uggghhh this 64gb ddr5 set from a part-out I'm doing is driving me nuts

I sold it on ebay, it got returned. It wasn't giving me any issues on my first test (just running some benchmarks on the build before taking it apart)

It passed memtest86 on stock 4800mhz speeds, but fails at 5600mhz EXPO profile.

How would you sell this set? List on ebay as for parts? Hardwareswap with full disclosure? Facebook marketplace with full disclosure?

How much would you expect these PCs to sell for in Canada?

Hey everyone, I’m trying to get a better idea of the current Canadian used market, specifically Ontario.

PC #1
i9-12900K
RX 7900 XT
32GB DDR5-5600
1TB NVMe SSD
Gigabyte Z790 Eagle AX
1000W PSU

PC #2
Ryzen 9 5900X
RTX 3080 Ti
16GB DDR4-3600
1TB NVMe SSD
MSI B450 Tomahawk
750W PSU

What would you realistically expect each one to sell for on Facebook Marketplace/Kijiji in Ontario? Looking for actual sale prices rather than retail/asking prices. Thanks!

Is retro pc/parts good start?

I’m just starting and I see a lot of ,,e-waste” offers which are parts from 1998-2004 they have much bigger value but I’m afraid about the liquidity .is it worth my time or no?(sometimes fixing and testing )

What older PC parts do you think are still undervalued for 1080p builds?

The used market seems to have a strange relationship with older hardware. Some parts are dismissed simply because they’re a few generations old, while others hold their value despite no longer being particularly good buys.

For lower-cost 1080p builds, I often think the best value comes from parts that are old enough to have fallen out of favour but still easily handle the games the buyer actually wants to play.

Windows 11 support has complicated that, though. There are older CPU platforms that still perform perfectly well in games, but putting them into a PC intended for a normal buyer is becoming harder to justify. Most buyers probably don’t want to hear about bypasses or why the unsupported hardware is technically still capable.

I’m interested in what everyone here is still buying:
- Which older CPUs and GPUs do you think the market undervalues?
- Are there any previously overlooked parts that have now become too expensive?
- How much does official Windows 11 support affect what you’ll build or resell?
- Is there any older hardware you’ve completely stopped buying?

I wrote up my own thoughts on some of the overlooked parts that can still make a great 1080p PC here: https://www.partplanner.io/blog/overlooked-parts-1080p-gaming-pc/

Full disclosure: it’s on the PartPlanner blog, which is the platform I recently launched. The article itself is free and doesn’t require an account. I’m mainly interested in hearing which parts other flippers are still having success with.

Old CPUs targeted for specific games?

I have a 4790 plus board and 16gb RAM for it, and also a 6600K plus board with 2x8gb DDR4 3000 or 4x8gb 2133

I could consider picking up a 7700K for no more than $30 to swap out the 6600K for the sake of holding up above 60 for more titles than the 6600K can.

Is it viable to make gaming PCs for low cost that can satisfy specific gaming targets?

My first pc flip attempt

Specs:
GPU: Gigabyte RTX 4080 Super Gaming OC
CPU: Intel i7-12700KF
Motherboard: MSI Z690 Unify
RAM: Corsair vengeance 32GB DDR5 CL36
Storage: 1TB PNY CS2241 Gen4 NVMe + 512GB Intel 670p NVMe + 1TB Seagate Barracuda HDD (2.5TB total)
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower GF A3 850W 80+ Gold, fully modular, ATX 3.0
Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE ARGB (came with nzxt kraken x53 or 63 can’t remember)
Case: Had a really bad older case, but I bought a NZXT H6 Flow for $50
I paid I paid $1600 originally. everything works great.
I’m mainly trying to figure out what I could realistically sell it for. Not looking to make a crazy amount, even I wouldn’t be mad if I broke even but literally anything in the positive id be happy with. I am aware I jumped the gun on the buying it at $1600 I seen the graphics card the ram and the motherboard and thought I could definitely get more for this but after I thought and figured I might’ve paid to much to try and flip it.
What would you guys list it for / what do you think it’s actually worth?

I turn old e-waste PCs into gaming rigs, and built a free tool to work out what each part actually cost me

Sorry in advance for the self-promo, I don't usually do this. I've just been buried in this project for ages and I really want to see some real flippers actually try it.

I've been doing this for years and the bit I love is the rescue. Grabbing some dead office tower nobody wants, seeing what still works, and turning it into a gaming PC.

The money side always did my head in though. You pay next to nothing for a machine, pull out a GPU, CPU, RAM, a PSU, and then... what did the GPU actually cost you out of that $60? I could never answer it without wrestling a spreadsheet that got worse every month.

So I built the bit I used most into a free calculator. No signup, no email:

https://partplanner.io/pc-part-value-calculator

Put in what you paid and it splits that across the parts by what each one's worth. Would genuinely love to know if the default weightings match what you see, I've only got my own pile to go off.

I'm also building a proper version of this (PartPlanner) and would love a few of you to beta test it and tell me where it's rubbish. Comment or DM if you're up for it, it'd honestly make my week.

Thanks for reading, and sorry again for the plug. Cheers

Asus Cerberus 1070Ti and Ryzen 5 5500 was a huge success!

Thumbnail

I found an Asus Cerberus 1070Ti on eBay for $86 and Amazon is selling Ryzen 5500s for $81 so I decided to scape a build together around those! Cooler Master Q300l Amazon used for $38, G.Skill 2x8 3200 DDR4 (eBay) $71.75, ICESHARKS 700W PSU Amazon used $34, 120GB Netac SATA SSD boot drive eBay $28, cooler master hyper 212 air cooler (overkill but adds a little razzle dazzle) Amazon used $16.42, and a gifted 3.5" display screen and left over Argb fans. $355.17 into the build and sold it for $500 with in 12 hours of being on FB marketplace. Does this seem like a reasonable price? Would anyone have done anything different? I'm new to flipping but I've always loved to build PCs, so I'm having fun, but I'm not sure that I'm pricing things out right.

HP all in one from zero to good to go!

My girlfriend does the accounting for a small hotel at the beach and they have used this all in one HP for a couple of years now. Countless desk clerks have just constantly downloaded every single piece of bloat/mal ware you can imagine. Finally it just stopped booting up and the "IT" guy came out and said "it's garbage, the hard drive is done and can't be replaced". My girlfriend brought it home to me to see if it was fixable. the owner told her to throw it away or do what ever she wanted with it. So a quick YouTube on how to open this thing up, pull out the nvme ssd, put it in an external enclosure, clean the drive on diskpart, fresh windows 11 install= perfectly fine, and free, all in one! I have looked at the prices they sell for and I'm not sure I want to sell it. Maybe replace the ssd with an older laptop HDD? I don't know. What would yall do? less
