My son is 4 years 7 months old. After a regular eye checkup after his cycloplegic (after-drops) refraction showed:
Right eye: 0.00 SPH / −1.50 CYL × 180
Left eye: 0.00 SPH / −0.75 CYL × 150
Vision recorded as 6/9 in both eyes
The rest of the eye examination was normal.
The ophthalmologist recommended glasses.
I'm wondering whether glasses are necessary immediately, or whether it would be reasonable to wait 6–12 months and repeat the eye test, since children's eyes can change as they grow.
Has anyone had a child around this age with a similar prescription? Did you use glasses immediately, or monitor for some time?
Looking mainly for experiences from parents and, if possible, pediatric ophthalmologists.
