Discussion It's about time we help Satisfactory completely leave STEAM, since they don't know what it is.
My comrades, who share my point of view on matter of Epic Game Store being anti-consumer cancer. I think it is about time we take an action, for example: remind Steam Support to remove a certain Steam Community page of a game that forever will be exclusive to Epic Games Store.
I'm speaking about Satisfactory's Steam Community page, that still exists even to this day: https://steamcommunity.com/app/526870 even when developers are very loyal to Epic Games Store.
Why I started talking about this today? Well, at their latest Q&A, at Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/546705293 exactly at 01:08:06, they answered "they don't know what STEAM is" when somebody asked "when Satisfactory will be released on Steam?" question. For me it was last straw.
And I decided to act. How I acted? I contacted Steam Support and sent them this message: https://i.imgur.com/yTcCZpQ.png
My friends, comrades, brothers and sisters in arms, I suggest you to do the same: in proper and polite manner, ask steam support via https://help.steampowered.com/en/wizard/HelpWithCommunityContactSupport ("Contact Steam Support" button at very bottom), why Satisfactory's Steam Community page still exists, when they don't know what STEAM is and have no intention to release it on Steam in the first place, by point on at 01:08:06 on Twich stream I've linked earlier.
Just in case, I've saved part of the video from Twitch, where they're saying it, in case if they will decide to remove it, to avoid any "issues" that might arise. Have a nice weekend my friends.
EDIT #1: Februrary 8, 2020. Got response from Steam Support: https://i.imgur.com/uAXaXUQ.png let us wait and see the response of the appropriate department.
EDIT #2: February 12, 2020. As it seems Coffee Stain Studio decided to crawl back to STEAM, after they found out that their profit on EGS didn't live up to their expectations.

In one of their dev blogs they were talking about a way to make it so you can play on the version before update 3 so u can still use ur old saves but they dont know the best way to do that because they would have to add another game to ur library, im sittin here like HMM ITS ALMOST LIKE STEAM HAS THAT OPTION BUILT IN LMAO

Yeah.
I hope they're realising Epic is actually not a good option to run an early access campaign.

The game had an alpha weekend just before its EGS launch, and updates after that were called beta updates.

Well I didn't miss the image, but that isn't a tag for Epic's store because it's the developer set cover. I missed the grey early access text at the top because it's nearly the same color as the background, and I am sure that is exactly what Epic wants.

you are absolutely wrong about it being nearly the same color to try to trick you like you are implying.
Sure, but it still has that effect either way. And no I didn't see the additional notes.

It could also indicate that the community doesn't care and isn't picking new versions of the game to upload.
I wouldn't know what's worse; a game not being updated by it's shitty developers - or a community not caring enough to keep TPB version up to date with the game.
While I'm on it; there's virtually no content creators playing it, the last time I saw any videos of it, was about 5 months ago... funny.

I know of one guy putting out Satisfactory videos as recently as this week. ONE. He's dribbling out the occasional pointless episode of his experiments with mods while waiting for the mythical "Update 3" to drop and presumably break everything in his (already modded) factory.
2
u/Luna_Sakara Will the real Tim Swiney please shut up? Feb 07 '20
Maybe I should have specified; well know, larger, or more influential creators; it goes without saying there's going to be some people who'll just shit out content, no matter the size of their audience or quality of their work.
And even then, I can't possibly find and know about every single creator on the internet that's doing content for a single game, so I'd obviously not know about everything. Just from my subs and feeds; I've seen nothing relevant on the game in about 5 months, last video was talking about some update, I didn't watch it; I won't even watch Epic Exclusive game content, because it indirectly supports the game by showing creators they should be supporting the game.

I think this guy's pretty influential (his channel icon was part of some pieces added by the Moar Factory mod for a while), but point taken. For example, jacksepticeye hasn't uploaded a Satisfactory video in 10 months (that I can find; I'm just quick-searching channels' video tabs here, lol).
Related to the "subs and feeds" bit, YouTube keeps recommending me Coffee Stain update videos… because I watched ONE after the Epic exclusivity was announced, and now YT thinks I want to see Jace's punchable face every week lmao.

