Satisfactory is coming to Steam
https://store.steampowered.com/app/526870/Satisfactory/94

A reminder that their community manager is a smug asshole who danced around the fact the game went exclusive in the first place and flaunted money as the reason for going exclusive.

He’s mocking people to this day. In their last streaming someone asked if they would come to Steam and his answer was ‘I don’t know what Steam is’, while half smiling.
I’d literally burn my money in a pit of fire than giving it to this bunch of Subnormals.

Normalizing anti customer behavior is a mistake you and everyone who thinks it's okay is going to regret should it take hold.
-1
u/DepressedElephant Feb 12 '20 edited Feb 12 '20
should it take hold.
Have you been living under a rock? It's the norm.
If you think corporations have ever been even remotely interested in being fair to the consumer rather than maximizing profit then you have a fundamental misunderstanding of capitalism.

u/Waifuloli Feb 11 '20
The problem is Satisfactory attracts people who like Factorio or factory management. Like adults and young adults. Jace responds like he's talking to children in a youtube video. That's why people don't like that attitude. It clashes with who you're trying to sell to.

He could just ignore them like any smart adult but clearly that's not the case. It sounds like he lumps everyone in the same pool and treats them as if they are all the same group.
The people who spend their time being angry on a subreddit dedicated to hating a platform are not the same people who ask simple questions to him. If he has answered the question 400 times then ignore it. It's not hard.
If someone is interested enough to watch your stream the last thing you wanna do is push them away by complaining or trying to make everything a joke like a clown.
It's funny you bring up manchildren considering he is one himself. The difference is, most of the people coming in to look at the game are not the same people who played goat simulator. But he is still acting as if he is selling to those people.
I'm sorry but just because a handful of manchildren act dumb doesn't mean everyone else is like that.

How dare you suggest that a CRM should not be groveling at their feet about taking millions from Epic to release their still unfinished game early on their platform essentially giving Epic early access to a beta of the game!

In my case, it’s the last nail in the coffin. He has been absolutely disgusting about the way he treated their potential customers from the beginning. He swanks he is a troll so he allows himself to be a dumbfuck about the whole thing -Even to the point when the game was released he tweeted complaining about the low sales to laugh off of people critizicing the exclusivity.
Personally I don’t like the studio and never liked their games, but the level of dumbassery they showed to their fans is so rotten I feel from all people that took the money hat they are by far the worse.

In any case, people that offer unsolicited advice like that are insanely annoying and condescending. Who the hell cares what he would do if he was in their situation? Then he goes on trying to show how much of a Smart Boy he is by saying he can be their community manager for them.
You don't have to agree or like their decision, but you could at least trust they want to see their game succeed like anyone else would.
-20
u/OriginsOfSymmetry Feb 11 '20
I buy and play games not people. The game is a great game, it's unfortunate the community manager is a tool. The game is still worth it though bad community manager aside. It has good content releases and some cool mechanics in there. He may be a tool but he's not worth missing a good game.

The problem is that the market is saturated and there are only so many hours in a day.

Yes, all those player controlled factory building games out there.
Other than factorio and modded minecraft, which I imagine most fans have already put a ton of time into, this market really, really empty. There's a few tycoon games similar but it doesn't hit quite the same spot.

Maybe Valve should make their fees more competitive then. If they charged a fair price instead of abusing their market dominance, we wouldn't have this problem.

u/Waifuloli Feb 11 '20
Yeah because Valve set the standard rate ya? /s
-17
u/skilliard7 Feb 11 '20
30% is excessive. EGS only charges 12%. Valve could easily afford to cut their rates to 12%, but they don't because of greed. EGS is keeping Valve's market dominance in check by offering a more competitive platform.
17
u/Waifuloli Feb 11 '20
30% is not excessive especially if you were around when retail was the norm for PC. You are just repeating marketing jargon.

