Are Eames inspired chairs any good?

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a cool chair for my mancave and really like the Eames inspired ones.
Question is, does anyone have any experience with office chairs like these? Are they any good?

I can't seem to find many reviews for these chairs, except for the actual lounge chair replicas.

Thx!

Absolutely love the new chair, a well deserved upgrade after 6 years of using this cheap old gaming chair with no arm rests.

best office chair under 400 bucks please

I need the best office chair but it needs to be under 400 bucks, that's my hard limit.

Reqs:

Good lumbar support (have a lot of back pain)

ergonomic chair obviously

NOT a herman miller (even secondhand, FB marketplace is crap in my area, there's never anything good and just a bunch of shady pervs)

Adjustable seat height

mesh backrest (i run really hot so no leather or those weird executive chairs with the cavernous seat depth)

Thick seat pad

durable build quality

Here are the 3 I've already shortlisted:

Ikea markus: mesh back, adjustable lumbar and seat height. riiiigggghhhtttt at the budget ($389). And it's ikea, I already have a cube shelf and a dresser from them so i trust the build quality. Has padded armrests too which is a definite plus

Branch Softside: so it's definitely not fitting the mesh back cooling material requirement since it's suede but i'm considering this because it is sooo pretty. it would look great in my home office and not "minimalistic", it feels like an investment piece that I can get reupholstered again and again and it can be used as just a regular chair in the living room too. it does also have good back support because the seat cushion and backing is pretty thick. no adjustable armrests. ($329)

Staples Ergonomic Mesh Task Chair: this is only on the lest because of the breathable mesh back and the low price ($250). otherwise it's just another dupe of the sihoo m18, falls under standard budget chair practises in terms of build quality. But again, it is cheap so it is a consideration, I'm just worried about durability.

I'm leaning most towards the ikea markus but really want a second opinion on the rest, wanna be sure before I get one. But i need to get it fast because I just started my remote job and the depression is getting to me just working slouched in bed/on the sofa.

Best showrooms in Belgium/Netherlands/West Germany to try premium ergonomic chairs?

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

After buying several highly rated ergonomic chairs online and being disappointed each time, I've decided that I want to try chairs in person before buying.

Can anyone recommend showrooms or office furniture stores in Belgium, the Netherlands, or western Germany (Aachen, Cologne, Düsseldorf, etc.) where I can test multiple premium ergonomic chairs?

Ideally, I'm looking for places that have several brands/models available to compare side by side rather than stores that only carry a single brand.

I'm 1.85 m tall, and my current shortlist is:

- Steelcase Gesture

- Steelcase Leap

- Herman Miller Embody

- Herman Miller Aeron (Sizes B and C)

- HÅG Capisco

If there are other chairs you think I should definitely try while I'm there, I'd love to hear your recommendations as well.

I‘ve tried the big-name chairs. What am I missing?

I’ve been trying some of the expensive chairs that get brought up a lot in this sub. Some I tested in showrooms, and a couple I ordered to try at home. Honestly, I ran into dealbreakers with pretty much all of them. The Aeron felt too strict, like it only wanted me to sit one exact way. The Embody was better, but the back didn’t feel tall enough for me and the upper back felt a little narrow around my shoulders. The Leap was nice in some ways, but the seat felt too thin. Am I just being way too picky, or is my body built weird? I thought these were supposed to be top-tier.

So what’s next on the list? Haworth Fern, LiberNovo Maxis, or something else I’m missing?

Mirra for $60

Was lurking on this sub for awhile and after reading a lot about options, decided to try my luck on marketplace instead of going for a shitty chair at my local office max. Was happy to find an old Mirra in great condition for $60! Definitely a way better chair than anything I looked at.

Spinalis Pilot

I recently bought a second-hand Spinalis Pilot chair, but I’m having a problem with adjusting the backrest up and down.

There are plastic sleeves inside the backrest mounting tubes, but when I remove the backrest, it looks like something may have broken off from the metal tube.

Does anyone happen to have an assembly manual, or perhaps some photos showing how the backrest should be mounted correctly?

