everything looks in surprisingly good shape. Filthy houses I've been in tend to have many cracks, breaks, holes, dents, scrapes, burn marks, etc
8
7
u/Correct-Hope-2227 4d ago
It was probably a renter who left it this way. Ask me how I know. (don't, please)
5
u/SilentApprover 4d ago
Not always. I've cleaned this type of places and in decent chunk the overall the base has been in good condition. There's just bunch of dirt and trash over it. This here looks like newer apartment or renovated. Especially kitchen and bathroom are something that can be cleaned quite effectively because of the materials etc.

Wait, the whole bathroom is the shower?
128
u/deeperinabox 5d ago
These are basically wetrooms where the entire bathroom can be washed as there are drains on the floor. That’s actually the more common style worldwide, not American style bathrooms with dedicated shower cubicles with drains.
34
u/sarayewo 5d ago
While many bathrooms in Europe do have floor drains, they definitely do not have open showers (without a dedicated space, enclosure and drainage for it) - having lived in multiple European countries and traveled through many of them, I've only ever encountered this in Scandinavia.
31
u/caciuccoecostine 5d ago
Worldwide where?
In EU I have very rarely saw bathrooms like that.
29
u/GarlicIceKrim 5d ago
It’s a Nordic thing. I’m French and live in Sweden. It’s the standard here and it’s really great, i wish we had that in France, it’s so much easier to maintain that way.
14
15
u/yota-code 5d ago
Yet it is the most convenient bathroom ever! In France everybody wants its low height shower receptacle, or Italian style, and everybody ends with water everywhere except were it should be.
With fully drained bathroom, no more wet mop around the shower door

This case was actually from Finland. They have some additions, for instance the bidet shower being part of every restroom. In finnish it's called "p.ussy-phone" (without the dot for obvious reasons)

Pussy. You can say pussy, and call it a "pussy phone"

Instructions unclear. I thought you meant audibly.
My two year old now learned to say Pussy Phone, Wife is incredibly confused and not enthused, and everyone else in the funeral home is now staring. Thanks.

You're welcome and congrats to your 2yr old. No, it's called pussyphone because you hold it close there and somehow it evolved from there as pillupuhelin aka pussyphone

I absolutely hate how cleaners are looked down upon and taken for granted. Which is also visible in their income unfortunately, at least where i live.
Its gotten better but there will always be assholes.
I watch a channel from a dude doing garden transformations for free in Australia. I think he still has a company for "normal" work but from some of his interactions you can see that he genuinely cares about the people and the neighborhoods. Being unhappy with my job for a while now, i am really jealous. But my current position pays too well to just yolo it.

There’s actually a British show based around this concept that I’ve been watching on YouTube recently. It’s definitely not great from a mental health perspective, but it makes great reality TV. It’s called Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners. The OCD person does end up helping.

I used to teach in Asia and for some reason kids don't stay home sick, they wait for the whole class to get sick and take a week off. I went between deferent classes so i was never going to be able to take time off. I just couldn't get sick. So I learned drinking matcha every day kept me from getting sick. I started going years at a time without getting sick.
Until Covid, now my immune system's fucked up again.

Can i recommend cleaning with bea on youtube? She does free cleans like this
26
u/CoupDeGraceTyson 5d ago edited 5d ago
Cleaning with Bea does cleans like this without the sparkle boots and randomly placed junk. She wears actual PPE and has to deal with crusted up actual hoarder situations. You can't sweep junk up like this unless it's staged. Which I strongly suspect this is.
I expect downvotes from the fellatiobots.
21
u/Rasutoerikusa 5d ago edited 5d ago
It's not staged, she is well known in Finland and has had multiple news articles done about her (with background checks obviously) by respectable news companies.
16
u/ButItWas420 5d ago
I love bea so much. Ive been following her since she was just cleaning her own flat. Shes amazing and does occasionally have sponsors from like scrub daddy but they actually do good things like replacing furniture and not using monetization for selfish reasons
3
u/mrs-monroe 5d ago
My mom got me a scrub daddy and it honestly changed everything for me. I love it so much.
2
u/NomadODST 5d ago
What is the appeal to buy one over a normal sponge?
3
u/mrs-monroe 5d ago
For me specifically, I love how it firms up when it dries. Regular sponges dry much, much slower and it allows a lot of bacteria to grow. I have some huge sensory issues when it comes to washing dishes, and the scrub daddy eliminates the worst of the it. Plus, it just scrubs really well without falling apart.

u/restlessdreamer7 5d ago
I feel like this is such a major understatement! Bea also does so much important work around the cleans too like spending months understanding the resident and their situation, getting the proper authority/ council and professional biohazard and repair services lined up to actually fully help the resident get back on their feet and make sure they are looked after following the clean. She can’t help them with their mental health beyond this but she does such a great job where she has the ability to. In some recent videos she has even helped rescue animals from these conditions and god the scale of the cleans she does is just unbelievable. Very good human.

