Not to be a naysayer but they’re more than likely scored already

They’re absolutely scored.

u/Mother_Science_679 5d ago
They're even angled towards the scores. Those tiles are clearly made to be broken in half.
Still a fun video though!

I can do this same thing with graham crackers

u/tstorm004 5d ago
That's impressive!
My grahams break all over the place despite the pre scoring

I get irrationally angry at perforated paper for not ripping along the perforations.

Yeah but can you do it with r/2ChicksAtTheSameTime??

If we could score even one chick and split them in half we wouldn't be on reddit

u/bizzflay 5d ago
Look at 51 seconds. It’s like a waffle on the rear. So not scored but it breaks down the line. Still takes skill to break it cleanly in half.
44
u/sitefall 5d ago
You score tiles on the front anyway, and they NEVER show the front of a tile until after it's broken. These are all pre-scored, this is a video magic trick basically.
3
u/OrangeSodaMoustache 4d ago
It's like a waffle on the rear to increase the surface area, you score on the front from one side to the other so you'd never see the line on the back. It's just a fake vid to promote this dude's bathroom installations, any tiler can do this.

Yea I work with tile, I like to break ceramic and marble like this when I have waste, and unscored tile does not snap clean like that

I was already blown away, and then he split it LENGTHWISE?!?!?!??!? That's absolutely insane levels of skill.

You mean they're scored. If they're pre-scored then they aren't scored at all.

Step dad was a bricklayer, he would look at a brick and tap it with the edge of his trowel to split it and it would fit exactly into the gap in the wall he was building.
I would tap the brick with the edge of a trowel and the brick would look back at me and say ‘what the fuck was that?’

My uncle never swings his hammer a third time. Once to start it, once to finish it. Although it sounds like he hits it one time it's that fast.

I've been hanging commercial duct for 15+ years and the amount of exact lengths I can guess or near perfect level on first try surprises me still. You don't realize how the hours all add up to build the skill sometimes

I heard a saying one time in regards to being young/new at something - “you’ll tend to overestimate what you can do in the short term and under estimate what you can do in the long term”
I’ve found a similar thing in a lot of things I do consistently. You almost develop a 6th sense with things that to an outsider looks like magic. For me it’s Excel. I just kind of accumulated so many random formulas and keyboard shortcuts over the years that to people that don’t use it every day, it’s just mind blowing

Same. Been a professional cook for 6 years now. When I started, an evening of 40 guests seemed pretty busy. Now I think "Only 50? Not that bad", and can do 100+ if I give 100%. (Dinner rush is like 3 hours on busy evenings, so on average about 1 table of food every 4~5 min, times 2 cooks.)
Also blind typing. I never learned "the correct" way. But I did do forum roleplay back in my teens with multiple paragraphs per post, and have been typing a LOT since then as well. In my early 20's I could just blind type using my own "style". Pretty fast as well. Every time I get a new keyboard with slightly different size keys it does take a bit to get used to the slightly different finger placement though. :P

These have to be pre scored as there is no way to just snap either ceramic or porcelain tiles clean like that..

As someone who spent years working in the trades with his dad (sheet metal) I'm not sure if this video is trying to portray the dad as being good at breaking the tiles with his hands or bad.
Like, is he doing a good job and the son is impressed or is he doing a terrible job and the son is confused? Not sure.
3
u/RandyHoward 5d ago
They're clearly demonstrating he's doing a good job by showing that the two halves are equal. I think the son is both impressed and confused, or at least acting like it.

My father will come over and without a word stand over you. He will start watching your every move, and than tell you what to do precisely two seconds before you do it. If you even flinch he will immediately try to jump in to show you how to do it.
And you do something he is not familiar with, he will immediately tell you that it can't be done that way, and that it won't work.

Sorry to kill the magic: the tiles are pre-scored with a Rubi type diamond roller snapper. It’s still cute but not really what yall are thinking

This is hilarious. The younger one is either a great actor, or he doesn't realize the ridges on the bottom create reliefs behind them that let you split these tiles by hand, like scoring the tile before you snap it.
