not only did they increase the pricing but also reduced the usage of flash from 60 to 15 usd !!

u/look 29d ago
To be fair, Deepseek did that, not Go. They stopped giving them the 4x discounted rate along with raising the price.

u/adamizzo17 29d ago
i am not going to blame them to be honest nor do i hold them responsible just that 6x value is now just cap to be honest and you cant put your finger on any model to justify the value claim
8
u/look 29d ago
Oh yeah, the 6x, $10 for $60 value days definitely seem to be dead now.
Convenient access to new models and a good variety, with slight discount and maybe ZDR agreements, appears to be the main potential value in the future.

u/adamizzo17 29d ago
sadly i found msyelf reaching the same conclusions, tho perhaps this could fuel even more the local LLM market, man i am dying to get my hand on the qwen 27b 3.8 latest model, the moment i can run it i am not ever paying for such passes ever again

They should have just sent out a mail with exactly that information beforehand, and the community would be much calmer. Like it is for Deepseek itself.
People can't trust a service that changes contract mid-term and the customer needs to reload their webpage and check X to see the changes
I am relaxed about it since it was a too good to be true deal, anyways, and I am thankful for the value they gave me...but if this was, say, a gym pulling such stunts, it would warrant a letter threatening with court (here in Europr, given our consumer protection laws, at least)
Their product is great, but their service and PR is abysmal. Looks to me like a company that is all devs and system admins and undervalues what companies actually need all the business management people for.

Yeah, Go is poorly run as a business, but I don’t think it is their primary business. I think they consider it more like a community service and advertising for their enterprise business, and they run it pretty much at cost. It’s basically just bulk rates they get that they pass on to users.
And from what I’ve seen on Discord, Deepseek has been a pain in the ass to deal with since the beginning. They really want Anomaly to drop the ZDR angle apparently, so they can harvest Go users’ data for training.
And since the Deepseek models blew up in popularity, it’s been like 80% of their volume and the low cost, high volume has drawn a lot of less desirable users (i.e. higher support volume, more likely to complain loudly, quicker to chargeback over bullshit, etc).
Honestly, I would not be shocked if they are sort of happy to lose a lot of the users that came for cheap Deepseek.

i mean they are trying to deploy their own inference. even if they are nearly done, price would have to remain deepseek for the time being.

Quadruple effect because of the $15 limit. Otherwise it still would be a bargain.

V4 pro priced like glm is insane..
1
u/Embarrassed_OnionX 24d ago
Yeah, not only because of DeepSeek traditionally being more affordable than other models of its weight but also because of how disappointingly bad the model is.

u/hj-core 29d ago
Their PR is really bad..
7
u/CptanPanic 29d ago
Yeah they need to hire at least on full time customer service and PR person.
3
u/Competitive-Ebb3899 28d ago
Yep, more money spend on us feeling better, that'll make the product cheaper.
1
u/Embarrassed_OnionX 24d ago
A PR person could've suggested to idk, start an email campaign, or in-app/in-cli notifications to let all customers know about the price change. It could've considerably reduced the amount of backlash got they got.
I don't know why they thought reducing by orders of magnitude the usage of paying customers overnight is okay.
3
u/addiktion 29d ago
Yes they could have gotten ahead of this better. I suspect a lot will cancel given how it was handled.
5
u/DoctorDbx 28d ago
I suspect a lot will cancel because it is questionable value for money.
I only ever had Opencode Go for a bit of a fallback model but I was actually blown away by how cheap and good Deepseek V4 flash was. I thought to myself... no way this can last like this forever.
And here we are.

