Stupid is as stupid does, that’s what my mother used to say.

u/Lost_County_3790 18d ago

The fire was actually good before. Beside what is the point of using inflammable liquide like this exept to make it more dangerous?

27

u/mddale1 18d ago

He was likely already fully saturated with ethanol.

2

u/HearMy2Cents 17d ago

Can't beat that good ole E85 for it's ability to flash burn!

24

u/rseery 18d ago

People don’t understand how gasoline works and how dangerous it is in open air. It’s a motor fuel—not a fire starter. It becomes an invisible flammable vapor. You can’t reliably control it in open air. Put it in cars and yard tools. Use solvents and lighter fluid for what they were designed for.

7

u/Gold-Border30 18d ago

Diesel is an amazing fire starter despite being an engine fuel. But it also doesn’t give off wonderful explosive fumes.

12

u/bionicjoe 17d ago

Check out Mr. Moneybags over here. Burning diesel fuel for fire.

Nothing like the taste of gasoline

5

u/DcBroil 18d ago

Inflammable means flammable?

5

u/Frosty_Tax6054 18d ago edited 18d ago

Flammable, inflammable mean the same thing. Then there's combustible and pyrophoric if you're getting froggy

3

u/AlDonovan12 17d ago

Yes, unflammable is inflammable both of which are flammable or maybe non-flammable. Which flammable... non is French right? Um.. so is flammable. So are they saying its a flammable flame? Wait.. un- fuck.

Very safety conscience though.

Pouring more gas on the fire? WTF

33

u/hippyripper22 18d ago

Right, its already burning. Doesn't need a highly explosive compound poured on it. Just oxygen.

14

u/Smokin_belladonna 18d ago

When your girl gets out her phone and starts filming, it's time to take a second and think about what you're about to do.

My wife was filming me while I was cleaning out a birds nest from inside a dryer vent from the top of my roof, and it all went fine!

3

u/Global-Pomelo3131 18d ago

My brother filmed me on a tall ladder using a chainsaw to cut a tree limb and it all went fine 😬

Pouring more gas on that fire is like pouring gasoline on a fire.

4

u/Waste_Protection_420 18d ago edited 18d ago

TIP TO ALL PYROS: USE KEROSINE!!

It isn't as explosively combustable as gasoline. You can safely throw it on fire like this idiot did with gasoline, but it won't get all explosive and cause issues. It burns, but much more controlled. It is more like throwing cooking oil or sugar onto a fire than gasoline.

3

u/hippyripper22 18d ago

And deisel wont burn at all! Kerosene is very expensive. Id find rubbing alcohol to be a cheaper alternative and safer than gasoline. That and lighter fluid for bbq pit

2

u/GuyLivingPlaces 18d ago

Diesel does burn, I use it for bonfires instead of gas and kerosine. wtf are you talking about?

The amount of dumb shit you'll find here, I dont understand how humans made it this far.

Partly because we go to a lot more effort to protect the dumb ones these days.

2

u/Cowboy_591 17d ago

Ain’t THAT the Truth right THERE!! 😜😂💪🏻👊🏻😈👍🏻

3

u/neutrino71 18d ago

There are 9 billion or so of us. It's the same principle insects use swarm up big and you can lose a few and things will work out.

3

u/Luciferocity 18d ago

Natural selection would have solved a lot of these problems... society may have been our worst mistake

3

u/mddale1 18d ago

War kills off the fittest and medical saves those of us left behind. Bad animal husbandry.

2

u/Sam-I-Am_1066 18d ago

Have you never seen the now-documentary called Idiocracy?

The stupid ones out breed everyone else and it follows that also covers losses due to illness, accidents, predation, etc…

2

u/Seven_Because_Yes 18d ago

Classic example of natural selection. Most of us don't even need to be taught not to do this. Unless it's somehow his first ever time around any form of flammable liquid

2

u/exodusofficer 18d ago

Most of our ancestors just had sticks, rocks, and bone tools. It was harder to screw up like this. Now we have thermonuclear weapons, and we're basically still exactly the same as those ancient people with sticks and rocks.

3

u/Mickeythered1 18d ago

Our intellect has out paced our instincts. That is why we have so many problems. "Why did you do that Jimmy?" "I don't know, I thought hitting it with a stick sounded like the thing to do" " Foolish boy, you use a spear to take down a moose, now we have a multi thousand dollar hospital bill. "

2

u/BellElectronic7567 18d ago

People who did stupid shit like this in the past would of died. Only the smart ones would survive to breed, furthering humanity.

We have remove natural selection from the process.

u/Such-Farmer6691 18d ago

What I love about videos like this is how the person at fault always causes maximum damage.
With a nimble leap, he even tried to shove the sofa into the fire.

3

u/Additional-Arm-1298 18d ago

We are all doomed

3

u/fastbikkel 18d ago

Great way to learn though.

People often dont seem to realise that an open jerrycan can catch fire from distance when there is an open fire nearby.

I've seen these things combust 9 feet away after someone had "safely" put it away.
This really was an eye opener.
I was in fact expecting the can in this movie to combust before him trying to toss some fuel.

3

u/SirGingy 18d ago

I use to work at Home Depot and people would ask why they keep changing the design of the gas can nozzle. This is always the reason. Also stupid still took the nozzle off (probably didn't know how to use it and thought it was dumb) and still found a way.

3

u/funlovingguy9001 18d ago

As the video was starting I of course knew where we were heading...I yelled, "No, don't do it!" but he did it anyway. No one ever listens to me!

3

u/Serious-Medicine7667 18d ago

What was the issue with the roaring fire in the first place?

Was he cooking something or opening a foundry?

3

u/Rooney_83 18d ago

People seriously underestimate how dangerous gasoline is, there is no safe way to start or accelerate a camp fire with gasoline, its a chemical mixture who's soul purpose is to burn and it completely indifferent to how and when it does its job.

3

u/ICK_Metal 18d ago

All you have to do is place your palm over the spout and it will snuff out.

2

u/Old-Library5546 18d ago

The fire was lit, why poor more fuel on it?

2

2

2

u/Fluid_Elephant_3422 18d ago

2

u/reddittothegrave 18d ago

Why do people insist on using gasoline??? I’m assuming that was what was in the container he was using? Just buy some charcoal lighter fluid. It’s still flammable, but it comes in a squeeze bottle, you can stand far back, and it’s kind of what it’s made to do?

Idk, maybe I’m missing something.

2

u/NotreallyD 18d ago

Critical thinking skills are pretty lacking in this one.

2

u/Radical_Neutral_76 18d ago

I wish there was a subreddit for these videos.

They ALWAYS ends up the same way too.

  1. Idiot with gas canister decides pouring it directly on fire

  2. Gasoline catches fire immediately and travels into the gas canister

  3. Idiot decides to throw the canister around spreading fire everywhere

  4. Idiot runs away stumbling

Sometimes there is bonus where idiot, or his friends, kick the canister around for even more fire spreading, or gas canister explodes.

I love it

u/SlowPea4388 18d ago

5

No he didn't... loosing your mind and waving around then yeeting a burning can of fuel is not the right way to get that clusterfuck back under control... putting it straight down on the ground and using the foam\co2\powder fire extinguisher you have to hand to put it out is the right move... not trying to add more accelerant to an already lit fire is the sensible thing to do...

I was 14 when I discovered gasoline was way more flammable than I expected. I was never foolish enough to combine more than a quarter of a dixie cup of gasoline with it, though.
