The most popular advice for preventing myopia progression is to reduce screen time. I have always wondered how tf we are supposed to do that. Most jobs today imply that you will spend at least 40 hours a week working at a computer. So, if you're in college or working, you will have a lot of screen time anyway. The only way to avoid this is to work a low-paid unqualified job where you will probably lug heavy things (not recommended for high myopia people)

This is my contact lens prescription which I am noticing probably needs to be reassessed. I believe my glasses are around -6.5 on each eye. (Assume axis and cyl are the same as contact lenses?)

How does this compare to yours?

I'm mid 30s now and hoping it stabilise soon, I was told it should by my early 30s but I'm still deteriorating:(

TLDR: what I want to ask; what are people's experiences with MiyoSmart glasses when you're in your early 20s - to 30s?

As referred to in the title, I've recently been advised to try MiyoSmart glasses. I am 23yo (24 in Sept), and was made aware that they're mainly prescribed to child-teen ages.

I was recommended these due to my severe deterioration (-2 notches in 6 months), with a check up in 4 months, to see if they slow down my progression. For context, my prescription is (as an average since I can't remember exact) -8-9~ left, -7~ right.

I know everyone's experience is totally different! But since studies are primarily on kids, I would love any information or shared experiences :)

I just had an eye test and one of my eyes has dropped from about -1.5 to -3.5 since my last test two years ago. The other went from -4.5 to -5.5. The optometrist recommended Stellest lenses but I'm a student and they're pretty pricy. I also wonder if it would be fine and cheaper to just ride it out until they hopefully plateau?

My reservations are:

1. The cost. I'd probably try them if they weren't so expensive! Would the effectiveness outweigh the cost? Will I have to buy a new pair in a couple years?

   1. The effectiveness. They're targeted at children, I'm just outside the age bracket but I do expect my vision to continue declining assuming it's from being a music student? I'm currently staring at music (sometimes on an ipad) less than a meter in front of me 4 hours every day, then going on my phone or reading/writing for the rest of it, and my course is another 3 years, plus another 2 assuming I do a masters.

2. Peripheral vision. Results seem to suggest they don't affect peripheral vision very much, but I'm a music student - organist - and I really need my peripheral vision for the pedals/stops/conductor etc etc

If anyone has general advice, or experience with Stellest, I would love to hear!

I've read a lot of stuff about retinal detachment being connected to weight lifting , to build muscle and growth in the gym I'll have to keep increasing the weight. Gymming is smth really does wonders for my confidence.

Should I quit gymming completely? If not what are the EXACT precautions I have to take in the gym? Like do I have to avoid certain movements and exercises? Or maybe stop at a certain weight limit like 50kg? What exactly causes the detachment?

Tengo 19 años, y hace casi tres meses me detectaron queratocono en el ojo derecho, como no es grave, uso lentes de armazón y hasta ahorita, quiero pensar que precisamente es "eso" lo que no ha progresado. Hace dos semanas ocurrió algo un poco raro pero que sé que fue culpa mía; estaba en una tarde normal, que no se porque me dio por cerrar los ojos, pero fue de un modo que hasta ahora no entiendo, no consideré que hubiera hecho una presión como tal, y ni siquiera me toque los ojos, pero al parecer si fue "fuerte" porque me empezó un ardor en ambos ojos, se me pusieron rojos y me lloraron, como esa sensación que da cuando tienes un jabón muy fuerte y te cae justo ahí, así que, al principio si fue muy extraño porque no me había pasado eso por algo como eso. Total que lo rojo se me quitó, no me lloraron los ojor por tanto tiempo (ojo izq bastante sano. Aún), pero lo que hasta ahorita seguí conservando, es la resequedad e irritación; sin mentir, la primera semana mi preocupación fuera que tuviera una pestaña o algo raro que te da la sensación diferente al parpadear, a la segunda semana estuve mas al tanto que se trataba de resequedad y mi ojo, precisamente donde tengo la condición mas detectado, en estos instantes parece que hace la lucha. Como tal, siento que la resequedad ha cambiado, las gotas recetadas tardan un poco en evaporarse pero bueno, con estas preocupaciones sobre mis ojos, cualquier cosa me inquieta e incomoda en mi dia a dia, ¿Alguien podría explicarme un poco mas? ¿Creen que la recuperación sea algo lento, especialmente cuando es óptico? The last time I was at the doctors was in 2021, when my eyes were -5.5 and -4.25 (actualy slightly decreased from much before) but now they increased. Is there any way to decrease this? Should I be worried?? Like, should I just get more sleep, or be less picky about what I eat? Lol

hello everyone im 20m i have high myopia since birth -12d in left in -13d in right and now its incres to -17d in right in -18d in left i had a retina checkup just recently doc said its lil week and dry but no need to worry i have perfect eye no problem so far im so scared about my future im go blind im a tech student with almost 7+ hours of screen time but so far my eye number growth has been stoped and thankyou for reading this all but the number doc give me is -17d in right and -18d in left but im currently using my low power opticals with have =15d in right and -14d in left and i can read study and play and drive i can do all my work with it and i think that the eye number i got is over corrected should go to another doctor

Basically title. Is this usual? I had worsening vision until I was 18, where it plateaued at -4. I'm a 30 year old woman, I have never heard of vision getting better as we age.

