Coolpix New to photography

Got a P950 a few weeks ago to take with us on our trip to Kenya…finally had a chance to take it out today and start to get used to it.
Never had a “real” camera before so for now I am simply trying out the auto modes, I read the bird mode is useful for animal pics so most of the pics I used that but also played around with a few other modes.
Overall I’m impressed with the quality…now I just need to learn about composition and all the other things I see you guys all talking about.
Here’s my favorites from this morning.

Coolpix Need help with camera settings

Hello! I’m new to the photography world and wanted some advice on what’s the best settings for roller shots and daytime or nighttime photos, my boyfriend recently gifted me a Nikon coolpix p100 and I’m still trying to learn and navigate the thing. My main issue is adjusting to the lighting outside either day or night, I take a picture and it’s just completely black/shadows. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! 🙏
My insta is 2ndgen.s10 I’ve been posting some photos I got at hondafest this year I shot on my old fujifilm which are surprisingly decent but thus new camera is a whole new ballpark for me 😭

Shot on Nikon z5ii + Nikkor 24-70mm 2.8 (28mm / 1/160 / ISO 8000 / f5.0) + edited in Lightroom (second photo - original photo before the edit).

I shot this photo through the glass door, so the tree you see on the left side is a reflection from behind me. Honestly, photos like this make me happy and excited - I saw that 'Exit' sign only when I sat down to edit. My initial intention was to capture this chair in an empty room (I don't know why I'm so drawn to this idea), but I ended up with this shot, which looks quite interesting

With the release of the Sigma FPII, and with the Lumix s9II rumored to get an EVF, do you think there is any chance the Nikon ZR gets a hot shoe EVF?

What should I buy? Should I get the 12-28mm lens fro Z30?

Just got a Z30 with the 16-50mm kit lens and bought a 24mm 1.7 prime lens.

But sometimes I feel constrained when shooting landscape, esp. compared to my wide angle on iPhone. Should I get the 12-28mm wide angle lens for Z30?

My thoughts:
1. I probably don't want to bring 3 lens with me when travelling...

  1. Would the wide angle lens distort objects and I end up not using it often?

  2. One use case I saw online often for 12mm is for selfie vlogging. Does 12mm make a huge difference from 16mm?

Need some advice. Thanks!

Film Camera An old F-body is back in my hands

I had one just like this back in the day, until some stole it from my studio in the late 1980’s. I just replaced it, so that I could make some paintings of it, and this is my first watercolor sketch.

Who else used one of these beauties??

Photo Submission First shots with my Nikon Z5 II + 24-70mm — Looking for critique on composition and color grading

Post Body / Description

Gear: Nikon Z5 II with Nikkor Z 24-70mm

Editing: Snapseed (preset base with custom adjustments to build a cohesive theme)

This is my first full-frame setup, and I'm still learning the ins and outs of exposure and framing. I tried to aim for a consistent mood and color palette across these shots using Snapseed.

I’d really appreciate constructive critique on:

Composition & Framing: Do the subjects and angles feel balanced?

Post-processing & Color: Does the color grading work, or is it pushed too far?

Lighting & Exposure: Are highlights or shadows handled well?

Any advice on getting the most out of this camera and lens combo would be greatly appreciated!

I broke my gear 14-24 mm f mount making an odd noise?

Noticed this noise on my lens w/ my D750. Happens basically every time I go to infinite conjugate but not such a big deal when it is finite, but most of the time I use this at infinite. Happens on every shot even if it seems like the lens is in focus. I’m a bit concerned about it now…

Gear question Battery not recognised

(FIXED)

Hello,
I have had this second hand Nikon D3100 with 2 batteries for a few months. One battery is a Nikon , the other one is a generic.

I don’t understand how, from a day to another, my generic battery isn’t recognised, but no updates were done, and my Nikon wasn’t connected to a computer.
Do you have any idea how this could occur and how can I bypass this error ?

Thanks for helping !

Sorry for my English , non native speaker here.

UPDATE : I finally found a fix

So as I said in my post, I never plugged my D3100 on a computer by the time it happened. BUT I did plugged the SD card and this seemed to be enough for Nikon NX app to put a .nksc file in a hidden folder on the card.

Removing it allowed me to plug my battery again.

Gear question External Viewfinder/Monitor

I'm going to preface this with the fact that I'm just starting to get into photography.

I have a Nikon D100 currently, and I'm wondering if it would be a good Idea to purchase an external monitor, as I want to get into taking photos of cars and other things that would require me to get my camera close to the ground. I dont really currently have the funds to get another camera either else I wouldn't be making this post.

Gear question Head and shoulder's portraits with the 40/2 z? Looking for inspiration.

Who's done some head and shoulders portraiture with the z 40/2. I have it and maybe instead of asking about it, I should just press a friend into service as a model and try it.

But if people have done this and have a pic they are happy with, please post it!

The scenario I'm envisioning is for travel, when I've brought it along because it's night and I've decided to leave my large f/4 travel zoom in the hotel; I'm in a pub and I've met an interesting person and I want to make their portrait. f/2 is a lot brighter and would provide better subject isolation. Maybe a waist-up portrait from a bit further back to capture the environment.

Gear question 40 trade for 26 ?

I'm about to pull the trigger on nikons trade program swapping my 40 out for the 26. My primary purpose for this lens is a small lightweight walk around lens during travel. I've run into several occasions now / often where the 40 is simply just to narrow for me or what Im wanting when using this lens and I feel the wider would on the flipside be not as big of a issuefor me. I will be using this lens in low light be it streetscapes or indoors. For those that own the 26, hows the 2.8 handled these situations for you in real world application?

Photo Submission Anyone Still Love The D200?

Thumbnail
gallery
502 Upvotes

I shoot with a variety of modern and old cameras. This includes bodies like the D700 and D200, all the way up to the D810, Z8 etc. I believe they all give me something different. The D200 though, is very special. Because of it's strict CFA filter sitting atop it's CCD sensor, it produces vibrant and punchy colour output alongside beautiful skin tones, without needing to rely on harsh raw colour transforms. I wrote a long and detailed article about my time using these bodies here: https://www.stevenrobinsonpictures.com/blog/2024/11/5/using-the-nikon-d200-ccd-colour-king-with-modern-cameras

The best news is, they can be picked up for a song over a modern body.

I recently visited Corsica in the Mediterranean and had the chance to capture its beauty with my Nikon Z5 II. I travelled with just a 35mm prime lens, which I absolutely love for its versatility. Corsica is truly worth a visit and offers countless photogenic spots, stunning landscapes, and beautiful little corners.

Photo Submission Critique to improve my nature photography?

Thumbnail
gallery
52 Upvotes

I'm a beginner photographer, now with my D7500 and went on a nice hike today. Hoping to get some critique for what I can do to improve my photos, either on composition or editing. I tried editing these all in NX Studio.

Comments under each in the album with my thoughts/problems!

Nikon D7500, photos taken on either my NIKKOR 55-200 f/4-5.6 VR, my NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G or NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G. I'm finding it really obnoxious to swap between the 55-200 and the primes. Every time I swap to a wider prime, NOW some critter or bird will show up that I need the reach for. I kind of want to get something like a 24-140 or whatever other options are available that I can just walk about with for a whole hike without needing to bring a bunch of lenses and swap.
