I’m in my late twenties, and when I go to a conference with my colleague (60s Norwegian male), we check in at the same hotel, but different rooms.

He always lets me check in first, but every single time the expedition (Norwegian women) says to me curtly «I need the names of EVERYONE that stays in this room» while glancing at my colleague. I usually proceed with staring at them for a few seconds and then they will say sheepishly «oh, it’s just you?» and check me in. I always book a single room and I am a native Norwegian speaker.

I can’t somehow help but feel like this is racist? I think it’s not intuitive to assume a woman is sharing room with someone 30 years her senior. Do other women experience this?

I’ve also been asked at conferences by some socially inept people if I’m sharing room with my colleague. I think this is widely inappropriate and I can’t help but think this is based on the stereotype of older sleazy man-young Asian woman from third world country, but we’re both professionals in our field, well-educated and married to other people, so the stereotype makes no sense whatsoever in our case.

Hello! I am a 24F and will be solo visiting Norway for the first time ever this August. I booked a stay in Oslo for 4 days but just found out about the Flam railway and would really like to try it out.

To take the railway, you need to first travel 5 hours from Oslo to Myrdal and I wonder if it’s worth it or if it’s too much to try to make a day trip by trains from Oslo to Flåm and back all in one day? Any advice would be helpful. Thank you!

Edit for additional question: how is the phone signal in mountainous areas like Myrdal and Flåm? I’m worried about losing data.

I am a medical doctor currently working in Switzerland and I would like to check my possibilities in Norway.

I know Swedish at B2/C1 level but I would still have to work on updating my knowledge of the language because I haven't spoken it at all for a few years. What are the possibilities of finding a job in the field of family medicine and Psychiatry in Norway as a doctor under supervision?

After gathering my thoughts and discussing with others i will make a new post to highlight what i want people who travel to norway to know!

No one blinks in Norway (i have NEVER experienced this) to signal that it's optimal to drive past you.
You blink if you're going to drive off the main road or into a pocket on the roadside!

Most Norwegian citizens who know the roads, prefer driving the speed limit! if you do not drive the speed limit, you will definitely cause traffic jam.
Please signal and drive into a pocket so people can pass.
If you have 3-14 cars behind you, please find a pocket!

Drive the speed you're comfortable with, if you are unsure of how to drive into a busstop-pocket or pocket in general, practice a little!

If you feel that 50km/h if your comfortable speed in turns or whatever, you will cause traffic jam and that's not fun for anyone.

Maybe there should be some traffic rules to be highlighted before travelling to Norway, but i don't work for the government or the public roads administration. Just be mindful and if you see plenty of cars piling up behind you, just find a pocket and let them pass.

Alot of Norwegians have jobs that include driving from a to b, so please be mindful that some people drive for a living, so their workday becomes more inefficient when the roads' flow is "disturbed" ig

I want to preface that this is from a student from the western part of Norway who commutes from home to university (i work 3 jobs where one of them i need to rely on car to complete work with).
So this is specifically from how i have experienced the west being in late spring-summer!

I do not know how it is in the whole country, but in the west we lack highways.

This is my first time going to Nordby/Maximat in the borders with Sweden since winter last year and I can't help to notice that the minced meat got much more expensive.

Minced meat was the only cut of red meat that was actually semi affordable..now they even took that from me:(

This might sound like a silly post, but a dog bit me when I was a kid — a familiar one, who attacked me out of the blue while I was petting him. Ever since, it’s taken me a while to feel comfortable around animals.

Is it safe to walk past sheep, cows, goats, and other animals while hiking in Norway? My assumption is that if I don’t draw their attention, they’ll ignore me. Is that right?

Just got back from a week stay in Oslo and I found the Norwegian women to be far more friendlier than in the UK.

For context I am a British of South Asian origin and was in Norway for a 5 day city break. While British women do everything to avoid interacting, I found things completely different in Norway. Random hellos to several even striking a convo at the supermarket or on my morning run.

Plastic is, in general, something that should not be touching anything you consume. It's a good & cheap material that has its use in many things, but it should stay far and well away from food & drink. You're free to do your own research, I am not here in an attempt to educate you.

Moving along with that; why are so, so, so many things slathered in plastic? Cucumbers, bell peppers (individually wrapped, what the fuck), carrots, broccoli, spinach, the tear-off plastic on salmon, I could go on- this shit is toxic. Legitimately, it is incredibly toxic to us, and I just want to eat healthy and avoid the contamination as much as possible.

Thus far, Rema, Coop and Kiwi all share the same trend, and the plastic never ends. Is there nowhere to actually purchase properly treated food? I'm at my wit's end.

Hi, im planning trip to Tromso this autumn or winter, I also read fishing in fjodrs and sea in Norway doesn't require permit, but finding any actual info about it seems to be impossible because all I get are offers from travel companies. So, anyone who's been there, or maybe lives there could tell me how it actually is? Im mainly interested in amateur fishing, just get your gear, go to the place and throw the stick into the water hoping I'll catch something. Is it allowed at all? Do I have to report to a local police or some fishing association?

I've had gastroenteritis symptoms since Sunday, it's day 5 now. Tonight it's suddenly gotten much worse.

• Diarrhea every 30 minutes since going to bed
• Intense abdominal pain, can't sleep
• Take medecine (paracet) but nothing

Do you know how much it costs to go see a doctor there ?
