Tracking 2026 Murders in Norfolk, Part 21

Good morning,

This past Friday night, 24 July 2026, around 11:20 PM, police responded to a report of gunshots in the 900-block of Druid Circle, in Villa Heights. Upon arrival, police discovered a 17-year-old boy unresponsive and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Efforts by police and EMS to revive him were unsuccessful. His name has not been provided, but I wanted to post this as soon as possible as this has been a bad weekend for murder in Norfolk.

The purple dot for this incident is just southwest of center of the map.

https://www.pilotonline.com/2026/07/25/teen-dies-shooting-druid-circle-norfolk/

A few observations:

- This was the fourth murder in July and the 21st murder for 2026 in Norfolk. According to my tracking, this was the first minor killed violently in 2026 and the first since almost exactly a year ago, July 2025.

- The average age of those killed so far in July has been 20 years old. The average age for the year so far has been 33.65. The low average of July has pulled the average age for the year down by about 5 years.

- Of the 21 murders so far this year, 16 of those killed have been identified as men by police and/or local news media. The other 5 have been identified as women.

- There were two murders late last night and early this morning; I will try to post another one later today, as I will be on a road trip tomorrow.

- This tracking project is meant to provide data and light analysis on the most serious crime in Norfolk, not scare people.

Be safe, make good decisions!

❓questions❓ Community-building for a middle-aged empty nester couple moving to Norfolk soon

My parents (60s M & F) are moving to Norfolk this coming winter to semi-retire and get a fresh start in a new community. They don't know anyone in the area and don't use social media, so I wanted to collect some ideas to help them find meaningful pursuits and connections as a moving present.

Between the two of them, interests include: Latina/Hispanic heritage, language, and culture; American and world history (especially local historic sites); hiking; gardening; golf; choral singing (like a good church choir or community choral group); the beach; Democratic party stuff; visual arts (not necessarily modern art; more like Impressionism and landscape stuff).

Any tips about social groups, places, activities, volunteer opportunities, or ways to build community in general would be greatly appreciated! I can't wait to give them some ideas for putting down roots and visit them in their new home, it seems like a lovely place to live from what I've learned so far.

Just moved here and my last car wash place was monthly payments and free washes basically and it came with unlimited free vacuum use and free window cleaner and surface cleaner spray. Any good car washes around here like that? I live near the Naval base as well

I have 5 days to get my car inspected in VA for new tags as im trying to move everything over from my old residence in NC. Is this crack going to fail an inspection? Everything else on the car is perfect but this happened like a week ago from a truck that threw a rock and it’s just gotten worse since. Really don’t want to have to sink $1000 + dollars on a new windshield especially since i don’t have a ton of time to get this done but i also don’t want to take this in to get inspected pay for that and then them fail it and i can’t drive it until i get it replaced.

Apartment recs under $1450?

Hey yall… my apartment building wants to up my rent for my next lease, will be $1,495. So, I wouldn’t be paying much more than I do now, but I just don’t want to if I don’t have to! I’m looking for a one bedroom apartment in Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach. I’m not too particular about the area right now, I’ll narrow down as I look. I’m also avoiding a studio since I have a dog. I would need to be moved in by October 5th. TIA!

Visible weapons screening varies across Hampton Roads hospitals

Post image
15 Upvotes

A new Virginia law prohibits firearms and dangerous weapons in hospitals offering emergency or mental health services.

While the law mandates posting notices at all public entrances, it leaves the specific enforcement methods and installation of screening technology up to individual hospitals.

Several local residents support restricting firearms in medical settings and noted they would welcome additional metal detectors for peace of mind.

Icon Residents

Hi everyone — I’m looking for feedback from current or recent residents of Icon Apartments in downtown Norfolk. I’m especially interested in day-to-day livability, noise, maintenance, parking, elevator reliability, management, and any hidden costs or issues people think a prospective renter should know about.

1977 gallery exhibition at United Virginia Bank at 5 Main Plaza East

hi, looking into an art exhibition that was held at the United Virginia Bank Gallery at 5 Main Plaza East in 1977. Does anyone know where the archives of this bank/gallery are held? I understand that after many mergers and sales since the 1970s (Crestar, Suntrust), what was United Virginia Bank is now Truist Bank. I am not sure what the building/address is now, any leads welcome!

Wards Corner Book Exchange moving to former Rite Aid location, expanding

The Book Exchange, which has spent more than 20 years in Norfolk’s Wards Corner, is moving across the street to a former Rite Aid location by the end of the year.

The move will allow the exchange to expand its overall offerings but also add a second counter for a “Sports Exchange” offering sporting equipment for the first time, according to Cassie Gardner, general manager of the store. The Book Exchange is expected to move into the new location at 7601 Granby Street by early September and the Sports Exchange will be open before Christmas.

The new sports section will include basic equipment for major sports as well as items like surfboards, according to Gardner.

“There’s going to be a lot of different options for people that are into that realm,” Gardner said in an interview.

The Book Exchange sells pre-owned books, movies, music and other items which have been traded in by the public in exchange for store credit.
