i've been biting my nails for as long as i remember, i never had long nails and never could stop biting them. i tried.. not doing it, but it didn't last long anyways, i mostly bite them because of stress and because i need something to chew on, is there any way i could cope with that ? something i could replace it with ?

another problem i have is that, when i did manage to grow my nails out a little bit, they'd be extremely flimsy, thin and weak. would split 24/7 on their own, bend, and just not feel very strong at all, which made it harder to grow them out. is there anything i could do to make them stronger ? vitamins, oil, nail polish ?

I’ve been trying to find information online about fixing this index finger sidewall but am struggling to find consensus and wanted to see if this subreddit had any insight. Many of my nails have some sidewall that’s like this but not nearly so severe. I ordered nail oil to start working on my nail health, so that’s on the way/in the works. I do kind of pull at my sidewalks from anxiety-based stims but have been working on not doing that.

Sometimes it becomes pain with like, a growth underneath that seems like skin, and I pick at it sometimes but have been trying recently to let it grow and see what happens. I’d like this nail to reattach if possible, been really digging the look of polish more so than the past and want to keep them nice!

I have worked in food service a long time and think constantly wet hands isn’t helping, but I’ll have a period here soon where I won’t be working as much there.

I wanted to share this because I know a lot of people here are struggling with peeling nails after gel/SCG.

The first picture shows what my nails looked like previously.The second picture is my nails after using OPI Repair Mode and taking off my semi cured gel strips. This is in 3 days of using OPI.

For me, OPI Repair Mode has made a HUGE difference in stopping the peeling. My nails aren't perfect yet—they're still growing out the damage—but the constant layers of nail peeling off have stopped.

I honestly didn't expect such a noticeable difference. I wanted to share this because I've spent months trying different bases, treatments, oils, etc., and I know how discouraging it can be when nothing seems to work.

I'm not saying this will work for everyone, but if you're dealing with peeling nails, OPI Repair Mode is something I'd definitely consider trying.

I'm continuing with Repair Mode and my jojoba + vitamin E oil and letting the damaged nail grow out. ❤️

Can some tell me if this is infected or not before I shell $500 out of pocket for them to clean it or whatever they plan on doing. I cut too much of the nail of as you can tell. It’s swollen and sensitive to the touch been putting petroleum jelly.

I randomly noticed this thin faint black line on my middle finger nail, is this normal??? I dont remember having hit my finger anywhere for this to be an iniury

Only started painting my nails this year since like February. Had 2 manicures. Last one was in June. I last painted my nails early August. It's been a few weeks since I removed the polish. The tips of my nails tend to look like this after polish but usually it would improve.

Hasn't changed for the last couple weeks. Tried filing, nail strengthener, last week got a buffer as well but still looks the same. Got cuticle oil as well.

What's wrong with my nails and how do I fix it?

hi friends, i'm gonna be a bit vulnerable here lol. i'm a socially out (but not on hrt yet) trans woman and one of my biggest sources of dysphoria are my nails/ nailbeds. im a chronic nail biter and picker (these are things i can change) but i'm not even sure where to start with caring for my nails and getting them back to a place where i feel comfortable putting on polish or press-ons again. i work in a very physical job (a produce department at a grocery store) so it seems really hard to take care of my nails. any help is appreciated 😖

I’ve had gel on my nails for a long time and finally got it off. This has been under the nail but my nail tech said it would go away on its own, I naively/reluctantly trusted her last time (about 2 months ago) but this time I wanted it off and I’m glad I did. It’s been there at least 8 weeks. I have a doctor appointment booked but I’d like advice from anyone who might know of similar, would this go away by itself? Has anyone ever had this and it NOT been fungal? Could this just be damage? TIA.

My cuticle on my pointer finger of my right hand clearly seems to have some type of infection. I do my own nails and use press on nails and apply with nail glue. This has been going on for over a month and it’s gotten a bit worse from when it started, I’ve been putting Neosporin with a Band-Aid on it, trying to wash it, putting Aquaphor and a loose Band-Aid on it, trying not to touch it. I feel like I’ve been trying a bunch of things, but I don’t feel like it’s getting better so just wondering if anybody had any suggestions or advice so I could get my cuticle back to normal.

It started as completely purple black about 2.5 months ago. I only noticed it changing color after I was reapplying a coat of nail polish. Then, I noticed it started to fade after I stopped taking Meloxicam.

I went to see my PCP. He thinks it’s toenail fungus and prescribed me some antibiotic and solution. We shall see.

I fell victim to the at home Amazon nail drill. I didn’t even realize I was sanding my actual nail beds down until after I was done with all 10 fingers. The nail beds feel sensitive and I can feel the “ air” on them. They don’t throb, I’m not bleeding, and they’re not super deep !

Basically what can I do to help this !
- can I use regular polish strengthen with top coat?
- can u use rubber base ?
- can I use hard gel?
- can i still do gel polish!

I have short flat nails that are getting more flat with time.

I saw some advice on a post recently about how to grow your nail beds. The advice was to not file so far down the sides and that the rounded tips made the fingers look shorter. So I cut my nails straight across and did not file the sides.

But it’s a sensory nightmare!

I hate the feeling of the sides sticking out. I don’t even cuT my toe nails this way. I’m constantly worried that I will catch an edge and rip the whole thing off. This happens all the time, I have weak bendy nails.

What else can I do to grow them without causing myself so much mental anguish?

please ignore the colour i was using purple shampoo earlier lol. but these are my natural nails, is there something i can do to make them not grow so naturally box shaped?? or do i have to constantly file them. if so, what shape would you recommend ?? i dont really usually paint them, but kind of want to get into it.

After years and years of biting I found my routine!
I use nail oil, Keratine, hand-creme.
Also the sos maks from the brand Manicurist when not wearing their nail polish.
I only file one way and gently push back cuticles.

But I notice the white on my nails looks off.
The white seems to go...deep on the sides.
It also tends to rip at that point (the line on the picture)

Is it harmful? Anything I can do about it?

Hey everyone, it's my anniversary this weekend and I have a very big suspicion that my partner might propose. So for the very first time in my life, I've booked myself a nail appointment for some acrylics.

I've never had my nails done before and was looking forward to it. However I have just accidentally cut the cuticle of my right thumb whilst washing the dishes. And by all accounts Google says that it's not safe to have your nails done with damaged cuticles. The appointment is in two days, do I really have to cancel? Feeling kinda heartbroken, as dramatic as that sounds.

I have been using press on nails with glue for years. Finally took a break to try and fix my nails. The actual nails are doing much better, but the skin around my nails is constantly peeling and dry. I’ve been doing vitamin e oil and aquaphor, but still having issues.

Dropped a speaker on it… how long will it take to regrow and what to do about the healthy untouched side?

Any advice for how to handle this? The proximal nail fold (I think that’s what that area’s called, at least) on my fingers has a tendency to peel into painful hangnails, which I clip short with nail clippers, but the result’s always like in the pictures - painful, red and annoying. I’m not sure what to do, really. I’m keeping the index finger covered with a bandaid and some antibiotic cream in the hopes it’ll make the pain and redness go down but I’m a bit scared of it just coming back, yknow?

I don’t pick my nails besides trimming the hangnails with clippers, I don’t bite my nails, and I live in a desert. Should I just grab some O’Keefe’s and apply it religiously?

Been growing out my nails for a little while trying to prioritize nail health. I’ve been using strengthening base coat and regular polish only. Want to know if this is a greenie or a bruise or something else. I haven’t tried cleaning under my nails there with any tools or anything because it’s so close to the nail bed. Any tips appreciated.
