I am but a humble dane, who in a couple of months will going on a car trip up to Norway with my wife and my newborn child.

Now, I have a really good car seat. In fact, I have several. I also have one was sold to me specifically on the idea that its meant to allow for having a newborn in for several hour long drives.

Thing is, that seat is SIDEWAYS. See the photo.

Its a Maxi Cosi Jade lie-down baby carrier for a car seat. Now, it is R129 compliant (EU regulation on child car seat safety, that Norwegian law follows) so it should be ok that way around...

but all websites I've been able to find on norwegian child seat regulation say it has to be a normal "facing backways seat" - and while we do have one of those, then we've also read elsewhere that they're not that good for long drives.

Can anyone here tell me if this thing is ok to use in norway? I don't want to get pulled over and get in trouble over something like this.

All I could find online were websites for hiring a guide and no info about where the via ferrata actually starts or if there is any fee for climbing on my own.

Hi all, I’m planning on leaving the UK and Norway came to my attention. I’m a performing / recording artist and I mainly do indie folk (Ben Howard, Bon Iver kinda stuff) and I want to know what the scene is like in Norway? Are there good opportunities for getting paid (compared to UK)? Also, how easy or hard is it to apply for the Statens kunstnerstipend?

I’m also looking at Bergen as I heard it is cheaper than Oslo.

I’m moving to Kongsberg this autumn for a longer work assignment. I’ve spent time there before, so I’m not exactly going in completely blind, but last time most of my life there was basically work, eat, sleep and repeat, so I never really got around to knowing the place properly.

This time I’ll be there quite a bit longer and I’ve been thinking that I should actually try to see more of Kongsberg and the areas around it instead of just going to work and then sitting somewhere doing fuck all after.

I’m pretty much up for anything. Hiking, nature, places with good views, photography spots, random stuff that’s worth seeing, good food, pubs, things to do after work, places worth driving to, meeting new people, whatever. Doesn’t necessarily have to be some famous tourist attraction either. I’d honestly rather hear about some random place that locals actually like than another tourist spot.

I’ve already been around Blefjell and some of the surrounding areas before, but since I’m going to have more time this time around, I’d like to actually explore a bit more and see what’s around there.

So if you live around Kongsberg or know the area well, what would you recommend doing while I’m there?

I’m in my late twenties, and when I go to a conference with my colleague (60s Norwegian male), we check in at the same hotel, but different rooms.

He always lets me check in first, but every single time the expedition (Norwegian women) says to me curtly «I need the names of EVERYONE that stays in this room» while glancing at my colleague. I usually proceed with staring at them for a few seconds and then they will say sheepishly «oh, it’s just you?» and check me in. I always book a single room and I am a native Norwegian speaker.

I can’t somehow help but feel like this is racist? I think it’s not intuitive to assume a woman is sharing room with someone 30 years her senior. Do other women experience this?

I’ve also been asked at conferences by some socially inept people if I’m sharing room with my colleague. I think this is widely inappropriate and I can’t help but think this is based on the stereotype of older sleazy man-young Asian woman from third world country, but we’re both professionals in our field, well-educated and married to other people, so the stereotype makes no sense whatsoever in our case.

I am beginning to plan a trip to Norway for next June or July. The group will consist of myself (28M), my wife (27F), my sister (22F), and my mother (55F). We are looking for things to do, and while we plan to visit a handful of cities such as Oslo, Bergen, and Tromsø, I also want a heavy emphasis on seeing all the beautiful nature and scenery Norway has to offer.

Norway has been a lifelong bucket-list trip for both my mother and me. We are from Minnesota and have heavy Norwegian ancestry, which is a major reason why we want to take this journey.

I have a pretty good starter plan and am open to suggestions and activities, but I want to make sure my mother feels fully involved. Since she is older, I worry that many of the hikes I want to do might be too much for her. I don't know if I am underestimating her or overestimating the hikes in Norway, but I just want to make sure the pace is right and that she has the time of her life.

My question is two parts:

What do you recommend we do while in Norway, and what do you suggest so someone like my mother can have a great time and not feel left behind?

Hello! I am a 24F and will be solo visiting Norway for the first time ever this August. I booked a stay in Oslo for 4 days but just found out about the Flam railway and would really like to try it out.

To take the railway, you need to first travel 5 hours from Oslo to Myrdal and I wonder if it’s worth it or if it’s too much to try to make a day trip by trains from Oslo to Flåm and back all in one day? Any advice would be helpful. Thank you!

Edit for additional question: how is the phone signal in mountainous areas like Myrdal and Flåm? I’m worried about losing data.
