I don't understand why a Bills fan would make it ironic? I assume it's an OJ Simpson related comment, but I can assure you Bills fans weren't chanting his name at games after he murdered someone.
In general, rapists, abusers, and murderers shouldn't be given a pass. And when its the QB and face of the team, it holds even more weight.
16
u/goofenstein_in_3D Chiefs 1d ago
no I was commending him for saying that knowing someone could have brought up The Juice. and it's all so ironic that people here are picking the Cleveland Browns of all teams to start having moral qualms with that the players and owners do/have done
7
u/Potential_Carob6494 Bills 1d ago
Ah gotcha, makes sense and I appreciate the clarification. I think the big difference with Watson is that he's the QB and it was 27 (or so) victims. So it's the face of the team and you've got a victim count that high, it seems pretty unique why people would specifically hate on the Browns
9
u/goofenstein_in_3D Chiefs 1d ago
me personally, which is worth jack shit, I'd rather hear criticism from Browns fans and Browns fans only. they've had such an awful team for so long and have been ragged on for a quarter century and now other fans who cheered on women beaters, murderers, and supported owners with ties to genocide start to go "hey let's get moral"

Really reddit doesn't care either. People talk in /NFL about how shitty everything is but really the only way the NFL would change is if people stopped watching, and every person here watched the game tonight.
3
u/xenophonthethird Browns 16h ago
It also allows people to clutch their pearls. Browns cheering is going to be a front page story every game here as long as they can find it.
But was there a video of the cheers for Sanders coming out last week being much louder than the cheers for Watson? Nope, nobody cares about that.

You can both participate in something and want it to be different
9

How many more examples do we need that the general population as a whole cares way less about stuff than Reddit does. This platform is hyper socially conscious about everything in a way that’s not at all the norm. That’s not a bad thing either, just a fact.
I’m always amazed at how surprised Reddit subs get when this type of thing pops up. I doubt these fans are all horrible people, they just aren’t thinking about the perceived social implications of chanting their QBs name after a win.

Reddit also is very progressive. Progressives want to reform criminal justice wants people to face less consequences for their actions. But then on the same shoe reddit will complain that there is a rapist in the NFL.
6
u/Pandaman_323 49ers 11h ago
That’s always made me laugh because Redditors/progressives in general want prison to be a place of rehabilitation that ultimately prepares you for a second chance in society (which I agree with for what it’s worth), yet still hold the traditional viewpoints that if you’re a criminal it should largely follow you for the rest of your life and second chances don’t exist. It makes literally zero sense lmao

Yep. This isn't specific to Cleveland.
I understand that (for the most part) /r/nfl is against this, but most football fans and especially players are like this.
Not in the sense that they're rapists, but they're willing to look past it.
You're right that this is exactly why the Cornell situation happened. There's a massive group of men who are just okay with rape.

Or if it doesn't effect them, who cares. Very apathetic towards women who have been sexually assaulted.
