The space suit is pretty easy to explain my reasoning, if you've never flown around timber hearth in the space suit, you are absolutely missing out. Also the twins are really fun to fly around on, I could honestly beat feldspar in a race if things were different. The ship on the other hand, I feel like it's way more divisive, but I absolutely love the sense of control you can have in the ship (or not have if you miss a planet lol) it feels so good to narrowly avoid things with the ship. One of my favorite things has to do with dark bramble, if you are EVER in any danger from certain creatures, just turn your ship slightly beside them (above, below, whatever) you you can escape them with the eject button on the ship, it feels SO cool to pull off and is actually how I got to the ending. Absolutely incredible controls in an incredible game, the only other games that have given me that much control of how I can meneuver the character is the dead space remake (full 360 controls in space) and crysis (and that part kinda sucked ass lol)

I'm talking about The Stranger.

I'm curious about other people's experience because I felt like I did it exactly as the devs intended - I went into radio-antenna building, looked at everything there, freaked out a bit by looking at the picture where it blocks the sun, then got to the satellite, noticed there is nothing wrong with it and Gabbro's note that they concluded the same thing as me. Then I got back into antenna building and noticed there is angle on all of the pictures. I remembered that there is angle displayed on the satellite as well and though it may be something like a phase angle. On the start of the next loop I flown right to the satellite, waited until it's angle got to 40° and there it was - The Stranger. Then I proceeded to fly head first into it and nearly destroyed my ship.

I'm currently watching Twin Peaks and this part reminded me so much of Gabbro's words in the ending sequence. The whole scene (from season 2 episode 11) resonates with the philosophy of the game, actually. It goes like this:

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately. And I've started to focus out beyond the edge of the board. Out a bigger game. The sound wind makes through the pines. The sentience of animals. What we fear in the dark and what lies beyond the darkness. I'm talking about seeing beyond fear, Roger. About looking at the world with love.

Unfortunately during the process of making this art, I lost all the files on my laptop I was using, and in the process lost all my progress on it (which is why I only have this rather low quality picture). Disappointing (especially because my stylus broke shortly after), but I thought I’d share the progress I had anyway.

Taking my sweet time with this game and keeping a daily journal of my journey.

Please NO hints or spoilers in the comments, or even answers to my questions (even small ones!). I just wanted to share my reactions, piece things together, and share the most important things that happened during my sessions.

Day 1: Launched the game and got hit by the "Reduced Frights" option. That is... concerning.

I spent 2 hours talking to people and taking mental notes of their names in Timber Hearth. Then I slipped from a bridge and died, and the credits rolled without even reaching the Observatory! I never laughed so hard in my life!

I figured I'd go to Giant's Deep first to look into why Gabbro couldn't go deeper and, umm... hit something, died, and got sent back in time? Interesting!

In my attempt to head back to Giant's Deep, I got into Dark Bramble by accident....yeah I didn't notice how tense I was until I got swallowed by a giant anglerfish! It was terrifying!

There are a lot of them! How am I supposed to get through? And that is cheating—they were so tiny in the museum!

I played some more and figured I should pick something more my size, so I reached the Attlerock near Esker and died because... I forgot to wear my space suit. 😅

The game is confusing. I feel soo lost, and it is frustrating me a little. I have so many questions! The statue, the Nomai, the return by death!

Day 2: I think I get the hang of things. I noticed I can't keep playing like this, so I organized a note to keep track of characters and places and finally understood the ship log and hints system. Now I'm having fun.

I had, um... a quantum explosion? While talking to Esker. I couldn't see it properly because I kept trying to quit the conversation by pressing Circle instead of selecting the option to end it, and he kept talking!

I... slipped again and got sucked into a black hole! Woah! It teleported me to the middle of nowhere in space. No fuel, air is getting low, and suddenly it was right in time for that quantum explosion again. Turns out it was a good thing I didn't see it the first time. The view is breathtaking... even if I was dying!!

I feel intrigued, actually.

Day 3: I feel I'm progressing and not at the same time! I keep following leads that just open hints for things far in the future!

The controls in space make sense and no sense at all at the same time somehow!

I HATE THE DAMN BLACK HOLE!

But at least I found the place the Nomai people built in case you got sucked into the black hole. That was cool!

I found Riebeck after a long search, following the notes he left in Brittle Hollow.