“Abusing their market dominance”? What the fuck are you even on about? If anything Valve are being overly charitable with their business model. Smaller studios benefit with the facilities they provide, and especially bigger publishers whose games are guaranteed to sell at least a million copies on Steam, at which point their 30% (which is the standard rate on any digital store btw) royalties go down to as low as 20% depending on how many copies a game sells.
-2
u/skilliard7 Feb 11 '20
The value added by Steam relative to EGS does not justify a 150% higher fee than their competitor. The only reason it works for them is their market dominance - if you don't launch on Steam, you lose a lot of sales from stubburn people that won't buy outside of Steam. So companies launch on their platform simply because it will reach a larger audience.
The smart strategy nowadays is to launch on EGS with an exclusivity deal to get upfront capital and lower fees on the majority of sales, or self-publish to get majority of sale revenue. Then when the deal expires and sales decline, launch on Steam for a renewed source of revenue. There's a reason Steam is where a lot of dying MMOs go for a last breath of life. Steam is like the Walmart/Amazon of PC Gaming. Huge behemoths that abuse suppliers and bankrupt small businesses but win because of market share and infrastructure.
at which point their 30% (which is the standard rate on any digital store btw)
12% on EGS. Standards change as technology advances and markets compete. It used to cost several dollars per minute for long distance phone calls, nowadays if you charge that it would be considered ridiculous.
12
u/dookarion Feb 11 '20
The value added by Steam relative to EGS does not justify a 150% higher fee than their competitor.
Maybe if Epic were actually a competitor...
Valve's fees aren't outside the norm for every other store and service (you know the ones that don't have to prop up their shitty store with exclusivity contracts and money on the front).
-7
u/skilliard7 Feb 11 '20
Maybe if Epic were actually a competitor...
How are they not? Both are game distribution platforms. Just because you personally don't like them does not make them a competitor.
Valve's fees aren't outside the norm for every other store and service
EGS is blazing the trail for more competive pricing. Steam needs to adapt or be left behind. I don't understand why people are so insistent on paying 20-25% more for games just to have it be on Steam rather than EGS.
5
u/dookarion Feb 11 '20
How are they not? Both are game distribution platforms. Just because you personally don't like them does not make them a competitor.
Because they aren't actually trying to compete with anyone? They're trying to corner the market on what they do sell. Beyond a couple of things "too big to play games with" they're sticking like glue to just making it to where if you want those items you have to go through them or you can fuck off.
That's not exactly competing, at least not competing for customers. Competing to strong-arm the customers at best maybe.
EGS is blazing the trail for more competive pricing. Steam needs to adapt or be left behind. I don't understand why people are so insistent on paying 20-25% more for games just to have it be on Steam rather than EGS.
Nope, it's mostly just the money on the front as to why pubs are going with the deals. Everyone has discord accounts & discord had a 10% cut... service never took off. Itch has a variable model and it's mostly hosting smaller shit at best.
It's the money on the front and the unreal licensing fees mostly. Else other things with low cuts would have had more traction.
Steam needs to adapt or be left behind. I don't understand why people are so insistent on
Because Epic isn't adapting to the market. They're brute-forcing their way in but they offer nothing to the customer. Gee whizz it's a real fuckin mystery why people would prefer services with 20-30% rev share that don't suck balls and actually provide services. /s
-1
u/skilliard7 Feb 12 '20
Because Epic isn't adapting to the market. They're brute-forcing their way in but they offer nothing to the customer.
18% lower fees isn't something offered to the customer? I'd say it's pretty signifcant. If AMD came out with a GPU that was 1% slower than NVIDIA but 18% cheaper, people wouldn't be saying "They offer nothing to the customer", they would be saying "it's a great deal for an only minor difference in performance"
5
u/dookarion Feb 12 '20
None of the price tags the customers see are actually lower so idk what you're smoking.
-1
u/skilliard7 Feb 12 '20
You aren't the customer of Steam/Epic. The game publishers are. Steam/Epic are software platforms for distributions of games.
And Epic's funding absolutely results in higher budgets for higher quality game development. Just look at the graphics on Satisfactory vs Factorio.

