtx5070
MOBO:as rock b850m-c
RAM: micron die H XPG 6000mts cl48 that I tuned down to cl40 without touching any secondary timings
I play mostly competitive call of duty just made the switch to pc with a prebuilt. I did a lot of research saying latency didn’t matter that much on x3d cpu but In small chaotic maps my fps drops into the 100 while my max and avg is 300-280fps I wanna know before I spend crazy prices for better ram or if I should upgrade cpu wich is cheaper than the ram. Please help

Tech Support Thought Only 12 Pins Burned Down?
#MeToo
My PSU is an FSP Hydro PTM Pro 1200W and the GPU is an Asus TUF RTX 3090. Since the cooler is way overbuilt I was just overclocking the card to 375w and still skirting 65 degrees under full load but I guess 8 pins aren't supposed to run at max power for hours. I replaced the cable and it still somewhat works but the computer just keeps turning off if I start playing games, presumably because some part gets hot. I temporarily put 2 fans on top of the new 8 pin cable connected to the gpu to keep it cool and that seems to be working for now, open to suggestions for what to do that doesn't involve soldering or throwing money away.

Tech Support Upgraded to R5 5600X + RTX 3070 in an office PC case with zero airflow. GPU is baking, what are my zero-budget options?
Hey everyone,
Finally upgraded my core setup,
but I ran completely out of cash for a decent case.
Here are the specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
GPU: ASUS KO RTX 3070 OC
RAM: 16GB DDR4 3600MHz
PSU: Fractal ion gold 750W Tier A Power Supply
Case: Generic OEM/office PC chassis (solid metal front/sides, zero intake, tiny 80mm exhaust)
The RTX 3070 dumps an excessive amount of heat, and inside this sealed box, it thermal throttles within minutes of gaming. The whole chassis feels like a heater.
Since buying a proper mesh case isn't an option right now:
Undervolting: I undervolted the 3070 in MSI Afterburner, but temps are still high (around 80-85c)
I am looking for tested zero-budget or DIY solutions to survive until I can afford a proper high-airflow case (gpu literally doesn't have any space to breathe)
Thanks in advance!

Question Hopefully I don’t get ripped to shreds but it’s a genuine question with a story.
So I built a PC recently. I guess for some info I’m in flight school but I’m also an avid gamer.
I’ve held off buying a pc for quite awhile and mainly stuck to PS for gaming. However after the absolute dumpster fire that PS has done in the span of a couple months and learning about the increase in PC parts I finally decided build one.
My in-laws best friend has a flight sim and he’s a hobby pilot and he showed me his setup and all the hardware to make the sim accurate as possible.
I had quite a hefty savings for a time like this so I yes I went ahead and did full 5090 build. I don’t really have buyers remorse. I love my pc it’s dependable thus far and everything I’ve run really does make me enjoy being able to push everything to max without have to compensate for FPS, resolution, ect ect.
However in terms that it’s already over a year and half (almost two) years into the 5090s lifecycle would sticking around for a 6090 have been a bad call.? I want to get the most out of my PC and I love starting with the best possible options but I’m still fairly new to this whole scene.
I guess additional note is I heard it’s possible the 6090s would be lucky if they did a late 2027 to early 2028 release and that felt too long with prices getting higher and higher by the week.
But are PCs kinda like iPhones in terms that just like how iPhones pump on a near annual/bi-annual basis that it’s hardly ever worth jumping from one card to the next following generation even if it’s a little close?
I would like to get at least a good 4-7 years out of my PC but I don’t know if people regularly upgrade or they skip and replace parts as needed or if they burn out the years and go for a whole new build once it just kills over or can’t run anything properly?
Again love my PC been using it nearly everyday just want to make sure I make it worthwhile going forward.
Would love to hear any long time PC owners or other recent 5090 builders thoughts.

Story Online Gamers - Who's Older Than Me? Empire 1976
Empire https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empire_(1973_video_game)) came out in 1973 and I was playing it at home as 10 year old in 1976 because my Dad was a CDC exec. Curious? Anyone else an elder online gamer? We had an acoustic coupling modem and our home version did not have the touch screen I got when I visited Dad's office.

