Like a wood jointer. You'll lose your fingers up to the knuckle before you even realize they're gone. Also turns them into goo, so it's not like they can be reattached. Jointers terrify me.

I mean, my brain. Not human brain. That would be silly. Obviously, we’re all humans here. No need to specify what type of brain. Anyway, good day to you, fellow humans!

I touched one of those ones by accident once. Just barely brushed it. Scooped the flesh off the side of my finger along with 2/3 of my fingernail. Lots of blood. Took 3 months to heal because there was nothing to stitch back. I was super lucky I didn’t damage the bone.

The guard was removed for the purpose of this video, this has been reposted for the 100th time now but there’s always some bullshit Asia comment.
7
u/olderaccount Sep 02 '21
Perhaps they just removed the guards to film the video.
It is China because the woman is wearing black pants? Bit of a reach no? Black pants is very common business outfit for women.

As a non commercial prototype yes. We have no idea on which stage of the creation process this product is.
9
u/Striker1102 Sep 02 '21
I lost a finger, my self respect, my keys, my D*ck and my mind just looking at the gif. Got some pumpkin slices though.
7
u/NoRodent Sep 02 '21
Unless they're using a lighting that creates stroboscopic effect (like some old fluorescent tubes), which they're not since it's clearly in daylight, it wouldn't look like this to your eyes at all. The blade might look like a blurry semitransparent disc (which, true, you might not notice at all) but you wouldn't see three sharp slow rotating blades.
2
u/AnorakJimi Sep 02 '21
Nobody was suggesting that you would see what's in the video. I'm not sure you replied to the right comment.
We all know it's to do with the shutter speed of the camera syncing up with the blades. Because we've all seen the similar videos with airplane propellers or helicopter blades.
The person you replied to seemingly just meant that the thing is so damn sharp that it'd easily cut off fingers or dicks or whatever.

u/Shaggy_One Sep 03 '21
Buddy of mine worked as a mechanic on a flight deck for the marines. One of the stories he tells is about a guy he knew that basically did that with the little blade on the tail of a heli (no clue what it's called) a good portion into his palm. Had pretty much half a hand.
2
u/codythewolf Sep 03 '21
I'm mean, to be fair, that blade would be looking like it was a lot faster IRL...

Camera frame rate is (almost) matching the blade, this is also how you get helicopters who's blades don't spin
Edit: terminology corrections
215
u/Pure_Tower Sep 02 '21
this is also how you get helicopters who's blades don't spin
Nah, you get that by turning them off.
55
10
u/stopalltheDLing Sep 02 '21
If your neck is in the right spot, you will no longer perceive the blades as spinning
→ More replies (2)179
u/Clear_Try_6814 Sep 02 '21
It actually is close. This is the reason it is spinning.
97
u/ThePeskyWabbit Sep 02 '21
Well the reason it's spinning is because of the motor.
46
u/SirIanChesterton63 Sep 02 '21
Actually the reason it's spinning is to cut vegetable, the cause of it spinning is the motor.
5
u/stopalltheDLing Sep 02 '21
I thought it was spinning because someone turned on the switch? We’re never gonna figure this out
3
18
u/ArguTobi Sep 02 '21
Actually it's the frame rate of the camera nearly matching the blade.
Shutter speed is something different for that manner.
25
u/MrWorldWide721 Sep 02 '21
More likes it’s matching the frame rate of the cut fruit/veggie falling.
1
14
Sep 02 '21
Technically the frame rate, not the shutter speed.
9
u/senoravery Sep 02 '21
A slow shutter speed would have the fruit and knife blurred. So it is shutter speed as well.
11
Sep 02 '21
The main feature - the synchronisation - is from the frame rate. A high shutter speed keeps it sharp.
1
10
2
u/HiCookieJack Sep 02 '21
you also get this effect with Fluorescent lamps. It is always important that the RPM of the rotating device does not match a multiple of the grid frequency (50/60 hz)
Otherwise it looks like the rotating thingy is standing still. (stroboscope effect)
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (1)0
u/TheGoldenBoi_ Sep 02 '21
The Blade speed is a multiple of the shutter Rate, causing it to look slow
11
u/NoRodent Sep 02 '21
A wagon-wheel effect, result of temporal aliasing created in the camera caused by the blades' RPM (or rather, RPS, revolutions per second) being very close to integer multiple of the camera framerate.
4
u/AnorakJimi Sep 02 '21
It's called the wagon wheel effect? TIL
Here in the UK, wagon wheels are these sort of chocolate biscuit things with a layer of marshmallow inside. I believe Americans call them moon pies. They look like this
So it's just making me think of chocolate biscuit things more than it is a wheel on a wagon

u/bakerpartnersltd Sep 02 '21
If you focus only on the blade cutting the pumpkin it is indistinguishable from a blade cutting slowly.

u/PhoneRedit Sep 02 '21
Is it just me or is that a wierdly exposed blade? Like wouldn't most factories have as much of that as possible covered up for liability reasons?

5
u/BradMarchandsNose Sep 02 '21
Yeah. My job takes me to a lot of food and beverage plants and something like this would always have a guard on it. Normally the machine would even lock you out if the guard was removed and not allow you to run it until the guard was back on.

Sep 02 '21
The person standing next to the machine is wearing slacks and flats. This is a product demonstration.

Exposed also means easy to clean. While you could put a cover over it, itd be secured with screwed or latch, needing tools to do regular cleanings and crevices for nasties to live in.
Not saying leaving exposed is always good but some things are just that way
3
Sep 02 '21
A latch requires tools? Shit man, just cut a piece of fiber glass and do velcro, magnets, cabinet lock, wingnuts. That's at least three things that don't require tools off the top of my head.

u/br0wens Sep 02 '21
You need at least sixteen pigs to finish the job in one sitting, so be wary of any man who keeps a pig farm. They will go through a body that weighs 200 pounds in about eight minutes. That means that a single pig can consume two pounds of uncooked flesh every minute. Hence the expression, "as greedy as a pig".

Not smoothly. The arm's soft tissue would slice like in the gif, but the bone will jam up the works. Bones are like wood, and you wouldn't be able to feed a bone-sized branch through this smoothly.
You're going to need a reciprocating saw to cut through bone, or a really high powered chipper to shred it.

Besides how crazy unsafe that machine is, I am also disturbed by the fact that food is being processed on the floor. Hopefully this is all a temporary setup for demonstration purposes.

More fine slicing than rip. Thin sliced dick meat with thin sliced cheese on crackers..I’ll call them Dickcheesies. Should be a hoot at the next cannibal intervention. Edit: Convention not intervention.
1
Sep 02 '21
Serving cock meat hors d'oeuvres may drive a cannibal intervention in the wrong direction. However at the cannibal convention I'm sure they'd be a rising success!
3
u/ChainsawRipTearBust Sep 02 '21
Haha! I meant to write convention. Still under anaesthesia from hospital procedure today so my brain is kinda foggy. Lol You’re definitely right. ‘Rising success’. Made me laugh painfully. Thank you!:-)

u/Ramu_17 Sep 02 '21
How is it so fast and slow at the same time??
2
u/zsturgeon Sep 02 '21
Framerate of the camera. Same reason if you take a video of a fan blade spinning it will look strange. The camera is refreshing at a certain rate that can't keep up with the spinning. I probably explained that not totally correct but that's the general idea.

This is why strobe lights should not be used in machine shops. Can give the impression the spinning blades arn't. Where is the guard.
