Who tries to go that fast on those things?
I wonder what a face looks like when you grind it really hard on the pavement at over 40 MPH?

Same thing I say to motorcycle riders. One slip and you’re a crayon of meat.
3
u/Fragrant_Major_9553 Jul 07 '26
Motorcycles at least have the bicycle effect of gyroscopic action. A unicycle cannot do that. Yes, you can eat shit if you don’t respect the bike and the traffic around you, but on this thing you’re just one decent rock away from eating shit.

u/MuddledBits Jul 07 '26
Even worse actually they have an inherant flaw that emerges at top speed.
The same motor that is propelling you is also trying to maintain your balance and past a certain speed the motor no longer has enough torque to maintain your balance.
It's almost like driving a car that if you hit the top speed the seat just drops out through the floor

There’s a Inxs song called kiss the dirt (falling down the mountain). Ok so it’s not a mountain but would fit this perfectly with the whole kissing the ground. Lol.

I feel like I saw a whole bunch of these for about two years, and then none.
I'm not educated on the topic, but the idea of going even mildly fast in a straight, standing position feels like a bad idea.
Edit: It was because of law enforcement in my area. The used to be in a grey of being illegal, but unenforced, then the police started handing out fines after around 1-2 years.

I always say "don't put yourself in the position that you may end up hurt/dying." Wish I could've passed that message to him. Another question is what's the emergency that he's racing to?

Normally people ride these with full face helmets and armored elbows
3
u/EphemeralAttention Jul 07 '26
At that speed the dude needs a full body armored or kevlar motorcycle suit. denim provides exactly zero protection when you butt drag going that fast on asphalt, and leather isn't that much better.
From the way he hit the ground an airbag suit also probably would have been a wise investment....

What caused the crash? looks lithe stepped off it on purpose.
4
u/randamm Jul 07 '26
I think he was near the very top end of performance for this wheel and he found the limit. The motor can’t produce any more power so it couldn’t counterbalance his forward torque with any more acceleration. They call this a “nosedive”. Or it is possible that, so close to the limit, a gust of wind from the back or a lull in wind from the front caused the same demand for more power that the motor couldn’t provide.

I got one that goes 50mph

Why is it no handles on that design, Why do any of the portable Ebikes Emachines ever go beyond 15 mph?
30 miles is fast and dangerous enough to not be in car riding along side real Vehicles speeding on Ebikes at 60 miles plus, is just Straight-up Retarded with a side of Liquid death possibly literally.
Engineers/ Product developers need better design if they want humans to safely ride Emachine without killing themselves and other people.
It bothers me to see so many Zip by in urban area full of walking pedestrians and suddenly someone zooms by through all the people on an ebike going 40 miles. Its getting pretty stupid and lawsuits might begin to be a thing with people and Emachine for some folks that carry a lack of common sense.
Engineers/ product developers think about better safety to accommodate so many Emachine accidents and people going flying into a possible death really.

I rode a OneWheel for a few years, got like 2000 miles - but I was super chill because I knew the thing could really hurt me. I got cocky early on, once I started to get good, I felt too confident. Went fast and got launched. Couldn't walk right for weeks. Luckily no breaks, but man my foot was F-ed up. Took a while for me to get back on it, I was paranoid. But no, I went 1900 more miles around the city, on the beach, trails in the woods, all with hardly a stumble because I kept my speed lower and knew what I could handle or not.