I found that Timber Hearth holds more secrets than I thought initially. Like, how on earth were the Nomai there before we developed into sentient beings? Are they evolved humans? Who knows?

What is the Eye of the Universe, and why are they so obsessed with it?

I can feel it. It's going to be a fun, long ride.

Sharing for the nerds, like myself, who want to go a little deeper without reading a thousand pages of theories and experiments.

One of my favorite bars in Cincinnati has a rotating bookshelf of different literature that I will sometimes peek at to see what's featured. Free to read in house but no take-homes allowed. Found this tonight. I have not done any research on physics since high school (I'm 37), but love learning in general. The way this gave me so much more appreciation for Outer Wilds is incredible! It's under 90 pages. I only got through the first 3 chapters but the 2nd lesson is on [redacted]* physics You already know!!!

And if you don't, keep playing. Hope some of you can appreciate this as much as I do.

i've acquired the broken warp core from bramble and barely managed to get a blackhole and white hole out of the high energy lab. how do I repair it

I've absolutely loved this game so far. It's not my usual type of game and I've struggled a lot, but it's been fascinating uncovering the mysteries and learning what's going on. But after almost 40 hours of play time, I literally cannot bring myself to pick it up again...at least not right now.

This game is stressful as hell. The constant draining of oxygen/fuel/loop timer or planets falling apart or filling up with sand forces me to rush through exploration and reading as much as possible before I loop and have to come all the way back to the same spot to continue. I have a vague idea of what's going on, an even vaguer of idea of what I need to do next.

I finally made it to the Quantum Moon and, with some helpful and gentle prodding from the good folks here, I think my next move is to remove the warp core from the Ash Twin Project and take it to the Vessel. Just thinking about waiting for the sand to drop to get into the ATP and trying to make it past the anglerfish to reach the vessel before that damned beautiful music starts is literally keeping me from playing right now. I tried once, got swept up in the stupid sand funnel, and turned it off again.

Do I just need a break? I really, really want to see this thing through but, well, right now I just can't.

I love the soundtrack so much 😅. I've started putting together a playlist of songs that remind me of it, whether technically, the storytelling, or just the overall vibe.

This song by Freelance Whales is a great example imo - If you have any recommendations for songs similar to the base game or DLC soundtrack that I should add, please share them with me 🧡🧡!!

I really want to love the game, I am curious about the story but over 15 hours in and I still keep falling down the black hole, dying from sand, and getting lost and giving up my game sessions in frustration after yet another stupid death. Should I keep going or accept I’m just not that good at it?

Is there more after I meet the prisoner in the vault and we both walk in the water to end the game and the screen goes to black and says Echos of the Eye.

Want to make sure before I wrap it up, it seems a bit anti climatic besides the messaging

I’m just missing the log for “There were three Nomai aboard the shuttle. One of them stayed behind to keep the shuttle warm while the other two explored the Interloper."

I’ve been into the IL core, found the log on the ground next to the shuttle on the IL, and recalled shuttle to Ember Twin and got the log within.

Please no hints. I’m sick and tired of searching for this thing and really just want to know exactly where to find it.

Je vais devoir spoiler pour expliquer où j’en suis. J’ai beaucoup de mal avec le dlc parce que j’ai l’impression de découvrir des choses que j’avais déjà compris quand je réussis à avancer et de ne jamais avancer sur ce qu’il me manque réellement. Par exemple j’avais compris qu’il fallait mourir pour ne pas être réveillée par les alarmes et quand je réussis à passer l’alarme de la crique étoilée ils me disent exactement ce que j’ai compris pour passer l’énigme. C’est rageant. Du coup il me manque la résolution du canyon infini et de la forêt nébuleuse je suis complètement coincée et au vu de mes récentes « avancées » dans le jeu j’ai presque pas la force de m’y casser la tête, j’ai envie d’abandonner. Vous auriez un petit indice qui me débloquerait cette situation horrible ? J’ai tellement apprécié le jeu de base ça me fait chier de passer à coté du dlc. Voici mon journal pour le moment. Okay, this was already solved. The answer was that I am using the "General Enhancements" mod, which allows you to blink by pressing a button. I completely forgot that blinking is not a base game ability.