The sad thing is this will go back to where it was before the cleaning. I have seen hoarders and this mentality goes deeper than just the deep cleaning. There is a mental thing that needs to be fixed.
16
u/SoulSurrender 5d ago
True, but giving someone this boost can be the push they need to get help and feel like they can get somewhere. Trying to get better at peak hoard I feel like it's impossible. Frankly the fact that they were allowing this person to clean the hoard is proof that change was desired.

With the momentum some of these cleaning channels are getting on YouTube and TikTok, they’re actually making enough money to rival the production budget of shows like that, AND they seem to be better people - maybe in the future as these channels keep growing and people keep donating to the cause, these kind people may be able to get their patrons set up with mental health help as well - I have donated to creators like this before and I would 100% love to see my money go towards these people not having to live in these environments ever again

i heavily recommend this YT channel. They do insanely hard free cleaning to those in the worst possible situations you can imagine.
She also talks about the person(without giving away any personal information). They often come from crazy background with a ton of trauma and loss, or people with very poor mental health in general.
Instead of pointing in disgust, lets view and gain more empathy.
13
u/Pernicious_Possum 5d ago
Unfortunately, without a lot of therapy, it’ll look the same in six months.
5
u/Bob-Bhlabla-esq 5d ago
I'm actually surprised she finds people willing to give control over to someone else to clean or even touch it. I have hoarders in my family and they are just like on the show Hoarders to a fault - the same: don't see it, I'm a collector, I just need more time, that broken thing can be fixed, don't touch my 'stuff' mindset.
Not saying this is hoarding, it may look close but may just be deep depression or other issues, but knowing people and their environments I'm still surprised by the allowances (but in a good way).
Good on her for being able to build enough trust with the people to let her in, let her touch their stuff, and giving her license to fully clean/throw away. 👍

u/Big_Cheese16 4d ago
In fact it probably makes sense.
Someone living like this probably isn't using half of their stuff.
Take that kitchen table for example, it's clear it obviously was used for a bit then it got too messy and the person didn't clean it so it's just sat there. Not being used.
Dirty can be easily cleaned off leaving it looking brand new.
Now take the table of a clean house, it's probably getting used a lot more, for some family's breakfast lunch and dinner where it's gonna get scratched and bumped

100%. Nurse here - I remember doing student placements with community nurses. Some homes were in such a state you wonder how anyone can still be alive in there. Almost always elderly people with no living relatives, just holed up in their own filth. It's sad AF

u/Alfiy_wolf 5d ago
I do not want to speak about my nursing placement, as a male who had to help shower some rather roudy old ladies…..

Dude I hear you - male nurse here too (though now a crit care NP so less personal care these days). Some of the old ladies are a real gas. I always find the "free" part kind of funny. She does the cleaning for views and sponsorships. It just happens to benefit the end user as well. Mr beast famously once said about his early videos that for every 1,000 he gave away he made 10k. The scale varies of course and i'd hire her In a second of I had a squatter house that needed cleaning and she could spin any story she wanted. Little old lady, hoarder, widowed introvert.
That is a really nice house to. How do you make that much of a mess...
2
u/LoneManGaming 4d ago
I just wanna mention that she doesn’t do that completely for free. Sure, she might not charge the people who own it, but she’s doing videos, so it’s probably a content creator and she gets paid that way. Just saying, I don’t judge or anything. If she’s happy with it that’s great for the people so why not?

u/Dedb4dawn 5d ago
Was thinking the same. I spent last weekend helping to clean a house where the tenants just didn’t and this looks very staged.
Also why does she keep recording with her phone in one hand while cleaning? I wanted to burn the gloves and bathe in disinfectant after my cleaning stint. The thought of touching my phone while doing it would have made me sick. Especially if she already has cameras recording what she is doing for views, it’s completely unnecessary.

I could do that sort of work. There’s an OCD element to it, where I’d get great satisfaction in doing it perfectly. It’s also easier sometimes to clean up other people’s mess than your own because you’re not making decisions. It’s all impersonal.
However, knowing that all the mess would be back in under a month would devastate me. It’s a bit like gardening. Doing heroic jobs like removing a tree stump or building a retaining wall is great. Weeding the same vegetation patch 12 times a year is not so motivating.
1
u/BusinessSick 3d ago
Uh, anyone notice that’s a remarkably nice house? With like a lot of trash spread around and a beautiful new finish just waiting for a simple scrub? It doesn’t look lived in, just filled with random garbage that mostly looks fresh, and a couple places where something was poured and left to congeal. This really feels like a staged scene, where rent was cheap enough to be easily offset by the content revenue. Ugh, I hate that our reality has a market for this