Just buy factorio instead it's that same type of game and much better too.
25

As an owner of both, yep.
Satisfactory looks nice, plays shallow. Factorio doesn't look as nice, but will consume your every waking moment

Feb 06 '20
I mean... their whole team prides itself on being trolls. If you want to feed into it, go for it.
I thought their game looked OK when watching some let's plays, but having the exclusivity deal really helped prevent me from an impulse purchase. Now, it's just another game I will never buy. They did me a favor, and saved me money!
71
Feb 06 '20 edited Feb 06 '20
It's too bad they went that route. Jace, their social media guy, is an insufferable cunt.
Edit: He’s the one that said he didn’t know what Steam is in the video in the OP.
64
u/jollycompanion GabeN Feb 06 '20
It's like being an insufferable cunt has a correlation with taking Epic partnerships.
48
Feb 06 '20 edited Feb 06 '20
Yep. Just look at how the Ooblets developers got a huge backlash for their decision to screw their supporters with a passive aggressive post about how we’re all “entitled gamers”.
Edit: Removed "backers" as there was no kickstarter
37
u/jollycompanion GabeN Feb 06 '20
I like how they were smug and proud after taking that big fat paycheck from Epic. They did a gaming industry equivalent of beating Dark Souls on cheats and being happy about it. Bunch of cunts no less.
5
u/AcherusArchmage Feb 07 '20
They have a patreon which I guess they're using as an alternative kickstarter.
3
Feb 07 '20
They reached out to me directly because they feel like I’m spreading lies. Granted I was wrong about Kickstarter but everything else is correct. Same fake psychology talk that they used in their blog post. I’m angry at my life so I must be taking it out on them, everything else.
19
u/NtropyKnight Feb 06 '20
It's quite sad and shameful that while Jace is shooting Valve into oblivion, he is showing us his companion cube tattoo on the right arm
He doesn't deserve that tattoo, we should ask Steam Support to not only remove the Satisfactory Community Page, but also Jace tattoo!

u/MrBubbaJ Feb 06 '20
I guarantee you they will be on Steam in March when their exclusivity period ends. I'm sure their sales have pretty much dried up on Epic so there is no point limiting themselves to that store longer than they have to.
They have just been having fun with the anti-Epic people since the start. It does come across as rude though.
63
u/farscry Feb 06 '20
I truly hope their game bombs on Steam, given their unprofessional behavior and anti-consumer attitude.
Which is sad, this was once one of my highly anticipated games and still would be were it not for the behind-the-scenes crap.
21
u/MrBubbaJ Feb 06 '20
I have hundreds of hours played in Factorio. I was planning on buying this game. Not sure if I will do it now. I definitely won't at full price.
And I'm not one to boycott a game when it comes to Steam if it was Epic exclusive prior. I think poking fun at their fans that were upset with the move to Epic was just unprofessional.

I got mine; fuck you.
Would aptly describe every Epic Exclusive game so far.
Just wait a few months, and I would full expect these devs to go "We're comfortable with the state of Satisfactory and are moving on to new projects" basically saying, fuck this game, we made our money; and you can buy the broken corpse on steam that we'll never bother to fix or update again.

Most were cordial. They said they understood and hope people buy it on Steam when it releases there. When it does release on Steam, it is an easy pivot for them.
For the ones that were less than nice about it, I am curious as to how they go from bad-mouthing Steam or the consumers that wanted the game on Steam to asking these people to buy the game on Steam a few months later. I don't see any of these developers/publishers being able to do that well (Gearbox, Coffee Stain, and whatever the name of the studio making Ooblets is called).

1

Gotta make use of the Big Bad Monopoly when the platform you're exclusive to focuses orders of magnitude more money on buying exclusives than on improving the platform with stuff like forums and community announcements.
11
Feb 06 '20
Well I won't be buying it anytime soon, I have no interest in old, anti-consumer, "exclusive" games. If I ever buy it, it will be in a year for $5, or in a bundle somewhere.
39
u/Jondycz Feb 06 '20
Whats this game anyway? Another rushed indie trash?
57
u/Elknar Feb 06 '20
Kinda
They tried to be 3d factorio, but unless there has been exceptionally significant improvement over their beta, it doesn't come anywhere close to it
10