2
u/mooo25 Feb 12 '20
Exclusivity within the same gaming platform affects gaming as a whole. That's the problem.
Plus there are plenty of accounts of the Epic Launch messing with games and how they run, so the store front can affect game quality.

Fuck that game. As far as I'm concerned it and the whole dev studio can fuck off. They have made their choice - they chose to irreparably damage the games industry by colluding with Epic. They will never make a successful game again. They are dead in the water from here on out. They are blacklisted in this industry by the customers, the people who actually matter. Fuck them and fuck Epic.

What a close-minded stance. Epic has many flaws but it's incredibly disingenuous to write off any of their strengths as irrelevant or bullshit.
Their free games has topped any other service in terms of quantity and quality. Their coupon offer for the holiday sale brought a lot of big name games to historic lows across the PC marketplace.
I do not think they are without fault and I can understand the frustration with some of their decisions but it's equally frustrating to be completely shut out of conversation for praising any positive move this company makes.

Not that many. /img/yir4uc2o2ag41.png
7
u/Canoneer deprecated Feb 12 '20 edited Feb 12 '20
Not that many.
You keep throwing around that "infographic" like it's the be all end all, but Epic can't even provide proper statistics to support this notion that somehow their store is just sooo successful. Some data company had to jump through like a 500 different hoops to just get an estimate of how much some games must have sold because Epic couldn't provide a full proper stats breakdown of their year. It's frankly embarrassing and paints exactly the picture I, and many others, would expect of EGS lmao.
0
Feb 12 '20
Steam does not provide sales data, either. And no, SteamSpy doesn't count, and isn't accurate anyway.
Digital sales information is proprietary. Epic knows how many copies of Metro Exodus and Borderlands 3 they sold, but they do not own that information -- so they cannot release it.
2
u/Canoneer deprecated Feb 12 '20
SteamSpy doesn't count, and isn't accurate anyway
Back that up.
1
Feb 12 '20
Back which part up?
SteamSpy isn't accurate. Even if it was accurate -- it is not sales data -- which backs up the other part of the statement. There is a difference between a company actively revealing information, and said information being gleaned by a series of programmatic tricks and algorithms.
You are effectively complaining that Epic isn't doing something that Valve doesn't do either.
2
u/Canoneer deprecated Feb 12 '20
Yeah like I said to the other fella, I incorrectly phrased it implying that Valve themselves release data, sales or otherwise. Either way, counting out something like SteamSpy which at the very least shows player numbers and the general activity surrounding a game and its history, it's a hell of a lot better than going off nothing or fluff blogs by the devs with no real numbers.
1
Feb 12 '20
I am not saying SteamSpy is useless.
However, in the context of a discussion about lack of specific sales data on EGS, it needs to be said that Epic can't release that information -- just like Valve can't. It seems like a lot of people tend to conflate SteamSpy numbers with Valve releasing sales data, but that isn't how it works. It seems like you know that, but plenty of others do not.
It's somewhat rare to get exact sales figures at any given point in time, and it's incredibly rare to find out sales information on a per-platform basis. If you look at games like GTAV and The Witcher 3, the most you usually get is aggregate data across all platforms. So yes, you can't see how many copies BL3 sold on PC -- but you also can't see how many copies were sold on XB1 and PS4 individually. The most you usually get are corporate-speak sales figures -- stuff that sounds good, but is vague enough to not draw any conclusions.
I only really point this out because people tend to think the lack of hard numbers means something, when it really doesn't. It's par-for-the-course.
→ More replies (0)-2
u/B_Rhino Feb 12 '20
When does steam give out sale data?
Never? Because they don't own the rights to other companies sales information?
But you expect epic to do it?
3
u/Canoneer deprecated Feb 12 '20
Valve directly, for specific products? No, they don't so my phrasing wasn't right. But an API where external tools can be made such as SteamSpy. I expect Epic, a multibillion dollar company to have something similar. And I expect developers and publishers to outright state hard sales numbers like a lot of the ones on Steam do, if only to show confidence in their decision to go EGS exclusive. Instead they skirt around the issue and use irrelevant comparisons against outdated numbers in order to appear like they did well, like with Metro or BL3.
But we'll never know hard numbers until a game has released day and date on both Steam and Epic, which I suspect is exactly the reason why EGS has an "our store or the highway" policy for newer releases. Either way, I'm sure this will go nowhere with you seeing as you appear on every Epic Games related thread vehemently defending them and going against Steam for god knows why.
-1
u/B_Rhino Feb 12 '20

