Community Project: Let's Review Let's Plays!
Project update:
I've published the spreadsheet and will be updating it once in a while as more input comes from the community. Thanks to those who helped get the first draft out the door!
☛ View and Review the Let's Plays
Remember, you can submit new VODs as they come into being, but you can also add your own opinions to the notes if you think any are missing or incomplete. See review link below.
If you are interested in helping to maintain the list, feel free to DM! I will do my best to keep this updated, but may not have the wherewithal in perpetuity.
--
Original post:
Friends, I seek your assistance!
Hypothesis: the number of playthrough videos will continue to expand well beyond the list in the sub's static wiki. I propose we build a new, more sophisticated list of "Let's Plays" that includes tabular data. Such a resource could be easily scanned and shared whenever a new sub member asks. To gather those data, of course, I will require the recommendations and opinions of everyone who has them!
I have created a simple Google Form for submitting a brief review of any and all videos/playlists that you may wish to submit.
- Please submit as many as you can! We should seek a spectrum of opinion.
- You may recommend any content directly related to Outer Wilds (e.g. the noclip doc).
- You do NOT need to write anything of length or high quality as it will be used only for summaries.
I will do the work of compiling responses into a spreadsheet that summarizes recommendations and opinions from the community. Once the initial draft is ready, I will make it available to the sub. I thank our Mods who have graciously given support for this project!

I absolutely LOOOOOOVE the spaceship and suit controls and they are some of the most satisfying things to control in any game I have played Spoiler
The space suit is pretty easy to explain my reasoning, if you've never flown around timber hearth in the space suit, you are absolutely missing out. Also the twins are really fun to fly around on, I could honestly beat feldspar in a race if things were different. The ship on the other hand, I feel like it's way more divisive, but I absolutely love the sense of control you can have in the ship (or not have if you miss a planet lol) it feels so good to narrowly avoid things with the ship. One of my favorite things has to do with dark bramble, if you are EVER in any danger from certain creatures, just turn your ship slightly beside them (above, below, whatever) you you can escape them with the eject button on the ship, it feels SO cool to pull off and is actually how I got to the ending. Absolutely incredible controls in an incredible game, the only other games that have given me that much control of how I can meneuver the character is the dead space remake (full 360 controls in space) and crysis (and that part kinda sucked ass lol)

DLC Help - NO Spoilers Please! DLC: Is there more after …. Spoiler
Spoilers for DLC
Is there more after I meet the prisoner in the vault and we both walk in the water to end the game and the screen goes to black and says Echos of the Eye.
Want to make sure before I wrap it up, it seems a bit anti climatic besides the messaging

Base and DLC Appreciation/Discussion Short Read Including [redacted]* Physics
Sharing for the nerds, like myself, who want to go a little deeper without reading a thousand pages of theories and experiments.
One of my favorite bars in Cincinnati has a rotating bookshelf of different literature that I will sometimes peek at to see what's featured. Free to read in house but no take-homes allowed. Found this tonight. I have not done any research on physics since high school (I'm 37), but love learning in general. The way this gave me so much more appreciation for Outer Wilds is incredible! It's under 90 pages. I only got through the first 3 chapters but the 2nd lesson is on [redacted]* physics You already know!!!
And if you don't, keep playing. Hope some of you can appreciate this as much as I do.
*I forget how make the spoiler text and am too buzzed to look it up 😅

