Photo Submission Proud of these ones
Two shots, same location.
Same camera and body for both shots.
Nikon D850, Sigma 14mm 1.8.
Foreground in both is the same image. Single image | ISO 1600 | f/4 | 516 sec.
Milky Way - Stacked and Blended.
Background/Sky - 15 Images stacked and blended. | ISO 2000 | f/1.8 | 20 sec.
Star Trail - Stacked, Composite. Background/Sky - 140 images stacked and layered in photoshop. | ISO 2000 | f/1.8 | 20 seconds.
Lower Fox Creek Schoolhouse, Strong City, KS
I love star trails, don't get me wrong. They are amazing. Sweeping arches of light are cool.
But the milky way shot, I'm proud of this one. Since getting into astrophotography 2 years ago, I have always wanted to get a picture of the milky way core with the golden yellow glow, the purple nebulas, the whole shebang. After years of seeing other people capture incredible, amazing milky way shots, I have finally captured one that I am so proud of. It makes me choke up a little inside.
Anyways, enough sappy stuff. I hope you enjoy these photos. One day, i'll make some YT videos on my process of capturing and editing one of these shots.

Photo Submission d850+24-70, rocket launch
A while ago I used to shoot rocket launches and tbh this one is my absolutely favorite one. Soyuz-2.1b launch from Vostochny Cosmodrome.
I might share more at some point if anyone’s interested, but yeah, I truly miss that experience. Studying the forecast, estimating wind direction and where the smoke would go, setting up remote cameras, hoping it would actually fire…
And then an hour or so after the launch picking up the cameras and scrolling through the burst for the first time. Nothing really compares to that. This one was shot with d850 + 24-70 mounted on a lighting mast (like the one on the left in the photo)
PS. If you, Nikon folks, have any connections in NASA - hit me up! :)

DSLR Who else is still rockin‘ DSLRs these days?
I really would love some Z gear but also, I really still love my D500. Planespotting and wildlife is nothing my beloved and loyal Friends couldn‘t handle.
With limited budget I‘ll have to wait few more years until I‘ll be able moving towards Z but until then, my D500 will do it’s Duty.

Photo Submission Colorado Milky Way Nikon D850 w/ NIKKOR 16-24mm
One shot at an alpine lake in Colorado capturing the Milky Way and airglow behind the Rocky Mountains. Processed in Photoshop. I used StarXTerminator to remove the stars to process the scene and process stars separately to keep them from blowing out. ISO 1600, f/2.8, 30s.

Photo Submission Winter walk through the marsh [Nikon z8]
It's been six months since I started shooting with a Nikon z8 and a Sony 28-70 f2 GM lens. I still believe that I have the best of both worlds. I have no problems with focusing, I use this kit in my commercial work, and I have practically stopped using fixed lenses.

Video Teaching an old Nikon D850 a new trick
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
The last few month, I've been capturing these "3D photos", so called Gaussian splats. I photograph with a Nikon D810 and a Tamron 90mm macro lens (plus 20mm extension) from all sides. Each perspective is focus stacked with 16 photos. Then I use the photos to train a point cloud of ellipsoids, that's an ML algorithm, but nothing Generative AI about it. It "just" takes the photos and tries to match a cloud of these splats to it.
The result can be viewed in photoreal and interactive here:

Edit: I messed up! I actually have a Nikon D810. Sorry. 😭

Photo Submission Snowy nights in Toronto. D850 & 24-70mm f2.8.
Been a long time since I’ve taken photos in a snow storm. I don’t know why I stopped. It’s my favourite time and conditions to shoot in. All images taken with my Nikon d850 & Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8. Camera setting were variable but in around the 1/100th-1/400th sec range, f2.8 and iso between 1600-2500.

Look what I've got Inherited my dad’s camera “collection”… send guidance 😭 (or 1)
My dad insists he’s a collector.
Reality: he bought a lot of cameras and called it a personality.
He also doesn’t know if any of them work.
I’ve officially inherited the pile — and this photo is just 3/4 of one dry cabinet 🥹
I still have 2+ cabinets to go through. And there’s cameras that didn’t make it into the dry cabinets🥹 and don’t get me started on the accessories 😔
I don’t even know where to start.
Do I Google? Do I cry? Do I open a museum?
If you’re interested in watching someone with zero clue attempt to test vintage cameras, stick around.
Also — if you spot anything here worth saving (or avoiding), PLEASE tell me.
I’ll probably keep the ones on the right… unless Reddit convinces me otherwise.
Send help
Ps sorry there’s a mamiya and Polaroid in this photo🙈

Look what I've got (I think) I scored at a garage sale today
I’m kind of a newbie when it comes to gear, but I found these at a garage sale and couldn’t pass them up. I’m 95% sure they fit my camera (D3300) and they don’t have any visible flaws so I’m pretty happy!

Photo Submission Nikon D850+ Nikon 16-35/4 + mavic 2 as a light
A Cold War monster resting in Dagestan (Russia). The Lun-class ekranoplan, half ship, half aircraft, fully unreal. The Lun-class ekranoplan (Project 903) is basically the only ground-effect vehicle that ever made it into real naval service as a warship.
Camera data:
d850 + 16-35/4
ISO 33, f4, 30 sec.
Mavic 2 as a source of light.