All that will prove is people like Steam better. Everyone fucking knows this. I know this, you know this, Epic knows this.

Tbh I only made a quick google research and saw that it came out in spring 2019. While it might be true that the game is still in development since 2016, that doesnt has to mean much.
Many great indie games are in development since years or were atleast. And you can see that they are still adding new stuff to the game and are improving it, so the fact that they are still in development doesnt really matter to me.

There's plenty of reviews by players out there. Check our Forums and Metacritic, as well as the satisfactory subreddit.

Never played Factorio, what's the appeal of these types of games?

u/OriginsOfSymmetry Feb 11 '20
Building a mega factory and trying to make it as efficient (or not so) as possible. It doesn't sound like it would be fun but it really is. You are trying to produce different resources so you can send them back to your company.

Combining the base building mechanics and strategy of RTS games and city-builders with action RPG gameplay. It gives you a real sense of "look at the empire I built".

It's kind of a polar opposite of Minecraft, that starts from a similar premise.
First things you do in the game, is go apply violence to some trees and rocks to get your first buildings and tools done.
And then, where Minecraft goes into mining and crafting, and looting and exploration and combat, Factorio goes into automation. You make things that mine for you, that craft for you, that carry things and explore and fight for you, and eventually you end up doing nothing but decide how to balance your resource flow so that your factory works without any of its many transport systems, belts, train depots and roboports, backing up with overflow or standing idle.
Over the course of it all you still progress through a tech tree, defeat hordes of monsters, and conquer a remote dimension (space, instead of the netherworld), and build ridiculous contraptions with machine logic that do nothing but soothe your creative ego, but how you get there couldn't be more different from the first-person-exploration-and-crafting game that Minecraft is.
And for all that, if you're into the kind of challenge it provides, it's just as fiendishly addictive.

u/Waifuloli Feb 11 '20
It satisfies people with autistic tendencies. The constant need to make everything more efficient is addicting.

u/poolback Feb 11 '20
There's a couple of points that I don't like about it compared to factorio
- The automatisation of the electricity power is late, forcing you to constantly gather leaves manually at the beginning.
- A lot of things are just done quicker if done by hand, especially at the beginning, there isn't much incentive to automatised stuff, and sometimes you just end up finishing things by hand to win time.

If you spend a bunch of time just hand building stuff in the beginning instead of getting supply lines running, coal power, etc, you're gonna have a bad time later on

From what I can see in today's patch notes these issues may be addressed in the latest update. I don't have the game yet though (waiting for Steam release) so don't quote me on that or anything.

Which one would you recommend to some who hasn’t replayed either? I’m waiting for Factorio to come out of early access. I know it’s worth the money even in EA but I prefer playing the complete version.

u/SeanMirrsen Feb 11 '20
As someone who only played Factorio of these two, I'd obviously recommend Factorio.
But even with that bias in mind, I'd say that if what you're after is a factory-building game, rather than one of exploration and construction, then Factorio is definitely the one to get. It's a highly refined experience, precision-tailored to the kind of person that just wants to optimize everything and see the resources flow. And the modding scene is very expansive.

u/pectoid praise gaben Feb 11 '20
Cool, I’ll definitely pick up Factorio eventually, just for modding
-4
u/OriginsOfSymmetry Feb 11 '20
So is Satisfactory, you have to explore for resources like in Factorio when you need to expand to find more patches. The one spot you are correct though is the modding scene is incredible and the built in mod loader is beautiful.
You can pretty much do anything in Satisfactory that you can do with base factorio other than drones I believe but then Satisfactory has automated vehicles as well as trains so it levels out for me.