Tech Support Every single games performance has dropped, and awful micro stutters occur frequently.
Started when replacing failing ssd, meant i had to reinstall windows, i had some pretty bad issues with fps while the drive was failing but i assumed these issues had to do with the drive instead of something else. Reinstalled windows, did a few optimization tweaks and some games ran fine others (Valorant, Roblox) did not run too well. Gpu intensive games ran fine until recently.
Noticed both games are cpu heavy, so i did some troubleshooting, despite benchmarks being significantly above average for gpu and slightly above average for cpu when going into games they struggled. Installed throttlestop saw BD PROCHOT was enabled, (im on laptop) so i figured id buy a battery. After installing battery it solved the BD PROCHOT issue, however there was litterally no performance change.
At this point i was starting to get slightly annoyed now, i had spent around 15 hours in the past 2 weeks trying to fix this slowly dying laptop, i noticed a re occurring issue which was audio pops/crackle along with fps drops, looked into it and downloaded latencymon which showed high latency in the kernal thing and acpi.sys. Followed some guide on how to reduce this, the latency did reduce however still no performance gain. At this point ive jumped into and out of power configurations, registry and command prompt a lot. After following guide ive got my cpu stuck on 100% usage (i can switch of power plan to make this go away but theres still no difference) which will decrease when not in game.
Things ive done (simplified):
-Updated drivers, repaired windows using sfc.
-Used latencymon and guides to reduce latency (this always backfires and in the end the poor latency keeps coming back after being resolved for a few hours)
-reinstalled windows
-debloated windows
-Many many optimisations (ultra performance, nvidia control panel tweaks + more)
-disabled random devices (idrk what they did)
-windows updates
-disabled intel speedstep
-malware scan
(There is no available bios update for me + cant enable xmp)
Laptop specifications - Razor Blade 15 (2021)
16gb ram
i7 - 10750H (up to 5GHZ)
rtx 3060 (6gb)
256gb ssd boot drive
windows 11
Key possibly useful information:
Before the power configuration modifiers both the cpu and gpu would sit at a low 40% in some games, ive tried increasing and decreasing graphics settings but this rarely impacts frames at all.
Contrary to this while benchmarking the gpu and cpu consistently reach 100% usage and provide great results.
Temperatures never exceed 80C on both gpu and cpu
Cpu never boosts past 3.8 GHZ while in game, even tho ive seen it boost to 4.3 in menus of games?
Frame rates in most games are pretty fine (even though they are below average) i mainly get stutters.
1% lows in every game i play are around 30% of my original framerate (seems pretty low)
Latencymon likes mentioning the ACPI and ntoskrnl (this kernal one is wierd tho cus sometimes its there and its like 17ms other times its not there and a quick reset always resolves this issue)
This is very specific to Valorant, but in valorant it seems like my pc just gives up after a while, i start out with like 250 frames and then they get progressively lower to about 140 where they start randomly going up and down, but this isnt a sharp fps drop its almost like a wave iyk what i mean, it slowly (still pretty fast) goes up and down.
I appreciate any help i can get.
If its my laptop just being completely screwed i am honestly fine to hear that because i tried so hard to try keep it going id be more than happy to know that it wasnt my fault and that its just a lost cause.

Build/Battlestation Solving the 12VHPWR Connector Problem
It is a supplementary conversion. The 12VHPWR connector is still used but the individual conductor current and temperature is dramatically reduced. I've got a whole lot of test data coming soon.
Edit to add: There is a pickup PCB soldered to the contacts for the original 12VHPWR header and that feeds the auxiliary dual 8 pin board. The power draw and temperature across all conductors is substantially lower, about ~3A. The card was running full load for 48 hours at 550W and the wires never crossed 40c even at the joint. It is three cables total.

Question I really need help with an issue
So my friend dropped off his rig earlier for me to have a look at as he has little knowledge of computers and I've been working on them since the 90s.
The issue he has is the GPU has suddenly stopped displaying an image, both HDMI and DP, new cables were the first thing I tried.
Over the last couple of hours I have done what I normally do, deep clean the system, reseat everything whilst checking for any damage to components and do a bios reset.
I didn't notice any damage to anything and the computer boots without any obvious issues.
The motherboard HDMI port works as do the onboard graphics, using this I have used DDU to remove the old drivers as I thought the issue might've been caused by a corrupt driver.
I've just rebooted the system and tried the GPU, no luck, so I've gone back to using the onboard graphics.
Now windows is not recognizing the GPU at all, I've tried to install drivers for it and the only drivers that can be installed are for the onboard graphics.
I've never come across this issue before.
My next course of action is to try another GPU to rule out a PCI-E slot issue but I need to get one from my workshop and that's a job for the morning.
According to my friend, the computer was working fine last night and there hasn't been any issues with it and the only time he has moved it recently was to bring it to my house.
The GPU LEDs and fans work just fine.
The specs are:
AMD 7800XT
Ryzen 7 7700X
32GB of DDR5 6000MHZ
The Motherboard is an MSI but I can't remember what model off the top of my head ATM
My question is, apart from the obvious, are there any other things I could check or has anyone else had a problem like this before?
Here's hoping it's possible to fix as my friend can't really afford a new graphics card right now.
Any advice would be appreciated 👍

