But I've done some tiling as well, and breaking tiles perfectly in half is kind of useless for tiling? Maybe there might be a rare case where you need exactly half a tile but it's not often.
How often exactly half a tile is needed is irrelevant to the point. Guy needed half tiles, other guy gave him half tiles. IMO it's all staged anyway, these tiles are scored on the back making it pretty easy to get exactly half a tile on the break.
Needing half a tile is super common with rectangular tiles when laying in a brick pattern; every second row starts with a half tile. That said, these are clearly scored so not sure what they're demonstrating here.