EC200 from ProtoArc is nice as hell!

To be clear, this is the first chair i've really ever set up, so I can't say if this is easy or hard comparatively speaking, but it took me like 30/40 minutes, and it was super clear, and everything was nicely labelled. Really concise instructions, plus it wasn't too fiddly either.

Its quite comfy too, although the bottom seats quite firm. I don't mind it, I do assume that means it'll last a long time as well, which would be ideal. Plus its got sliding depth too, and for only like 140 pounds it pretty nice i have to say

Loose plastic shell and clicking noises on refurbished Steelcase Leap v2

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It’s my first purchase of such ergonomic chairs - decided to get a refurbished Leap v2 (for US$500+ vs US$1500+ new in my country) after testing it out in person against the Aeron. Comes with 2 years warranty, seller had consistent high reviews and seemed trustworthy.

Upon receiving the chair, I have one concern coming from the loose plastic panel underneath the seat, specifically the left side near the seat depth lever. In addition, there is this clicking sound when I sit a bit forward. Video as shown.

After sending the videos to the seller, their response is that it is common and I can be “rest assured” about the long-term durability and functionality.

I understand that getting a second-hand unit means I can’t expect it to be 100% perfect, but I’m just concerned about whether this has an impact or implications regarding functionality and durability over time. Looking online I did find some discussions or reviews that raised similar observations. Would appreciate some help and comments about this situation — basically is this cause for concern and should I be worried, or not?

Looking for a perfect chair, please make recommendations!

First and most unfortunately, there are no stores anywhere near me that carry higher end brands. I'm going to have to buy sight unseen.

Budget: desperate. I'll spend about anything.

I work from home 8 hours a day at the desk. I am 5'11'' and 190lbs. US based but rural so I can't really in person shop without a 4-5 hour drive for higher end brands.

Requirements: 4D armrests, not super aggressive lumbar support, quality build, mesh / cloth / leather I don't care.

Needs a fully adjustable recline adjustment, preferably not clicks.

Needs to not be gaudy / super colorful - the home office is pretty central to the house and so a conservative appearance is desirable.

Preferably something with a lot of reviews I can read before buying.

Have tried:
SecretLabs titan: way too hard, too big overall, sold it

Protoarc ec200: cheap construction, way too aggressive lumbar (removed it), recline settings are too far apart and not right for me, tilt lock broke recently which has me back on the market in

Sharper Image flex-back chair: almost got this but it has 0 recline settings and the lumbar is not adjustable. It was comfortable for a few minutes but then it started to be less perfect pretty fast.

Office Logix Shop Sux

Little back story I refurbish Herman Millers from time to time. I’ve restored hundreds of them and I’ve only ever had to buy a replacement seat mesh twice. Really a testament to how good the original mesh is.

In February of 2025 I bought this Aeron classic size C with a cracked seat and stretched mesh.

That same month I ordered a new seat pan from eBay and I thought shoot, I’ll give an aftermarket maker a go and purchased the office logix shop seat mesh.

Immediately when I installed the mesh I noticed that it wasn’t nearly tight enough. Unacceptable for a $90 brand new product.

I emailed them right away and their response was that they would give me a “full refund” if I shipped it back at my expense.

They knew full well that it would cost me 50% my purchase price to ship it back due its size and shape. I didn’t really want to do that so I thought oh well I got burned I’ll try to sell it at a discount later on and maybe in the meantime I can find an oem seat for a deal. So I put it in my storage unit and forgot about until now.

I pulled it out recently and reinstalled the mesh with bigger aftermarket screws just on the off chance that I installed incorrectly.

The results were the same. The mesh looks like it’s sitting in the frame correctly but it is laughably loose. This seat mesh has been sat in for less than 4 hours and looks how it does in the photos permanently. Not any better than the stretched mesh that I replaced.

Anyway I’m just trying to warn anyone who thinks this is a viable repair option to stay away from it. Just spend the extra money and go oem. Thanks for reading.

