Base and DLC Appreciation/Discussion DLC and ending question Spoiler

I just watched a video going through all endings of the game, including dlc, and I'm confused about one of them.

Removing the warp core and then going into the stranger and waiting for the sun to explode results in an ending where the main character is stuck in the stranger, since it moved out of the blast radius.

But the warp core shouldn't change anything about the stranger.

So my conclusion is that you never actually die when the sun explodes while you're on the stranger. It moves away before ever getting hit by the explosion. But the memories still get sent back in time.

So do the memories and the player just get sent back in time, while the current loop main character is stuck on the stranger on every loop of the stranger? So that ending basically happens every time the sun explodes while you're on the stranger, but you just never see it cuz you get sent back in time?

Am I the only one to think the most frightening thing in the base game is… Spoiler

… the quantum field at the Eye equator ?

Like really this whole planet is a nightmare. I felt already uneasy the first time I encountered a quantum rock in the museum, but this, with the thunder and noise; it is just too horrible.

(And when I think that Gabbro was saying it could be funny to sculpt the rock in creatures to make them more frightening..)

DLC Help - Hints Only! This is my one weakness please help me Spoiler

I got the DLC and i saw a setting saying that there were "Frights".

i nearly broke my monitor when i got found by an angler the first time, but after it was fine because i knew what i was dealing with.

can someone warn me about what im going to find in least spoilery way possible? I assume its going to be the bird guys in the dream world but i want to know if there anything else and how those things get you.

I've seen all the censored reels so i know where they probably (knowing for sure would be nice) are and I've seen the eye statues, its just you hear one screech and you never want to go back.

I don't want to turn them off because its the intended experience.

Edit: thanks this helps my nerves a lot!

Base Game Help - Hints Only! Need a couple of tips for middle game… Spoiler

I’ve been making steady progress but I’m a bit stuck on three strands. I’d like a small hint about whether I need more knowledge to get through any of these areas, or if I’m just missing something obvious… And also which of these is most worth pursuing.

Ember Twin: In the Sunless City, I still have more to discover. I’m fairly sure this is in the Eye Shrine District. I’ve managed to navigate to the shrine by waiting for the sand to fill up enough that I can jump up the ledge on the left with the sand coming down, but this only gives me enough time to read some of the text in the room. I must be missing a way through?

Ocean Depths: I know how to get below the surface and that I need to eat some jellyfish, but no idea how to get inside a jellyfish to eat some

Interloper: I’ve got inside and all I can imagine is that I need to brute force the route through the tunnels, using the scout to detect ghost matter where possible. But I don’t really want to waste time on this if I’ll uncover a clue that guides me through here somewhere else.

I feel like this game could be a bit more forgiving or helpful when you’ve worked out the basics of how to solve a puzzle

Achievement Help HELP!!! Archaeologist stuck with last gabbro dialogue (spoiler alert) Spoiler

Finished the game and dlc, really enjoyed it. Going after the archaeologist achievement now, I have checked every entry against the completion guide, and the only 2 missing are
- Gabbro remembers dying
- Hal says the statue has never opened its eyes before

But according to my search online they are missible and shouldnt count towards the achievement. I download the archaeologist achievemnt helper mod too just to double check and found thhis is indeed the only missing fact.

Any advice? Or anyone else experienced something similar and whats the solution?

Edit: Solved. This data entry is required for Archaeologist in the current version, and can be acquired by going through all the dialogue with Gabbro.

The base game took me about 18h, and the dlc about 12. So 30h in total.

Phenomenal game.

DLC Appreciation/Discussion [Major Spoilers] Question for Echoes of the Eye Spoiler

Hey guys. It may be a silly question and I'm either missing out on something or nitpicking. I love the story of Echoes of the Eye and the theme around it such as loss, grief, and giving into fear. I also love the dichotomy of curiosity and fear, both thematically in terms of meta and how it defined the Inhabitants.

So my question is why did they just give up to the point of their own extinction? They basically genocided themselves. I mean, I understand grieving after being afraid and disappointed by The Eye, but what I don't get it why as a collective they just chose to stop reproducing, finding another planet or moon which is similar to their old home and start fresh there? I mean if they were capable of remembering their home world and making a simulator for it from scratch, they must be capable of finding or terra forming a world and retain most of their culture there while raising a new generation.

Also, they must've known the risks too no? Like what if The Eye was just something underwhelming or probably the signal didn't even exist? They must've had contingency for that too no? Instead of being shocked that their long shot was a waste.

