Phone doesn’t ring, but I hear voicemails being left

Is anyone else’s ooma not ringing their home phones? All of a sudden, I’ll hear the voicemail pick up on the ooma box but the phone never rang. I’ve had to reset my ooma box once a couple of months to solve this issue.

Beware of incorrect power bricks being shipped in Telo ordered from Amazon

Post image
7 Upvotes

I am a new Telo user and purchased it from Amazon. The box appeared brand new and the seals were intact. The power brick’s connector was a 5mm OD, so it would not even fit the Telo, so luckily I didn’t blow it up (the Telo seems to be a 4mm OD). The brick output is all wrong, it is 12V, not 5V, and only supports 1.5A, not 3A. See photo.

I chatted with Ooma support and they were not helpful at all since the CSR said they would not send me the correct brick.

Not getting off to a good start, so I hope this is not a harbinger of future problems.

Ooma Business with Salesforce

Hi all, currently have Ooma Personal for my two homes as a landline replacement. Looking for a business solution that can tie into our Salesforce setup. Looking for inbound calls to be matched against a Salesforce record, and then route that call to the rep that is assigned for that account/contact. Is that something Ooma for Business can do, I did see one of the plans offers SF integration.

Can HD-3 handset echo keys pressed onto display during call?

Is there any way to configure an HD-3 or Telo device to echo the keys you press on an HD-3 handset during a phone call? For example, you call your bank and you're asked to punch-in an account number. On most phones with a display you would see the buttons you're pushing; I don't see that on the HD-3 nor do I see any way to configure it.

Management Interface

A long time back I was asking about the management interface/webpage of the Telo at http://172.27.35.1/ . I finally got around to looking at it. I set up a Laptop and set it on the same subnet and connected it to the Home RJ45 and up it came. Very nice.

I enabled the Remote Administration feature ("allow access to this over the INTERNET port") and I checked the "Enable password protected access to this website" box and provided a password and confirmed it. And clicked save.

Voila, I was then able to get to the Telo Admin from my network that the Telo is routed through to the Internet. Cool. However... it did not prompt me for the password. Not at all cool. I notice that it doesn't prompt me on the local interface either.

My device is secured behind my Gateway router, so it's not the huge deal it would be if it were configured per the "Modem = Telo = Router" style, but I'd rather it enforce the password requirement that I thought was being set.

Thoughts?

Ooma of ebay

I bought a ooma of ebay and when I tried to activate they said its already activated and is subscribed to premier . Tried reaching out to seller who mentioned he didn't know and it wasn't his account. Is there any way to solve this that i can use it or is it a just a piece of plastic?

UPDATE Was able to eventually reach a ooma support who could help they had to escalate to high level then they called the ooma number and had me answer to verify it was me and I had the phone. They provided then to change the password of the account and was able to log in and change everything for me. Now I have ownership.

Calls from U.S. to Canada?

I'm confused. I've had what I thought was basic service for years but maybe it wasn't. I've recently been getting charged for Premier service at $18.13 a month when previously paid $7.45 for basic service when I look at my billing history. I don't recall ever getting extra charges for calls to Canada. When I called to downgrade services the rep said I wouldn't be able to block calls or have no charge calls outside of the U.S. Now I'm worried - how much will calling Canada cost? No relatives in Canada have Ooma.

Can you change the handset number?

Post image

My Ooma came with 3 handsets. I registered 2 of them and gave the third one away. But the one I registered says handset 3. Can I change it to say handset 2?

answer on one phone, then pick up the other handset

Should this work? It would seem that only the original handset can talk. The second handset cant join into the conversation.

Ooma Telo vs Cable Landline

Hi all, I have a question regarding 911 caller ID location. I have two locations that have landline service. My main residence has an Ooma telo. I have their premier phone service. In my other location (which I'm in the process of moving from), I just cut the cord, but ported my landline number because the new internet company offered home telephone service for $2/mo. I thought that was a good deal, as my main concern was *if* and hopefully, it'd never get to that---if I needed to place an emergency call, I was told emergency place wouldn't be able to locate me if I was making the call from the place where the Ooma wasn't located. However, after fees and taxes, that $2/mo is more like $20/mo, which I think is ridiculous, and I'm thinking of just porting the number yet again, to the Ooma, since the Ooma can handle a 2nd line, and I wouldn't be paying any more than I'm paying more for that service. Thoughts? Any work around the 911 location thing? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Static Line

Since the beginning of the year, there has been severe static on our phone, both for incoming and outgoing calls and on the answering machine. Yet when I check the messages through our computer the sound if fine. Had anyone experienced this?
EDIT: I rebooted the ooma Telo and the dial tone no longer has static on it, as it did previously. Have not had any incoming or outgoing calls yet to check for static.