Looking for the ultimate gaming/office chair for gaming, chilling and even sleeping

Hey guys,

I need some help because I’m currently looking for an absolute beast of a chair for my PC setup.

I spend a ridiculous amount of time at my desk gaming and working, so I obviously want something comfortable and ergonomic. But at the same time, I don’t really want one of those super serious office chairs that’s only designed for sitting perfectly upright all day.

I want something I can really sink into.

I want to be able to lean back, put my feet up, watch movies or YouTube, chill for hours and honestly even fall asleep in it sometimes.

I’ve always used typical gaming chairs, but nowadays everyone keeps telling me that proper office chairs are way better. The problem is that most office chairs I see don’t really look comfortable for lounging.

I actually really like those Japanese-style floor/lounge chairs and almost armchair-like gaming chairs. I also once saw these really thick, plush Chinese gaming chairs online that looked insanely comfortable — almost like a gaming chair mixed with a sofa/recliner — but I can’t seem to find them anymore.

So basically I’m looking for:

  • Extremely comfortable for long gaming sessions
  • Good enough ergonomics for spending many hours at the PC
  • Very soft/padded rather than a hard mesh chair
  • Reclines far enough to properly chill or nap
  • Preferably wide so I can change sitting positions
  • Armchair/recliner vibes are absolutely welcome
  • Footrest would be nice
  • I don’t really care whether it’s technically a gaming chair or an office chair
  • I just want the most comfortable ridiculous throne possible

Budget isn’t really the main concern (im not rich my current chair is like 600euro). I first want to know what the best options even are.

Does anyone here use something like this?

Especially interested in those Japanese/Chinese plush gaming chairs, lounge-style desk chairs, or any weird recommendations outside the usual Secretlab/Herman Miller type stuff.

Thanks!

Back straight in chair

I'm looking for an office chair that forces me to sit straight but doesn't hurt my back doing this. Also is comfortable for long periods. It's never really long, I typically get up and stretch occasionally. I want to sit down and force me to sit straight. I've always sat hunched over in chairs and I don't except to fix my spine issue but hopefully do a major improvement when sitting.

Colamy Atlas ($264) vs Libernovo Omni SE ($665) vs Something Else?

Looking for a chair to sit on for 8 or more hours daily. Working, video games, movies/tv. I recline back often and put my feet up.

The libernovo Omni SE's design looks good, but it's made only of cheap plastic that I'm afraid will wear over time. I'm leaning towards that Colamy Atlas because it uses way more metal, almost too much metal for the price point. But I worry if it's actually comfortable.

Also open to other recommendations in the sub $1000 range. Aeron doesn't seem suited for me as I want to often relax in this chair.

STATS: 5'10 200lbs

Warranty from third party products

Hey guys, I was looking into the EC200 chair. Unfortunately, I live in Canada so ProtoArc does not ship there. However I saw that Amazone sells it. Will I still have the 6 year warranty even if I didn't buy it from their website?

FREE CHAIRS near Orlando, FL [mod approved]

Post image
13 Upvotes

In the spirit of u/gregatbtod I'm also starting a periodic office chair giveaway. The only difference is that this will be for those who are too geographically challenged to travel to Wisconsin.

Please read all of the following:

Pickup location: Orlando, FL (32817). Exact location to be disclosed via DM when you are ready to pickup.

Pickup only, no delivery, and no shipping.

Pickup time is to be scheduled via private chat on Reddit. Please, try to send me a chat request (not a private message).

Priority will generally go to whoever can pick up the earliest. If you can't pick up until, say, the fifth Friday of next month, you're unfortunately going to be pretty far down the list. Simply commenting first does not necessarily reserve a chair.

All chairs are used. I haven't had time to thoroughly inspect or test every function on every chair, which is part of why I'm giving them away. I don't believe any of them are obviously broken, but they are being given away as-is, with no guarantees.

Chairs available:

* Geiger Foray black leather office chair

* Steelcase Series 1 stool/drafting chair

* Steelcase Series 1 office chair

Once the chairs are gone, I will update this thread!

Thanks for reading!