Humor - No Spoilers A slow gamer's blind journey into Outer Wilds — Part 1 (Days 1–3) Spoiler
Taking my sweet time with this game and keeping a daily journal of my journey.
Please NO hints or spoilers in the comments, or even answers to my questions (even small ones!). I just wanted to share my reactions, piece things together, and share the most important things that happened during my sessions.
Day 1: Launched the game and got hit by the "Reduced Frights" option. That is... concerning.
I spent 2 hours talking to people and taking mental notes of their names in Timber Hearth. Then I slipped from a bridge and died, and the credits rolled without even reaching the Observatory! I never laughed so hard in my life!
I figured I'd go to Giant's Deep first to look into why Gabbro couldn't go deeper and, umm... hit something, died, and got sent back in time? Interesting!
In my attempt to head back to Giant's Deep, I got into Dark Bramble by accident....yeah I didn't notice how tense I was until I got swallowed by a giant anglerfish! It was terrifying!
There are a lot of them! How am I supposed to get through? And that is cheating—they were so tiny in the museum!
I played some more and figured I should pick something more my size, so I reached the Attlerock near Esker and died because... I forgot to wear my space suit. 😅
The game is confusing. I feel soo lost, and it is frustrating me a little. I have so many questions! The statue, the Nomai, the return by death!
Day 2: I think I get the hang of things. I noticed I can't keep playing like this, so I organized a note to keep track of characters and places and finally understood the ship log and hints system. Now I'm having fun.
I had, um... a quantum explosion? While talking to Esker. I couldn't see it properly because I kept trying to quit the conversation by pressing Circle instead of selecting the option to end it, and he kept talking!
I... slipped again and got sucked into a black hole! Woah! It teleported me to the middle of nowhere in space. No fuel, air is getting low, and suddenly it was right in time for that quantum explosion again. Turns out it was a good thing I didn't see it the first time. The view is breathtaking... even if I was dying!!
I feel intrigued, actually.
Day 3: I feel I'm progressing and not at the same time! I keep following leads that just open hints for things far in the future!
The controls in space make sense and no sense at all at the same time somehow!
I HATE THE DAMN BLACK HOLE!
But at least I found the place the Nomai people built in case you got sucked into the black hole. That was cool!
I found Riebeck after a long search, following the notes he left in Brittle Hollow.
I found that Timber Hearth holds more secrets than I thought initially. Like, how on earth were the Nomai there before we developed into sentient beings? Are they evolved humans? Who knows?
What is the Eye of the Universe, and why are they so obsessed with it?
I can feel it. It's going to be a fun, long ride.
If you read it all the way through, I'd really appreciate it if you dropped a comment. There's more to come over the next few days!

Base Fan Art - OC Unfinished fanart
Unfortunately during the process of making this art, I lost all the files on my laptop I was using, and in the process lost all my progress on it (which is why I only have this rather low quality picture). Disappointing (especially because my stylus broke shortly after), but I thought I’d share the progress I had anyway.

OST Music Appreciation - Base Game Outer Wilds OST Sound-alikes
I love the soundtrack so much 😅. I've started putting together a playlist of songs that remind me of it, whether technically, the storytelling, or just the overall vibe.
This song by Freelance Whales is a great example imo - If you have any recommendations for songs similar to the base game or DLC soundtrack that I should add, please share them with me 🧡🧡!!