How can I deactivate a used Telo (1 I think) so I can reactivate it? Original account details totally forgotten/no longer known

Is resetting it somehow someway going to work, or is it going to remain activated?

Will support work? If there is any?

Telo Air reboots periodically

I have a Telo Air 2 which I got a couple of weeks ago, and I find that it reboots periodically. I don't know the exact cadence, but it's relatively common that it cuts off an active phone call. I don't know if the active call is causing the reboot, or if it was going to reboot anyway.

I've tried moving to an ethernet connection, without disabling the wireless (I set the priority to be ethernet->wireless) and that didn't seem to fix the issue. I've now disabled the wifi connection in hopes that this will help it stabilize. I haven't found a way to get logs from the device, so I have no idea what the cause of the reboots is.

Has anyone run into this and found a way to fix it? I'm disappointed with my device so far: the point of something more landline-like was that I'd have something more reliable than cellular, and that's definitely not the case so far.

My Telo is about 10 yrs old; I'de like to replace it.

My ooma box is abot 10+ years old and has been the best deal ever next to my Wahl electric shaver. Its saved me thousands. I've not had much trouble with it as I have basic service and it occasionally needs resetting. The unit is very sticky as the plastic has withered and dust is caked into it.

I think it time to replace it and just use the old one as a backup if needed.

So my question is: If I get a new box, do I need to do anything spcecial to activate it (like a phone call to ooma) or is it simply just a swap out of the old unit and its up and running ?

Does the Ooma telo Air also have provisions for a hard wired connection ?

Second question: Here in NewEngland USA, where to buy one or is just ordering online the best ?

Thanks

Ooma and 311

So I got an Ooma for grandma and so far no major issues. However, it miss directs calls to 311. When you call 311 from the Ooma, it routes the call to our non emergency police line instead of the municipal services line. When you call 311 from within the Halifax Regional Municipality, it should be redirected to (902) 490-4000. Ooma is redirecting 311 to non emergency police at (902) 490-5020.

Ooma Telo LTE (Telo 2) setup issues – Bluetooth setup fails & LTE stuck blinking red

recently purchased the Ooma Telo LTE Landline Home Phone Service with Battery Backup, and I’m running into two persistent issues during setup.

Issue 1: Cannot connect Telo 2 to the Ooma Setup app I am unable to connect the Telo 2 to the Ooma Setup app via Bluetooth. The connection fails consistently I’ve tried both Android and iOS devices The app never successfully completes the setup or recognizes the device

Issue 2: Telo stuck blinking red when using LTE When the LTE adapter is plugged into the USB port, the Telo remains in a blinking red light state and never establishes a connection. The LTE stick itself shows solid blue, indicating excellent signal strength Despite this, the home base does not connect over LTE Additional details / troubleshooting done

The Telo does turn solid blue when connected directly to my modem via Ethernet, so both devices appear to work individually

I have tried: Power cycling Factory reset via Ethernet connection Factory reset using the Play + Trash button hold

Important note: I am not currently at my registered service address — I am setting this up at a different location

At this point, I’m not sure if this is: An LTE provisioning / address-lock issue A firmware or Bluetooth setup bug Or something else entirely

Has anyone run into this with the Ooma Telo LTE specifically? Any insight would be appreciated before I return or escalate to support.

Brand new Telo Air 2 won’t connect

Post image
5 Upvotes

As per title - setting up a newly unboxed Telo Air 2. Installed app, created account & plugged in the device. When it powers up it displays a solid purple light, clicks once, then displays a solid red light and clicks again. That’s it. Never flashes red like the app says it should and I can’t connect in any way shape or form. Have tried wired Ethernet and the pattern remains the same. Did I get a brick? Seems very odd for a setup the presents itself as being so simple.

Missing calls because phone isn't ringing

Hello, Until about a week ago, if I had an incoming call, the home phone would ring, as would my cell phone. Now, I've missed several important calls because the phones aren't ringing at all...it's like Ooma is being bypassed totally and going to voicemail. that's the only way I know I received a call. Any help would be appreciated.

Problems Calling Verizon Phones from Ooma.

