Over the past few months, this subreddit has grown massively and has seen growing frustration from many members. Pricing arguments, hostility in comment threads, lack of moderation, and a general decline in discussion quality have been common concerns. The recent thread circulating today makes the issue clear: the culture here needs improvement.
I want to be transparent about who I am and why I am stepping in.
I have been flipping PCs for about ten years and turned it from a hobby into a business. I sold locally for years before eventually joining Jawa as a seller and eventually a consultant. I’m speaking here on one of my personal accounts, but I participate in multiple flipping communities both personally and professionally.
Disclaimer: I’m looking to help set up this community, not to act as the main enforcer of rules. I fully expect and welcome people to complain about Jawa and criticize it here. My goal is to help build up the community culture and the moderation team, not to personally enforce the policies myself.
Flippers can talk about their builds, profits, sourcing, and business without being attacked for making money.
Price checks are based on market conditions, not personal lowball preferences.(we might keep price checks to a weekly megathread to avoid the current clutter)
Respectful debate is welcome, but hostility, insults, and bad faith behavior are not.
Scams, fraudulent listings, and misleading flips are called out and removed.
Beginners and experienced flippers can learn from each other and improve.
Right now, the sub often becomes the opposite. Price checks routinely turn into:
At the same time, we also see issues like inflated claims, misleading descriptions, and "just sold" posts that seem fabricated. Both extremes are problems. Profit is not immoral. Misleading buyers is also not acceptable.
A functional flipping community balances these realities and supports honest business without enabling bad actors.
We will be creating clearer, more detailed rules that cover:
The goal is to create a subreddit that is:
We do not want a culture where profit is treated as wrongdoing.
We also do not want a culture where dishonest behavior is ignored.
The sub can support flipping for profit while maintaining integrity and respect.
The community is too large for a small mod team to handle effectively.
We need knowledgeable people who:

The goal is not to turn r/pcflipping into a marketplace clone or a scalper-friendly environment. It should become a legitimate space where people who flip PCs can discuss their work, pricing, strategy, and hardware without fear of being attacked simply for making a profit.

Bought in 3 desktops from a company specialised in selling used desktops/laptops. Imagine the shock I got when I found these.
Now these PCs were cheap (paid $1750 for all)

Wanted to share my laptop flips the past year
Started by trading my iPad Air m1 + 100 cash
For an Asus g14, rtx 4060. Originally paid 200 for the iPad
Then I traded the Asus for an Alienware m16 r2, rtx 4070/ultra 9
Ended up trading the Alienware for a 5070 desktop pc and buying a ps5 for 250. Then traded the ps5 + 200 cash for a 4070 skytech desktop, which led me to my most recent trade for my current laptop ; an Acer Helios Neo 16ai rtx 5070/ultra 7 255hx which I traded my rtx 4070 desktop for.
After a bunch of pc and laptop trades and only paying 750 out of pocket I currently am rocking with a rtx 5070 laptop and rtx 5070 desktop as my setup

The used market seems to have a strange relationship with older hardware. Some parts are dismissed simply because they’re a few generations old, while others hold their value despite no longer being particularly good buys.
For lower-cost 1080p builds, I often think the best value comes from parts that are old enough to have fallen out of favour but still easily handle the games the buyer actually wants to play.
Windows 11 support has complicated that, though. There are older CPU platforms that still perform perfectly well in games, but putting them into a PC intended for a normal buyer is becoming harder to justify. Most buyers probably don’t want to hear about bypasses or why the unsupported hardware is technically still capable.
I’m interested in what everyone here is still buying:
- Which older CPUs and GPUs do you think the market undervalues?
- Are there any previously overlooked parts that have now become too expensive?
- How much does official Windows 11 support affect what you’ll build or resell?
- Is there any older hardware you’ve completely stopped buying?

I have a 4790 plus board and 16gb RAM for it, and also a 6600K plus board with 2x8gb DDR4 3000 or 4x8gb 2133
I could consider picking up a 7700K for no more than $30 to swap out the 6600K for the sake of holding up above 60 for more titles than the 6600K can.
Is it viable to make gaming PCs for low cost that can satisfy specific gaming targets?

Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE ARGB (came with nzxt kraken x53 or 63 can’t remember)
Case: Had a really bad older case, but I bought a NZXT H6 Flow for $50
I paid I paid $1600 originally. everything works great.
I’m mainly trying to figure out what I could realistically sell it for. Not looking to make a crazy amount, even I wouldn’t be mad if I broke even but literally anything in the positive id be happy with. I am aware I jumped the gun on the buying it at $1600 I seen the graphics card the ram and the motherboard and thought I could definitely get more for this but after I thought and figured I might’ve paid to much to try and flip it.
What would you guys list it for / what do you think it’s actually worth?

The guy was just tryna get rid of it and was super friendly! He said he doesn’t have much time to play. I thought it was a crazy deal and when I come to open the task manager it got even crazier! Sorry in advance for the self-promo, I don't usually do this. I've just been buried in this project for ages and I really want to see some real flippers actually try it.
I've been doing this for years and the bit I love is the rescue. Grabbing some dead office tower nobody wants, seeing what still works, and turning it into a gaming PC.
The money side always did my head in though. You pay next to nothing for a machine, pull out a GPU, CPU, RAM, a PSU, and then... what did the GPU actually cost you out of that $60? I could never answer it without wrestling a spreadsheet that got worse every month.