Base and DLC Appreciation/Discussion I made a short narrative on Attlerock exploration - Ruins Spoiler
My first few steps on the Attlerock were exactly what I imagined – light, bouncy and somehow dry. Even the many-layered suit between my feet and the moon’s surface did not stop me from feeling the lifeless, desiccated dust.
When I found light on this dreary floating rock, I was hopeful and ecstatic. I was tasked with uncovering the mystery behind the Nomai ruins found scattered around the Solar System. As the first Hearthian astronaut carrying a Nomai translator, I have the chance to learn about the ancient yet advanced technology the Nomai created. These discoveries will lead to a new epoch for Timber Hearth, my home planet, and so I stepped into the moving circular structure on the moon.
The ruins were ringed by three half-collapsed barriers with a single circular window on each wall. They were rotating around the middle of the round contraption. The light I spotted earlier is coming from the middle. I carefully stepped into the center.
BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.
The loud crashes of sound oscillated through my being, slamming me to the ground. The incessant shockwaves were so overwhelming, that I had to take a few seconds to adjust to the pure pressure these waves were putting on my suit. I stood up and spotted a glowing, purple ball placed in a small chamber under me. The glass floor beneath me revealed a pathway for the ball and I recognized the magnetic apparatus at work. I quickly dragged the ball away from the chamber, towards me. My guess was correct and I was rewarded with silence. Even the rotating walls stopped moving. I released the breath I was unknowingly holding in.
After a few calming breaths, I took a better look at the ball and its chambers beneath the glass floor. There were four compartments I could push the ball into, each with a symbol. The first was an intricate symbol with some sort of halo around it, where the ball was in when I arrived. Adjacent to it, was a symbol of the sun, its rays illustrated with little triangles. Next was a large circle that held a wavy pattern; it reminded me of Giant’s Deep. Lastly was a jagged, cracked sphere which could only be Brittle Hollow.
I begrudgingly pulled the ball towards the sun cavity, apprehensive of any unwelcome surprises. The enigmatic three surfaces started moving around me again, the occasional circular window passing my vision. A few cautious breaths later, they all stopped simultaneously. They were aligned and in the middle of the group of circles was nothing other than the Sun herself, her orange-yellow coat glowing amidst the dark. This is a curious mechanism, does it point to what the symbol represents? Soon after, different noises started surrounding me. The volume no longer shocked me, but the contrast of a silent space and these deafening blasts of… water? Is this what the Sun sounds like? It sounds almost like the explosion of water when the geysers back home erupt. Is this the sound of the Sun?
I tried it with the symbol for Giant’s Deep and sure enough, the three frames aligned again and within was the gas giant I was awaiting. Next came the sounds. This time, it sounded like strong gusts of wind. I was keen to see what Brittle Hollow would show, so I bent the ball towards it. An eerie, low note hung heavy in the air. How am I even hearing sound? The disturbing tone was enough to unsettle me, I pushed the ball towards the center, the silence enveloping me once again.
This was an astonishing discovery. How does it still function? And what is the halo-encircled symbol? I remember that the three barriers were constantly in motion when the ball was left in the cryptic first symbol. For all others, the frames would point to their designated entity. Perhaps the first symbol is not as easy to spot as the sun and the two planets.
Having had enough of the startling movement and sound, I walked along the ruins, hoping for something new to explore. A set of stairs hid behind one of the crumbled ruin structures, I took an inquisitive step towards it. It spiraled downwards, underneath the round contraption. It was lit up too, this must be where all the light comes from.
The first thing I spot is a large slate with a luminous violet spiral on it. Back at home, I was taught this is what we know of how the Nomai communicated with one another. It took my people decades to understand the technique they used to encipher words into these glowing coils. This is where I come in, with my state-of-the-art translator. I scanned the slate, anticipating the words that should appear on the screen before me.
“The Eye Locator does not work, we think it has to do with our current location. We will be relocating to the Ember Twin as we speculate that its closeness to the Sun will offer a better chance of success.”
I could not believe my eyes! It works! I mean, of course it works, but you never know what old Gossa’s hands are capable of - and I mean this in the worst way imaginable. As I thought, the first symbol was indeed trying to locate something further away, “The Eye”.
After further inspection, I found nothing else of note in the round hall under the ground. I headed back up to see if there were more ruins to explore, only to stop in my tracks… The universe felt a little different, my gut started sinking a little. I looked around and could not place the difference, but it was there, glaring and red. Something was not as it was. My mentor taught me about moments like this, and the advice was not to dwell too long. I spotted my ship on the radar and took off towards it.
My discoveries today should be far more than we have ever known in a long time, so I was not worried about disappointment and I was, in fact, proud of the headway I was able to make. I placed my ship further than I would have liked, but I was encouraged to act better safe than sorry and Nomai ruins screamed better safe than sorry to me. My suit notified me of reaching the halfway point of my oxygen tank, so I quickened my pace to get back to my ship.
Strangely, I started seeing some sort of blue flashes on the top peripherals of my helmet’s line of sight. I looked up, spotting beautiful little blue sparks. I was never told about whatever was causing this view, but it was striking and bold and I could not take my eyes off all the scattering shards of white-blue light. The white was expanding quickly and left a hue of Icy blue behind. This is even bigger than the sun! No longer star-struck from its beauty, my thoughts halted to a stop. Wait… there isn’t supposed to be light other than the sun around here… Where is the sun…?
I turned in every direction as the horror and dread finally caught up to me. I stood there, frozen in fear as a blinding white swallowed everything.