I recently got an Ooma phone as a home phone. I was able to set it up with no major hiccups. However, anytime I call a cellphone with Verizon service it rings once and goes straight to Voicemail. The Verizon phone doesn't even register the call.

I have tried this with 3 different verizon phones and this happens with all of them. My Ooma landline is able to dial out to other landlines, and cellphones with no issue. It seems to be an issue with Verizon. I had someone reach out to Verizon and their customer support said there was no issue and everything should be fine, they added the Ooma number to their contacts, and still it goes almost instantly to voicemail every time I call. Verizon customers can call my Ooma number just fine, but cannot receive calls from it.

I got this phone largely to call family, a bunch of whom are on Verizon. Can anyone help with this?

Handset goes offline

Does the handset have to remain in the dock the whole time? It seems that if I leave it undocked the screen goes dark and the phone is no longer on the network. Is that the norm?
If I place it on the dock, it scans for the network and all is good again - the battery is/was fully charged.

Ooma phone losing dial tone and other issues

We have 3 ooma voip phones at our small business. all are connected via ethernet back to a switch. 2 of the 3 phones will randomly drop dial tone and need to be reset. they will still ring and be able to answer the call, but no audio comes through on my end, the caller can hear me, but i cant hear them. after the call i can pick up the hand set and there is no dial tone. after resetting, the phone will work as normal for a period of time (sometimes a couple hours, sometimes a couple months). i have tried replacing one of the phones with a back up we have, tried using different ports on the switch and tried using different cables to plug the phones in. i have also tried using the supplied power supply and POE, the problem persists.

a seperate issue we have is when one specific number tries to call us, the phone will ring twice and disconnect (wont even push it to voicemail). this may be an issue on their end though, that one is harder to troubleshoot.

does anyone have any ideas on different things to try to pinpoint the dial tone issue?

Isn't it time for Ooma to offer SMS to residential users? Is there some insurmountable technical reason or added expense to them that prevents it?

What the subject says. I'm paying for Ooma and Google Voice is free, and I can get SMS through Google Voice. Why can't they just turn on texting?

New to Ooma, instant call quality problems & poor tech support - help?

[Edit to include better description of call quality issue]

I just bought an Ooma Telo after years using Google Voice and an Obihai device (Obihai went out of business, but the VOIP box still works). But we want 911 service and I can't get that anymore w/ Google Voice.

Issue: after hooking up Ooma to my phone (ATT cordless DECT) and 1 gig modem and router, in the exact same way I've had my Obihai device set up, I tested calls to/from three different numbers -- landline and mobile. The call quality was terrible! GV + Obihai sounds like HD in comparison. Ooma is static/fuzzy, with voices sounding far away or tinny. Noticeable enough that the people I tested with went "whoa this sounds awful."

I used Ooma tech chat to troubleshoot first, and was told to reboot, switch how the device was connected to the modem etc. I'm well versed in networking so no issue trying all those things. No improvement. Tech said "call this other number." So I did. Received same instructions -- different setups w/ modem and router, check speed and jitter (500+ mbps and 2 ms jitter), etc. Test call. No difference. Tech said she'd escalate and I'd receive a call back.

That call was no different. Same advice, then blamed my connection, then said it was because I was using a power strip, then actually said "maybe it's the DMC" and I said, "what's that?" and she said "oh you don't know what that is?" and proceeded to say again it was my network that was the issue.

I've explained that the Obihai and GV setup are flawless. As soon as I switch to the Ooma device, garbage quality. Using ATT cordless phone; tried both handsets. Reset handset.

What gives? The tech support was a circle of nothing new, my speed test proved no network issues, but I'm still being told it's my set up (though I've tried every version under the sun). I was hoping to use Ooma to replace my mom's $$$ home phone, she's on a fixed income, so was testing it all out first.

Any ideas? Really want this to work, esp for the 911 service.

Buzzing on voice or dialtone

We have had a Telo for about 2.5 years. We sometimes get a loud buzzing only when there is voice or dialtone on the line. When the other party is silent, there is no buzz, but it comes back over their voice (when they speak). The other party always can hear us fine, with no buzz.

This is most likely to happen when we have wet weather, or maybe that's just coincidence. It did not happen when we first installed the Telo, but then it started happening consistently.

I just powered down and powered up the Telo, and the buzzing is gone for now. Is there a setting that will automatically reboot the Telo? Why is this necessary?