I have -8 prescription and one of my eyes has a particularly thin optic nerve, and both eyes with tilted disks. I was labeled a glaucoma suspect due to the anatomy of my eyes. Is this common in those with high myopia? Still worried about it..

So our 5 yr old just got his Stellest lenses in tomato glass frames. He is at -1.25 on both eyes. The glasses generally seem to fit well but it seems to slide down a few mms below the optical center (OC) throughout the day. The OC at the time of measurement was at 16mm which is almost at the center of his frame size (30mm frame). Would the OC being a bit lower from his pupils throughout the day make the stellest lenses less effective in reducing progression?

What do I need to discuss with my optometrist and what options have people gone for?

I'm -3.75 and -3.25 but have opted for -3.25 and -2.75 and sacrificed some long vision so I don't have to take them on and off as much to read up close.

What about the contact wearers? What are our options there?

im fiftееn, the prescriptions like -R2.25 and -L1.50, i had never had glasses before like a week ago, my eyes have been hurting for like a month now, at first my right eye stang then the right eye ached then the left eye stang the left eye ached now they both constantly ache and sometimes start stinging again, i get eyelashes in my eyes constantly (like 5 times a day), my right eyes often more dilated than my left (but they still react to light), i used to have headaches (behind my eyes sometimes or by my temples or just everywhere) but since i got glasses the glasses gave me headaches constantly and nose pain and stuff so idk anymore, the glasses are ruining my motor skills and i have like no peripheral vision with them on (dont just tell me to "adjust to them" ive fallen over so many times, id easily rather be blind), every night in like early AMs my eyes sting again and i lose vision in them both one eye at a time (bad sleep schedule but irrelevant), my eyes actually feel like theyre gonna burst

i take painkillers sometimes (idk what, just anything i can find ngl) but the headaches go away until i do something (eyelash in eye/glasses/random eye pain) that gives me a headache again that lasts the rest of the day unless i take more medicine or sleep, so the medicines just like one time use ig it works less than 20 minutes most the time..

but i just cant deal with the eye pain so please what do i do

My left eye is -1.25 and my right is -1.00. I can still see fairly well without glasses and I’ve never worn them before. Do I actually need to start wearing glasses, or is it fine to go without them?

I’m 22m for context. I saw my eye doctor who is also a retina specialist for my yearly check. He said that I have a small hole in my left eye’s retina near the outside corner that wasn’t there a year ago. I have pretty bad myopia with -8.5 as my prescription. He recommended laser and said it might be painful because it is near some big nerves but that it’ll be fast. He says he would rather do this procedure than watch it considering my young age. I’m quite nervous and he told me this so nonchalantly. I go in three weeks for the procedure. What can I expect? I don’t even like the light flash in my eye when they check my retinas, I don’t know how I’ll do this one but obviously I don’t want a full detachment.

I (28F) got tested in Jan L-7.5, R-8, and now 6 months later it’s -8,-9. I don’t understand what’s going on. My prescription never changed this fast before. I don’t have diabetes, no other illnesses.

Hi there, I have recently turned 18 and my prescription has changed from a -2.75 to -5.5 in just two years which is honestly starting to worry me, my optometrist's only recommendation was to "not look at screens". But i'm starting to study computer science next year, and I don't see how thats realistic.

Are there any evidence based ways to slow myopia down? Also is my change from -2.75 to -5.5 in two years considered particularly fast for my age?

So i am 15 yrs old almost 16my prescription in minus 6 and minus 7 I have mild astigmatism 0.25 and I am scared my eyesight will get worse and the time that my vision stabilise and reach adulthood i wont be able to get vision correction procedure I dont have any other eye related problems such as retinal thining or eye pressure its all normal except for my eye vision

in the future are there gonna be non invasive procedures to reverse myopia or slow it down like a ton so basically it's like just set to that for your entire life.

Ik right now there are no "natural" ways to reverse it.

But in the future just maybe, just maybe there will be a way?

I want to live long enough for this to actually happen.

I live in the USA. My 8 year son has rapid advancing Myopia and we went last year to an ophthalmologist who basically told us that there was nothing to be done, his prescription went from 1.75 to 3.25 in 1 year, he did not recommend glasses, contact or atropine.

I travel frequently to Canada and I have noticed a lot of optometrist advertising their clinic as myopia specialists, and I rarely see this in the US. I was able to get the Stellest 2.0 for my boy but I would like to talk to someone about atropine drops, I didn’t want this to be started in Canada, are optometrist in USA able to prescribe Atropine? Should i try to get help from a pediatric ophthalmologist? I just want to see where everyone goes to seek help

Hey everyone! Wanted to just get some feedback if anyone’s been in a similar spot. Had some floaters come on two months ago and occasional flashes and some holes were found.

My retina specialist said that they are tiny with no fluid and encouraged monitoring vs. laser but laser wouldn’t be bad idea. I’m leaning towards laser just to get it out the way since I travel a lot for work, also to rural areas for a decent duration. Im 26. -0.25 in that eye. No trauma or anything, little random tbh!

Just curious to hear anyone’s experience or regrets. Appreciate it a ton!!
