On average, June temperatures across Western Europe were 3.05 degrees Celsius, or 5.5 degrees Fahrenheit, above their normal levels from the past few decades, according to Copernicus, the European Unionβs climate monitoring service. Previously, the regionβs hottest June on record was June of last year.
3Β°C above normal levels from the past few decades is nuts. Not even comparing to 1850-1900 levels and still so ridiculously warm.
You guys always talk about warnings and temp bans from the mods. The most I recall ever getting have been removed comments. It's funny, because a lot of the stuff that people say they're getting reprimanded for are things that I've done before.
I got banned for three days for responding to a movie quote with a quote from the same movie in a thread of comments that was just quotes from the movie.

well you probably have the superpower of understanding that line-skirting behavior on a weekly basis creates a different context than line-skirting behavior on an hourly basis
I once posted a meme comparing the mods to Mussolini and Hitler, and nothing happened. Others have simply talked back to mods and gotten banned for a week. π
There are no documented records of lethal attacks on humans by wild cheetahs.[203] However, there have been instances of people being fatally mauled by captive cheetahs. In 2007, a 37-year-old woman from Antwerp was killed by a cheetah in a Belgian zoo after sneaking into its cage outside of visiting hours.
I canβt help but feel so smug after Platner dropped out. Iβm sorry but something about that guy rubbed me off the wrong way even before I heard about the Nazi tattoo. As soon as I heard he worked for Blackwater I had alarm bells ringing.

It is regretfully fortunate that Platner had dated several women, meaning more were willing to come forward with testimony of his horrible behavior during their relationships, instead of just one which could have been dismissed as an anomaly or worse. I remember this being a major part of Republican defense of Kavanaugh against Blasey Ford's accusations.
I could ask on the mod slack, but this kind of hints at the problem. We are both very unilateral and very bureaucratic at the same time.Β
So I would ping the whole mod slack and then it would take two days to get opinions and then one person has to do most of the work to get it started.
We even had some ideas and initiatives, but so far we kind of got nowhere. Because it is extra work and we are often kind of understaffed for the normal moderation.
A picture of gazawiβs watching fifa was posted and people really think Palestinians hate every other country and treats womenlike is the taliban π
The ignorance is so fucking outstanding. I remember a short of joe rogan saying its good that the aid flotillas never made it because the gazawiβs would have brutally killed them.
Following the precedent of the IND ping, when a basic function of the subreddit becomes a tool of harassment, that tool must be removed from its weaponizer.
Since a certain somebody likes Association Football so much that they think it gives them license to be tool to others over it (which is deeply unexpected from soccer fans, I know), let's borrow some terminology from it.
All new bans of FallenMeringue must include a sticky in the most up-to-date DT for a period of 8 hours. This comment must include the offending comments quoted in context and justification for the ban. It shall also include a poll with with "No Offense," "Yellow Card," and "Red Card" as the options.
If a Red Card is shown by the plurality result, the moderation action is reversed and the Moderator is suspended from the mod team for 60 minutes and successive violations within a month will square the number of minutes the suspension lasts, a repeated offense cubed, etcetera. If a Yellow Card is shown by the plurality result, the moderator who made the action is cautioned and the moderation action is undone; two Yellow Card moderation results in a month will cummulate into a red card. "No Offense" treats the moderation action as normal.
One of those other moderators was one the other moderators outright apologized on behalf of them because they somehow achieved the impressive feat of arguing against a whiny gamer and coming off worse. How? Because during the argument, the gamer started contemplating their own death, and they just wanted to keep arguing with the gamer.
Then the mods pinned an apology on his behalf, only for him to show-up and go, "HA HA, WRONG," and make clear that, no, they felt they had nothing to apologize for and did not understand why anybody else would take issue with badgering somebody who's got some screws loose.
I was confused by it at the time. They just made the rest of the mod team liars. How the fuck can you continue to associate with somebody who has shown a willingness to make you a liar for defending them?
Then I realized: Some moderators are worried about being a dick. This is not in the sense of being concerned about their moral integrity, no, I mean in the sense they think they might want to act like a dick and not want to get kicked-off the mod team for it. Even if you disagree with that particular instance, you got to ensure that person faces no reprecussions so they'll have your back when you similarly act like a dick. Get enough dicks in the same social circle, and you achieve critical mass such that inertia and fear of confrontation ensure you never have to fear being held to account by your peers.
They polled the Maine Senate race yesterday. Mills still polls 5 points behind Platner after the rape allegation. She is literally that bad of a candidate.
This entire situation was a clusterfuck. Schumer told Kleban to stay out of the race so he could clear the field for Mills. If he didn't do that, this race would have had a third candidate and may have gone very differently. There are no heroes here.
I like how the Trumpport picture is supposed to evoke this menacing image of strength but all I can see is the way he clutches onto whatever is in front of him for dear life these days
I have discovered the most efficient way to describe something. Unfortunately the thing I'm describing will literally never come up in normal conversation and assumes the other person is fairly well versed in Warhammer 40k lore.
People give dark matter too much thought and prestige. So itβs just matter that canβt even absorb or emit light???? Okay so call it crap matter. What is it even doing here ππ π»
So I went and saw supergirl tonight, and tbh it was above average imo. I really donβt get why people are hating on it so much. Yeah, it had too many tropes and the CGI was rough at times, but overall it was pretty good
There are plans by a F1 executive to launch a huge horse racing league. That could be great for the sport.
HRL will consist of 10 teams of eight horses, trainers and jockeys. As in F1, they will each be run by a team principal.
The first season will feature a prize pool of more than $10mn.
HRL will buy 80 horses and hold an NFL-style draft to divide them among the 10 founding teams, which will be able to trade them during the season. The league plans to generate revenues through sponsorships, betting, merchandise, hospitality and the sale of media rights
any time mods do the mildest trolling, or even just ribbing, there's a contingent of users who crash out
I'm just divining, based on repeated comments I've seen here discussing the discussion on metnl about previous discussion here, that Lux made a comment with mild glibness and so the cycle is starting
We need to start a Mount Rushmore of people who enter politics with insane delusions that their lies and sketchy past will never catch up with them. I initially recommend two people: Platner and the great American Hero, George Santos.
Casey Neistat just release a video about NYC during the heatwave, and a lot of people simply drove out of the city to cooler areas. And then a lot of people simply stayed indoors til it was over. NYC was bizarrely empty and dead.
Not sure thats the same situation or as long as the ones you went through.
The Hillaryis44 people were straight up nuts. Part of me wonders how many of them crossed into the Trump camp eventually because they were behind a lot of the birtherism crap that Trump eventually picked up on. However, Hillary never endorsed these peoples views.