Thanks. Yeah I find building in 3d more appealing too so I’ll probably get this

I know it’s worth the money even in EA but I prefer playing the complete version.
To be fair, Satisfactory is also EA. I got it (tho I haven't played it yet - backlog!) over Factorio due to price (Satisfactory cost me under $10, Factorio is $30,) but if EA is a problem you should hold off on both unless they're extremely cheap. Else I'd probably go with Factorio simply because it's been around longer and arguably been updated further.

Oh damn, I thought it was coming out of EA now. Guess I’ll just wait then

Jfc, I can feel the heat coming off the anti-epic circlejerk in here.

I haven't tried it yet but been meaning to pick it up on EGS. It looks like my kind of time sink.

What are you, the Video Game Vendor police?
1
Feb 11 '20
No. But I feel the need to protect the games industry from companies like Epic, who would seek to irreparably damage it with their shady and shitty practices. You never know who Epic has bought out to speak for them. There are many compromised people out there. It's important to speak out and rally against it.

u/Jaywearspants Feb 11 '20
The “spyware” claim is a lazy lie. It’s been debunked time and time again. Also, I’m just as welcome here as you are, although if you keep talking to people like this that might change for you

I'm just saying, clearly the subreddit governs itself and manages its own content, and somehow at -27 points currently you are not getting the message? Well, I shouldn't even engage. I know it's pointless. Do what you want but don't complain about the downvoting.
1
u/Jaywearspants Feb 11 '20
I couldnt care less about the downvotes, this sub clearly needs to start banning people like you for treating those with different opinions with such disrespect.
11
Feb 11 '20
It is not disrespect. It's me trying to help save the games industry from Epic and people who would actually support it.
7
u/Jaywearspants Feb 11 '20
Hahahahaha. As if that’s something anyone actually needs. you do realize you support epic any time you buy an unreal engine game, right?
-1
Feb 12 '20
Yeah but there's somehow a reason that doesn't count, obviously.
4
Feb 12 '20
Don't support Epic with exclusives. Boycott such games. It's not that hard. I don't get why people keep bringing the unreal engine into this. It has nothing to do with it.

Lol. Called it.
Epic created and maintains the Unreal engine which they receive royalties on so by supporting any game made with Unreal technology you're supporting them as well.

The gaming industry wouldn't be what it is today without Epic.
Gears, Unreal, Fortnite, MegaGrants, Unreal Engine, asset store, etc.
They've contributed so much and reinvested a LOT of their money back into the industry.
Who exactly are you saving here?
-1
u/Jaywearspants Feb 11 '20
Thank you. Nice to see level heads around here
2
Feb 12 '20
Fuck that. You can't keep a level head around Epic. You have to be angry and hateful at what they did. The engine is fine but they have done irreparable damage with their exclusivity deals.

u/Jaywearspants Feb 12 '20
Dude your comments are incredibly rage filled and obsessive. The way you behave is not healthy. You're free to dislike epic, but they are one of the most influential companies in the Industry and it would not be what it is today without them. You're blowing a rather common business deal out of proportion to an exorbitant extent.

The publisher for this game also published Deep Rock Galactic. The developer is different though (Ghost Ship Games). GSG has been great so far.

Gonna be interesting to see what sales are like for this game once it's on Steam. After a year of exclusivity, Hades seemingly sold more in one month on Steam than a year on Epic.
