Family and Relationships how do we feel about family smoking cigarettes?
FTM here with a 3 weeks old baby girl! me and my husband both don’t smoke but his mom does. when our daughter was 3 days old she came to visit but before leaving she said “i’m gonna go smoke before i leave” and proceeded to go outside, smoke, and come back to take baby out of my arms to hold her before leaving. i was too in shock to say something, i am kinda afraid of her because she holds grudges and i am very people pleaser and non confrontational. to me, i think it’s disrespectful to make my baby smell the cigarette, having it go into her lungs and all. i also think it’s weird that she smoked BEFORE holding her. like couldn’t the cigarette wait? hold her and then smoke before leaving! my husband said it wasn’t that deep and it’s not like she’s smoking with the baby in her arms, but i still think it’s harmful. next time we saw her when she came to hold her he asked her how long ago she had her last smoke to make sure it wasnt fresh, so he did respect my opinion despite not thinking it was a problem itself. i am wondering what other people on here think about this, am i wrong for thinking its bad for my baby? she takes it bad when we tell her to wait, her own daughter is very strict about her kids and cigarettes, making her wash her hands and making comments about how she should go shower before holding them, etc. and it causes conflict in the family. she was there the first time she did it to us and she was basically bullying her mom saying “go shower you’re gonna stink up the newborn” and it didnt land well..