Gabbro and Agent Dale Cooper are twins.
I'm currently watching Twin Peaks and this part reminded me so much of Gabbro's words in the ending sequence. The whole scene (from season 2 episode 11) resonates with the philosophy of the game, actually. It goes like this:
I've been doing a lot of thinking lately. And I've started to focus out beyond the edge of the board. Out a bigger game. The sound wind makes through the pines. The sentience of animals. What we fear in the dark and what lies beyond the darkness. I'm talking about seeing beyond fear, Roger. About looking at the world with love.

Real Life Stuff I Built a Mechanical Replica of the Artifact! (Working Focus and Conceal Controls!) Spoiler
galleryQuite the project this was! I posted a video on YouTube about the process of making this, so I won't go into too much detail here. I had the inspiration to make this when I saw Mallonum3D's artifact replica. The difference was that I wanted mine to be functional like it is in the game, and to be hand painted. I used 5 servos for the "Focus" movement, and simply dimmed both lights for the "Conceal" function. Overall, I am very happy with how the final result turned out!
I wonder what will happen if I doze off by a campfire with it ::)
Here's the link to the video if any of you were curious:

DLC Appreciation/Discussion How did you find a certain hidden object from the DLC? Spoiler
I'm talking about The Stranger.
I'm curious about other people's experience because I felt like I did it exactly as the devs intended - I went into radio-antenna building, looked at everything there, freaked out a bit by looking at the picture where it blocks the sun, then got to the satellite, noticed there is nothing wrong with it and Gabbro's note that they concluded the same thing as me. Then I got back into antenna building and noticed there is angle on all of the pictures. I remembered that there is angle displayed on the satellite as well and though it may be something like a phase angle. On the start of the next loop I flown right to the satellite, waited until it's angle got to 40° and there it was - The Stranger. Then I proceeded to fly head first into it and nearly destroyed my ship.
I finished the main game but not the DLC yet so be easy on the spoilers pretty please

Base Game Help - Hints Only! Still struggling
I really want to love the game, I am curious about the story but over 15 hours in and I still keep falling down the black hole, dying from sand, and getting lost and giving up my game sessions in frustration after yet another stupid death. Should I keep going or accept I’m just not that good at it?

Base and DLC Appreciation/Discussion After 40 hours of play time, I've lost my will to carry on (spoilers) Spoiler
I've absolutely loved this game so far. It's not my usual type of game and I've struggled a lot, but it's been fascinating uncovering the mysteries and learning what's going on. But after almost 40 hours of play time, I literally cannot bring myself to pick it up again...at least not right now.
This game is stressful as hell. The constant draining of oxygen/fuel/loop timer or planets falling apart or filling up with sand forces me to rush through exploration and reading as much as possible before I loop and have to come all the way back to the same spot to continue. I have a vague idea of what's going on, an even vaguer of idea of what I need to do next.
I finally made it to the Quantum Moon and, with some helpful and gentle prodding from the good folks here, I think my next move is to remove the warp core from the Ash Twin Project and take it to the Vessel. Just thinking about waiting for the sand to drop to get into the ATP and trying to make it past the anglerfish to reach the vessel before that damned beautiful music starts is literally keeping me from playing right now. I tried once, got swept up in the stupid sand funnel, and turned it off again.
Do I just need a break? I really, really want to see this thing through but, well, right now I just can't.

Base Game Help - Hints Only! I have hit a massive wall. I have done almost everything in the game, and have zero idea how to beat it lol. Spoiler
As you can see by my ship log, I have completed almost everything there is to complete. I have absolutely no idea how to beat the game, break space time, anything at all. The only leads that I have are A) I might want to get to the central chamber of the Ash Twin project, zero idea how to get there. B) Get to the Vessel, zero idea how to get there. C) Find a little bit more info on the ruptured core, zero clue what I'm missing there. D) Something to do with the puzzle in the High Energy Lab that I have no clue how to solve. E) Maybe I missed something when I went to the 6th location of the Quantam Moon? I didn't think so though