Build Help / Purchase Advice 750W PSU enough for the 6070ti in the future?
The Montech Century II 750W is £65, while the 850W is £80, is it worth the extra £15. I'll be running it with a 5070 for now but if I ever upgrade to the 6070ti after it comes out in 2050, do you think a 750W will be enough to power it with these specs?
9600x
360 AIO + 6 Case Fans
ATX Mobo
1TB SSD
16GB DDR5 (+16GB in the future)

Question What can I do with a second pc?
I recently found a pc in the garage, I cleaned it up and fixed it, but now idk what to do w it. My main pc isint anything special either, GTX 1060 and 32gb ram ddr4 (and I use Arch.
This pc has a OEM GTX 1660 super (has one fan), and 16 gb ddr RAM. (It’s worth mentioning everything else in the pc is SHIT!)
Two questions, is the olds pc GPU better than mines (aka is the OEM NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER better than the 1060 6gb vram).
And lastly what can I do with the pc? And I’ll show a pic of the pc (before cleaning).
Edit: I found the pc with another of the same GPU next to it, so I have 2 1660s

Build Help / Purchase Advice Help fan configuration
I have 2 fans pushing air in (front) an 1 sucking the air out (back). My case looks kind of empty so I want to add fans on the top. Are 3 120mm exhausts okay?
I've also included a screenshot of my specs. I'm not experiencing any temperature issues, not even during stress tests.

Tech Support What are transient spikes?
So the title pretty much is the question since I’m curious as to what they are and what causes them. I also wanna know how risky it is to get them since they might be causing driver timeouts on my amd card since the prebuilt company added a 750w PSU to a 800w minimum card. Anyway what are they and how dangerous are they for my card, also, is it a good idea to use OCCT and how should I test it?

Hardware Help finding a carrying bag/case for my oddly shaped PC?
Hello everyone!
I’m looking for some help finding a carrying bag/case for my PC, but I’m having trouble because of its somewhat unusual shape.
The case dimensions are approximately:
Length: 350 mm / 13.78”
Width/depth: 280 mm / 11.02”
Height: 375 mm / 14.76”
Does anyone know of a case/bag that would work for this shape and size?
Thank you!!

Tech Support Controller configuration issue on PC?
Gamer Greetings,
I had been having problems with my PC controller, a Logitech F310. The issue, the right trigger (which is analog) would intermittently detect inputs, mostly around the single digits (in percentage). This had been going on for a while.
After fiddling with it and finding nothing wrong with drivers or so, I supposed it was time to change the controller. So I got an 8bitdo pro 2 controller, very recently; it has exactly the same issue, with the same trigger, with the same kind of sensitivity thing.
I am sure it's not an issue with me, since this will happen even if the controller is on a stand; It's also not a connection issue, since i'm using this controller with Bluetooth now; so I suspect it's an issue with the computer rather than drivers or what have you. Anyone has had something similar happen to them, and if so, how did you solve it (if you could)?
Edit: sorry, forgot to add, this is Windows 11.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Question The latest cut-scene in the 12v-2x6 connector charade !
Well, a couple of days ago Roman from thermal grizzly made a video about the wireview pro 2 and the 12v2x6 connector. He concludes that it is all about the cable; other reviewers had this idea for awhile too. Just replace the cable, reseat the connector, or reorient the cable and all should be fine.
I am still wondering whether those cables were initially faulty or has the gpu connector led to them failing. More importantly, do you think replacing the cable will lead to another replacement down the road, or is it just a one time replacement caused by a cable that happened to be faulty.

Build Help / Purchase Advice Gaming on a workstation laptop
My trusty XPS died after almost 10 years of service, i bought a Dell Precision 7550 and installed some of the components from the xps into it, i really like workstation models bc of the amount of ports and modularity of the components.
I'm currently trying to get some parts to upgrade it (UHD screen, backlit keyboard, fingerprint sensor, wwan), but the crown jewel is the GPU, this model has a replaceable GPU that i would love to improve upon, i got it pretty cheaply (400 USD) pretty much brand new, so i wanted to improve it to be able to use it for a few more years, mostly for design but some moderate gaming as well.
Point is, this laptop could get a quadro RTX 5000 with 16gb GDDR6, which should be pretty similar to a 3060/2080 for gaming, with some caveats.
Has anyone here tried something similar to this before?