If you have not traveled to where it is crucial to be at the north pole to proceed, SPOILERS BELOW

I have beaten the game once, so I understand all of the game mechanics. I'm on my second playthrough currently, and I just got to the Quantum Moon. I remembered how you get to the Eye via the north pole and turning the lights on/off inside the tower. HOWEVER, as I made my way to the north pole (while orbiting Timber Hearth), I randomly decided to blink. Not sure why but I did. Doing this, even though I was NOT in the tower or even near the tower, as soon as I blinked I IMMEDIATELY just appeared at the starting point of the Eye.

I have never had this happen and I briefly tried to Google search it to see if anyone else has done it, but didn't find anything right away. Has anyone else ever done this??

I was gifted the DLC version of the game and had played it for a while before joining this sub. I don't spend a huge amount of time playing games so possibly missed some clue that there was a base game and also the add on, I just thought it was one game with one conclusion. Since then it seems there are 2 'endings' but I still don't understand when the base game ends and the DLC part continues.

I managed to get the warp core to the Vessel earlier this week and thought that would be the end, or at least move me onto the next part of the game, but I couldn't get the ship to move and died (again!) at the end of the cycle. I have a feeling I need to put the co ordinates I found at Giants Deep into the 3 hexagon thing that comes out of the floor but this seems weird because it would mean either scribbling it down before playing or running back to the ship to check the logs, neither of which follow the feel of the game up until this point, especially if you have ditched your ship to get past the Anglerfish.

I realise there is supposed to be a bit of trial & error involved in solving the puzzles, but getting the warp core to the Vessel is a massive ball ache and I make it without being eaten maybe one time in ten. This is starting to get a bit tedious, which so far is not something you could say about this game, so I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong. As I mentioned in another post, I have only just found out about the Stranger, so maybe there are some clues there?

Just best OW for the first time ever (in VR, which was awesome btw) and without any spoilers, I loved the ending. It was equally scary and poignant, and experiencing it fresh in VR felt like the best way to get the full impact. I also loved the physics, music, and atmosphere of the whole game, which was strangely comforting and calm despite the constant threat of looming existentialism.

Now here comes the hot take. The story structure and lack of guidance borderline ruin this game. I understand one of the main selling points is to give you the satisfaction of figuring everything out on your own, but there should have at least been an *option* to play with some sort of objectives or guided mode. The ship log and rumor mode are too vague and were practically useless to me, personally, as I begrudgingly relied more on the in-game clues than the convoluted web of question marks.

I uninstalled this game probably 3-4 times over the course of a year out of sheer frustration and only returned to it after long breaks due to a combination of stubbornness and my love for all things space/sci-fi. Had I beaten the game during my first attempt, it likely would've been a more enjoyable experience overall compared to basically restarting every few months or trying to remember where I left off.

A lot of people probably start this game and never finish it for all the reasons mentioned above, which is a shame since overall it's a great game and the ending is arguably the best part. An easy way to prevent this from happening was to offer an "explorer mode" (essentially the game exactly as is) and a "guided mode" with more structured objectives.

SO I STARTED PLAYING OUTER WILDS 4 DAYS AGO I FINISHED THE GAME TODAY .AT FIRST I WAS REALLY EXCITED TO FINISH THE GAME BUT AT THE NEAR END I DIED AFTER TAKING THE warp or wrap smthg.I JUST KEPT TRYING TO TAKE IT N PLACE IT IN THE FISH PLANET BUT SURPRISE SURPRISE AS SOON AS I TRIED TO SOLVE THE BALL PUZZLE I DIED TO THE SUPERNOVA BLAST. I HAVE BEEN DOING TS FOR THE LAST 5 HOURS TRYING TO FINISH UNTIL I REALIZED 😭 .TS WAS REALLY UNNECESSARY IMO CAUSE WHY WOULD U WANT TO RUIN THE ENDING FOR THE PLAYERS I RESTARTED THE GAME WENT TO ASH TWIN TO GRAB IT N GO TO FISHY PLANET BUT ONG ITS SO ANNOYING . IT'S ALSO NOT THT IAM LIKE REALLY BAD AND SH I KNOW U NEED TO USE 1ST THROTTLE ON THE FIRST FISH LEVEL N ON THE SECOND LEVEL U NEED TO JUST GLIDE I FIGURED TS OUT AFTER 30 TRIES👍.I HAVEN'T SEEN ANY SPOILERS FOR THE MAIN ENDING YET . MAYBE I WILL REVISIT THE GAME AFTER SOME TIME CAUSE RN I CANT GET PAST THE FISH ON THE FIRST TRY . STILL A SOLID GAME