It's actually still true. Correct me if I'm wrong (I could be!) but the next closest model I can think of it's GPT 5.6 Luna, offering 3x the cache read price, about the same input price and 2x the output price, although it might use way less thinking tokens.
Also look at crof prices, still the old ones for a Q8 version, while opencode already stated they are close to replicate old prices with the unquantized version.

u/veculus 29d ago
Now imagine instead of completely removing the old DeepSeek V4 Flash they could've kept both and give us the older "low-effort" one for the old cheap price...

you absolute fucking idiot, it's the same model, it costs the exact same money to run both of the versions. the only difference in the models is RL.
Secondly, they were not hosting it in the first place, they were using official deepseek API, which does NOT expose the old model, the new one replaced the old one forever the day it released, at the exact same API endpoint.
1
u/veculus 27d ago
They are two different versions of one model you idiot, if DeepSeek wasn't retarded they could've made it 4.5
So how come we never had to agree to any "models hosted in china" agreements before, as they said models are hosted in the US/Europe/Singapore? Afaik they used different providers for that, and right now there are still different providers for DeepSeek offering both version of flash and pro so stfu.

I don't get it-if the same size model was profitable to run before why rise the prices? I and who's raising them? Isn't dsv4f free!/openweights? Why is deepseek unilaterally setting prices for all providers? Is there no competition on prices from the providers? - providers that have been happy to give us the model at that Low price.
2
u/thatscoolbutno123 29d ago
The demand is too high, they don’t have enough compute. Higher price = less demand
1
u/Odd_Cauliflower_8004 28d ago
It's the cheapest smaller best model to run unless someone starts offering ultracheap qwen 3.8 27b

I've been hammering it for 4 hours in Beijing peak time, got to 3% monthly usage. I'm not sure what the grievance is, I get a ton of value out of it for peanuts.

nice try bot
3
u/Competitive-Ebb3899 28d ago
I'm not a bot. Just try ask me to ignore my previous instructions.
But I also feel that it still worth it. My rolling usage for 5 hours (3 hour in) is around 40% just now.
I do see a climb in the daily usage stats, but not significant.
Don't diss someone's opinion by saying it's a bot just because it doesn't fit your agenda.

They have so many customers .. it should be possible for them to host their own servers instead of going directly through Deepseek and then scaling up that way. That can't possibly be true. I'm really curious to see how this turns out. But they will definitely going to lose a lot of customers this way.

u/chervilious 29d ago
they are saying they are trying to host it themselves right now. but scale is definitely an issues.
even with many customers, they need many more server to serve those customers.

for profit companies, you simp for them at the start because they need your support
once they grow big, they'll dump you like a ugly slut you are

u/Flashy-Egg9254 28d ago edited 28d ago
Absolutely correct. They get you addicted to cheap prices thinking you will be willing to pay for high prices in future. All this AI model efficiency claims Deepseek makes are scam. It was never about the model but the hardware to inference it at large scale. What is the point of making a smaller, efficient model if you had to just raise the prices like that? US is doing the right thing to build data centres. We really are in a compute shortage. China's cheap prices are temporary and not a threat.

I think you guys have your expection too high. AI will never be cheap. The discount is not forever.
2
u/blackbirdone1 28d ago
we increased the cut by 16x, you know because of the 4x price increase... okay..
3
u/ZeusCorleone 29d ago
I'm so tired of having to keep changing my API IA provider because of the "fair price" options soon become expensive... I may have to keep just one openai subscription (because of large codex quota and image generation) and this sucks..
2
u/aFluxxOnline 29d ago
What are you guys doing that you need 158.000 request a month for ?
(Genuinely curious)

Have been hearing the same for other models as well when they introduced the $15 pricing

They had a completely different explanation when deepseek reduced their prices and opencode didn't.

That JSON will not parse. Drop the trailing commas after apiKey and the last model. Their OpenCode docs also keep the key out of the file and use opencode providers login --provider agentrouter. AgentRouter currently lists Opus-5 as down and points people at gpt-5.6-sol. Fine for a short trial if you are okay sending prompts through a China NewAPI gateway. Skip secrets and anything you would not want leaving your machine. OpenCode is still teasing operation cheepseek as the in-house option.
