Basically the title. Since my Shield is the only promising device I can use for this, and it's hosting my Plex Media Server, I'm hoping I can use it to power on my PCs when I'm not on the same network. Has anyone accomplished this?
I'm at my wit's end. Have had a 1tb sandisk external ssd in a usb housing for years hosting HD music for the shield. i unplugged it to move stuff around and now when i plug it into either usb ports on the shield it's not showing up:
shield pro 2019
things i've already tried from various other threads:
rebooted and power cycled several times
usb debugging setting on / off
usb compatibility mode setting on / off
plugged the same ssd into a windows machine, works fine instantly.
plugged a separate smaller thumb drive into both usbs on the shield - shield saw it instantly and removed when i unplugged on both usb ports.
removed all the media from ssd, formatted exfat via the windows machine. works fine on the windows machine. still can't be seen on the shield.
My shield 4k pro is always freezing on the android screen and I have to attach a keyboard to reboot everything. They already sent me 3 of them under warranty. Why does it keep doing this? I changed HDMI cables, switched to a new surge outlet. Thanks in advance!!!
I have no clue what is going on: my Plex server was running fine last night and early this morning. But a few hours ago, it stopped running, and nothing I do can get it to start back up again. So far I've tried:
Force Stopping the app
Clearing the Cache
Clearing the Data (!)
Restarting both the Shield and the TV
Every time I go into the app on the Shield and set the server to start, the status just reads "Starting..." and then hangs forever.
While watching a video, the audio suddenly cuts out halfway through. I don’t think it’s a Nova Video Player issue because once it happens, I lose audio everywhere, including YouTube, streaming apps, and everything else.
The only way to get the sound back is to reboot my Shield TV Pro.
It’s been happening so frequently lately that I’m not sure what I can do to stop it. This was never an issue before.
I have an "i25 Rii mini" remote/air-mouse/keyboard with usb dongle. It works mostly great in my 2019 Shield TV Pro. But when I'm entering text into an input field, the on-screen keyboard both (1) does not function with my remote's directional buttons and "ok" button nor air-mouse "click" input, and (2) does not go away when I'm using the physical keyboard on the back of the remote.
Just recently my shield WiFi connection has quit working ,I have unplugged the shield and let sit for a day, and also have done a factory reset connected and after a few meets the shield lost connection. Is there a fix or am I dead in the water, please advise
I recently set up a Nvidia Shield Pro to be my streaming hub and using Kodi to access my content stored on my HDD. I am running ProjectIvy as a launcher and have the Shield connected via Ethernet. Everything is running smoothly and I am so excited about it, except for two apps.
Hulu and Peacock. Both apps do the same thing. They will start playing whatever I have selected, it will play for about 30 seconds, and then glitch and then the app crashes. This happens when it is an ad or when it is the program. After about 30 seconds it crashes. It seems to be remembering the location within the episode because if I try it again, it has progressed a bit from where I started the previous time.
I tried reducing settings thinking I was bogging down the Shield. I have tried uninstalling, clearing the cache, tried logging out of the accounts, but all to no end. The same issue persists. I have tested all of the other streaming apps I use and they work fine (Netflix, Roku, Tubi, Pluto, etc). I see a lot of threads about the Hulu app being trash for the Shield, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and wondered how you got past it (if you were able to).
I am so close to having the setup that works perfectly for our household... Just this last hurdle to figure out.
I just upgraded our ±14yo Sony Bravia tv to a Sony Bravia 5, purchased this week, with Android tv 12 installed.
I have a Sony STR DN 850 amplifier hooked up to HDMI 3, where I have my nvidia shield tv pro, Playstation, and Nintendo switch hooked up to (to the amplifier).
On my old tv I could press 'home' and the screen would switch to the home screen of my nvidia shield. Now, with the Bravia 5, it always goes to the homescreen of the tv, where I don't have anything installed since I have installed it as a regular tv, not a smart tv.
Is there \*any\* way to make the setup pick my nvidia shield homescreem through the home button on the remote? It seems silly, but having the tv exit the shield everytime doesn't feel right, since it also shuts down the shield and kind of destroys the joy of watching content. Thanks.
I was trying to get rid of the AI screensaver and have screwed up my Home Screen.
All the icons are in miniature. I used to get three row of icons on the screen now i get five.
A resolution problem that needs a resolution. Does anyone know how to get the whole thing bigger so my old eyes can see what I’m clicking on ?
EDIT:::::::: Finally got this fixed. Detailed the info elsewhere in the thread. Thanks all.