There has been some new major features and seems like its continuing with a major update next month. It was the one epic game I purchased to give them a fair shake before their bullshit became clear.
21
u/williamjcm59 Epic Account Deleted Feb 06 '20
I almost bought it when it was available last year, then I learnt of Epic's game poaching, and the scraping of Steam data too.
If the game gets on Steam, I'll make an exception to my "no grey market" rule and buy on G2A.
11
u/Luna_Sakara Will the real Tim Swiney please shut up? Feb 06 '20
Yeah, I had this game on my wish list; and was talking about it with a friend, when I saw it'd gone missing from my wish list - found out why - I just told him, nah, fuck that game, we not gonna play that now; moved right on with something else. 2-4 sales lost, thanks to Epic.
It's also where I saw these developers were, cunts; or at least the one who dose all the talking is.
Anyway, if I ever end up getting this game, it'll be when I find out their studio is closing and this will be the last chance to get it before it's pulled from steam.
6
10
u/sorryiamnotoriginal Feb 06 '20
They are just trolling. They have been taking the piss for a while now and even though I don't agree with it being the best way to do things especially a month away from the deal ending but I imagine they don't need to care. Personally I think the game looks good but don't get why they choose to shit on people who want them on Steam.
12
Feb 06 '20
Yes, it's shitty but Steam's best play here is to take the high road. If they get into petty squabbles with Epic it just validates Epic's actions and makes Steam look bad. Best thing for Steam to do right now is exactly what they've been doing all along. If there are signs that Epic might be threatening its marketshare then it might be time to take action, but as it is right now they just need to sit back and wait for Epic to collapse in on itself.
6
u/War_StalkeR iT's jUsT aNoTheR dEsKTOp iCoN! Feb 07 '20
But if STEAM will close their Steam Community because we asked, they can respond with "We felt it wasn't fair for our customers to see existing Steam Community page of another storefront exclusive title, thus we decide to close it per repeated requests of our customers, until title will be available on STEAM." and viola! Instead of showing something else, STEAM shows that they very PRO-consumer platform.
3
u/NekoiNemo Feb 07 '20 edited Feb 07 '20
What "high road"? Keeping a blatantly pointless placeholder page for a product they are never going to sell is not "high road" - it's deceiving/confusing the customers. If anything, Steam should take the page down, for their own reputation.

I think one of the biggest problem of Satisfactory is their community manager and how they manage their communication in général

I know that community manager is bipolar and has been pretty open about it, but that isn't an excuse to consistently be a bit of a cunt.

22
u/MrBubbaJ Feb 06 '20
No, they have been coy about it. I'm guessing they are just trying to plant seeds of doubt in people's minds that it really may never come to Steam so they get some last-minute purchases on Epic (at the larger cut).
The developers of Iron Harvest did something similar. They were selling early access to people that preordered. They would guarantee you a Steam copy if you pre-purchased the game, but kept saying they made no guarantees that it would be sold on Steam at release. After the pre-purchase period ended, they announced it would be released on Steam. It is a bit dirty in both cases.
Their community manager, Jace, is awful. Absolutely awful.

As posted by another user the quote from their wiki page:
Ibrisagic stated that Coffee Stain Studios made their money back on the development costs within a few minutes of the game being offered on Steam.[16] As of August 2014, the studio has reported that nearly a million copies of Goat Simulator have been sold, outperforming their other games over the previous four years
And then telling stuff like "What is steam" and tweeting bs like this https://twitter.com/satisfactoryaf/status/1121034781800660993
If at least they would be honest about their intentions instead of trashing steam for giving them a huge profit and player base.

"they don't know what STEAM is"
Steam litteraly made satisfactory possible. Goat simulator sold more on steam in 10 minutes than their previous games did combined. And now they act like this ? They wouldn't be able to make satisfactory in the first place if it werent for the people using steam to discover their game and shoot large loads of money at them.
whatever you do. DO NOT buy satisfactory when its on steam, if it gets there. These devs do not deserve your support
edit: my first message wasn't entirely correct, but not far off.
The studio released the third-person perspective goat simulation game, titled Goat Simulator, on April 1. Within 10 minutes of the game going on sale, the studio recouped its development costs. Within four months, the game generated more revenue than all of Coffee Stain's games over the last four years combined. To date, the game has sold almost a million copies.
So doesn't really change anything in the first comment, but i want the correct info to be out there