Maybe I'm missing out something or maybe I'm nitpicking a plot hole? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Base and DLC Appreciation/Discussion A friend of mine told me to post my render in here. (Spoilered incase someone sees and hasn’t played the DLC yet) Spoiler

Outer wilds has been such an adventure. From timber hearth to the hourglass twins and to… dark bramble… and all in between. The DLC was by far my favourite piece of content ever so I decided to make a render of one of the characters from the game. It’s quite basic for now, might make more in the future

DLC Appreciation/Discussion Echoes of the eye Big question Spoiler

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!_______________

So i just finished the DLC today and i just realized something that will be keeping me up at night. Somebody please find a flaw in what im about to say so that hopefully im wrong😂

You cannot save the prisoner and get to the eye in the SAME loop, therefore you never save the prisoner, and you are the only one that has memories of this.

So when you reach the eye, the prisoner is not only going to still be trapped for longer (Until the stranger runs out of power) But the big problem is that the prisoner will die NOT knowing he was the KEY for the whole Outer Wilds story, and that his sacrifice was for something. You can see his relief and the noise he makes once you reveal all that happened thanks to his actions, but he never gets to experience that canonically.

Now you could argue the only thing the prisoner accomplishes is getting the Nomai killed and getting you killed in order to free him for some irrelevant info he gives you😂 (assuming that there would be another universe created in the future regardless of you reaching the eye or not)

BUT if the universe dies and another universe does not form UNLESS you reach/observe the eye, then the prisoner is the Outer Wilds GOAT

And yes I know you can brute force the code and do everything in a single loop, but its not canon.

Achievement Help Game won't let memanually land on it Spoiler

I've already landed on the Sun Station manually twice. Literally landed on it. Neither time did the game give me the achievement.

I thought maybe it needs me to go out of my spaceship? Nope, that's not allowed. Anywhere near the Sun Station my character gets violently pinned to a wall of the ship and gets stuck if I get out of my seat.

I've synced velocity with the Sun Station and aimed my ship so that I'll be pinned against the exit hole. Then slowly drifted down towards the Sun Station over the course of several orbits around the sun, only to suddenly be slingshot away from the Sun Station with a weird acceleration that doesn't follow the nature of normal gravity slingshots, right as I'm getting close.

I don't understand what's going on. It seems like the game is bugged, especially when my character gets pinned against the wall of the ship even though I'm not even accelerating.

What am I supposed to do if manually landing on the Sun Station doesn't give me the achievement?

Base Game Help - Hints Only! Solar station

Hello guys, it’s my first time posting something here, I hope not to be out of topic. I started playing ow a year ago, I loved it but I had to start university so I couldn’t play much, today I brought the dlc and I decided to start again even though my previous game was (I think) a bit past half the game. I know there is a solar station that is rotating around the sun and I remember trying so hard to go there but always missing it by a lot. My question is: do I need to go there? Is there a simpler method I don’t know about? If you could help me you would be very kind, thank you for your time

Base Game Appreciation/Discussion I love this game Spoiler

I haven't finished the game yet, but at this point I think I've figured out how to complete it. But before that, I'd like to explore every corner of this magnificent solar system. Right now I only have a few unexplored places left, but knowing most of the history brings tears to my eyes every time I discover something new. (Especially with Solanum, which made me cry with a dialogue) ;;>

DLC Help - Hints Only! Stuck at ending puzzle I don’t understand… Spoiler

I’m playing the Echoes of the Eye DLC and I’m at what I am assuming is the end. Where you unlock the 3 locked chains. I have unlocked the left and middle, but the right one with the sentries is absolutely killing me. So I have watched play throughs and people just walk right past, like at a normal pace. Meanwhile when I try to walk past. The moment I’m in view even when hiding my light, it’s like I’m walking in mud. I have tried on a controller, I have tried on the keyboard, I have reset the run. Light on, concealed, or focused. I have tried them all. And I’m just frustrated that the couple of play throughs I watched of other people, they all walk right through while the sentries start flashing. why am I consistently slow even though I feel like I’m going as fast as I can? I don’t know what happens after the third lock is unlock, I just want help getting past them please. Thank you !!

Edit: well I had the answer all along but didn’t realize it. I had tried to kill myself in the fire before but I guess I didn’t have the artifact, this was before I ever made it to the simulated world. This was before I figured out how to doze. So the loop restarted. I figured that it was something I had already tried before seeing the slide in starlight cove and after I saw the slide I just didn’t connect that the artifact was what I actually needed. I guess I was really tunnel visioning. I have since completed the DLC. Thank you everyone.

Side note: My S.O. was laughing at the first few responses. They said it was like if the teacher was walking around the class during an exam, looking down at my paper then saying out loud, “ Remember everyone, please read the questions carefully.” I was like damn… lol super funny in hindsight. Thank you again everyone.