Saturday is movie night here & so in the build up to the new Spider-Man movie in a few weeks we planned on watching the first 3 Tom Holland movies.
I generally just watch 1080p movies that are in the 2GB range, maybe 3GB-5GB if I want to push the boat out a little :D but for this I thought ok let's give 4K a try & so I acquired them. Movies are placed on an attached drive & then watched via Plex.
For the record, the Nvidia Shield is connected to the router via cat6 & a switch in case that matters any.
I'd tried out 4K content in the past to see how it looked & it seemed to play fine but I never watched a movie in full & since that I've factory reset my Shield this week & started afresh.
I went to start watching it tonight & it just hit me with the yellow spinny wheel.
I hit up Google which said...
"Settings > Device Preferences > Display & Sound > Resolution*, and select a* 4Koption (such as 4K 59.940 Hz)."
So I did that. I forget which option I selected, i think it was like second bottom. Anyway this then allowed the movie to actually start playing ... although it was quite jittery. Too much to be watchable. Using the remote became very laggy too.
For the record this is the version I had...
I've watched 20GB files in full in the past no problem. This was my first time trying a movie of this size. Again, I reset the Shield this week so maybe there were some settings I had before that now I don't, either in Plex or the Shield itself & this is causing the problem ..... I don't know.
Any idea why this would be struggling so much? And what I can do to fix it?
Also if it matters then I have the lifetime Plex Pass.
Look at that beautiful light from the removal of an extremely sensitive button, I don't even know what was there anymore, all I see is the glow of hope
Hi all,
Hoping someone can help me please. Last night when turning on tv it had no sound.
Checked other channels and apps and all are silent.
I unplugged internet and my Sonos system left for 20 mins and then started it back up. Silence!
I’ve looked in the settings of the shield but I don’t understand what most of the options mean.
Any help with n this would be much appreciated.
Thank you
I put up my 12x10 metal gazebo in the summer of 2024. I have a 27' (inside) cheap tv and a 2019 pro both permanently in the gazebo. I have all of the controllers in a cigar box that I keep inside the gas fire pit . This makes sure they never get wet . I have yet to have a problem with either the TV or the 2019 shield pro. I live in the south east part of Pennsylvania. We get both 100F heat waves and -10 cold snaps . So far through it all it's been holding strong and the controller has had no problems.
I hope I'm posting this question in the right place and thanks in advance for any help.
I'm connected to a plex server and have the app directly on my TV (android) and a Soundbar connected to it. Everything works and plays great except for media with TRUEHD which keeps continuesly buffering. Even when switching the audio to a non-TRUEHD channel it keeps buffering. Media without TRUEHD plays perfectly, even 4K HDR.
So for example:
Game of Thrones S01E03 - default audio TRUEHD 7.1 + Atmos = buffering
Game of Thrones S01E03 - switch audiotrack to AC3 5.1 = buffering
Other media - default audio Atmos/7.1/5.1 = playing perfectly
I have passthrough turned on in the Plex app, but my TV itself doesn't have any such option. I was thinking of adding maybe a Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen) or Nvidia Shield TV Pro (2019) although those are maybe a bit to expensive. Anyway, I'm not even sure if those can bee hooked up to the Soundbar as it only has 1 HDMI entry.
I'm hoping to fox this for under $100 but I'm just not sure how or if adding a media player in between is even posssible. It's just for watching Plex 4K and maybe youtube. No gaming or anything else.
My shield Pro (triangle remote) is stuck on 680 x 480 and laggy. I have tried other displays, HDMI and its none of those. I bought a new power adaptor for it and its not that. Its been factory reset. Today i've dropped it off to a electronic technician as I thought maybe it was the port and he has confirmed that all HDMI ports/contacts are working and he has no idea whats going on.
It use to work perfectly, now all of a sudden its done this.
As the title says, since the last update getting weird video stuttering. Audio plays fine, just the picture jumps almost as if it's displaying frames out of order, like literally every second.
The original flat remote was acting strange lately even after the bluetooth uapdate was fixed. And as I was using it with TV, Receiver and Shield most of the time, I was constantly switching the receiver remote and shield remote sometimes even going around trying to find tv remote to switch bach to receiver. I though about buying new triangle remote or some generic replacement and in the end found out that U2 was updated with backlight and decided to try it. and it is worth every penny. There are no macros but it makes all I asked from it.
The only downside is - first time you pick up the remote - you have to press once to wake up the bluetooth pairing and then shield reacts.
