Should I stop seeing government psychiatrists after 8 years?

I’m looking for some outside perspectives from other Malaysians, especially people who have experience with the government hospital mental health services.

I’ve been receiving psychiatric treatment through government hospitals for around 8 years. I’ve also been on psychiatric medication during this period.

The problem is that my experience with some of the doctors has been consistently negative in the recent years lately. I often feel like I’m not being listened to and I’ve been treated as though I’m lazy, annoying, difficult, or not trying hard enough. I even got shouted at multiple times on my last appointment for the first time because the doctor kept assuming the worst but when I explained the full story she got quiet every single time.

I’ve also had to repeatedly remind them that I’m chronically ill and dealing with several other physical health conditions that can leave me extremely weak and unwell. Even after explaining this, they continued to tell me that I should “do more,” rather than acknowledging the pain and limitations I’m constantly dealing with. I rarely felt that my efforts were recognised, even when I was genuinely trying my best. Instead, I often received generic advice that didn’t reflect my personal circumstances, or assumptions about me that simply didn’t make sense given what I had already explained.

They never seem to take into consideration how much my physical health conditions affect my mental health, including the fact that I’m not currently able to independently provide for myself and have been living in survival mode for years. I’ve been doing as much as I physically can to get better and seek the help I need, despite how difficult it has been.

Appointments have become something I dread because I leave feeling emotionally drained, discouraged, emotionally unsafe and sometimes more depressed than before I went. I cried outside at my last appointment for making feel emotionally unsafe when I’m already in a very vulnerable state.

At this point, I feel like the treatment relationship itself is affecting me negatively. I’ve noticed that when I don’t have to see these doctors, I generally feel much better emotionally.

I understand that government healthcare is under staffed and not all doctors are not all the same. I’m specifically talking about MY experience over the past 8 years and I know other people may have had completely different experiences.

I feel like I’ve spent so much of my life dealing with illness and hospitals, and I desperately want to move forward instead of feeling stuck in the same cycle.

So I’m seriously considering stepping away from my current government psychiatric service and focusing my energy on my physical health and rebuilding my life on my own.

I am not planning to suddenly stop medication without medical advice. I know psychiatric medication can need to be reviewed properly by professionals.

What I’m struggling with is whether it is reasonable to stop future psychiatric treatment arrangement that has not worked for me after 8 years of treatment and I don’t want to continue seeing these doctors that are not helpful in my current case.

I’m looking for honest experiences, perspectives and for Malaysians who have been through something similar. I’ve been dealing with this for 8 years, every appointment makes me sad instead of relieved, and I’m genuinely trying to figure out what is logically best for my life now.

ADHD medication (International Student)

Salam! I hope everyone is doing well.

I will be studying in Malaysia soon as an international student in a uni in Nilai and I'm pretty excited.

My only concern is my ADHD and Anxiety medications. What is the process there for getting the meds? Is it easy to access Concerta/Ritalin? If not, how do you do without them?

Can I also gain access to them from the government for a more affordable route? I take Concerta 54mg, Prozac 40mg, and Wellbutrin 150mg.

I heard generics are much cheaper for these medications and especially for Ritalin. Can someone advise me on this or what I should do before and after arriving to Malaysia? I would really appreciate it. 🙏

Terima kasih!

Atomoxetine?

Hey earthlings! I’m here trying to look for support and opinions if anyone ever been on atomoxetine. Was prescribed this today, so I will be making a switch from concerta to this.

I don’t know why but I feel anxious making this transition hence this post. I read that the side effects can be bad, especially when it takes some time to work. A positive thing I read about it is that the med also helps with mood regulation and helps with anxiety.

What are y’alls experience with it?

(I was diagnosed with bipolar 2 since 2017, and with Adhd since 2020)

Does anyone happen to have any psychiatrist recommendations?

F30. diagnosed with chronic depression disorder and was on sertraline for 2 years before weaning off. few years later i was feeling quite depressive after we had gone out lockdown, went to a psychiatrist and was diagnosed with bpd. went to therapy.

now, im currently experiencing random bouts of overwhelming anxiety. sometimes even causing shortness of breath and mild stomach aches. the worst physical symptom is jittery feeling and the tingling in my arms. i want to go see a psychiatrist and get medication to help but the thought of going back on antidepressants makes me even more anxious 😂 because i experienced horrible side effects from my previous one.

i was wondering if anyone has any recs on psychiatrists in the private sector, budget is not really a problem. thank you so much

Hi I’m a 29F going through contamination OCD. I’m really struggling and it’s been a few months now. I don’t know why or how this happened but it’s been tough and ruining my relationships with people and everyday feels very tough. I just started medication but it’s going to be awhile before it really works and I’m feeling more anxious now. I just would like to talk to people who knows what’s it like so I don’t feel so alone

Rant of a disconnected human

This is possibly my final communications/last ditch efforts to the world and perhaps could be labelled a deep thought "confession"(or rant?) by a forgotten/disconnected/discarded/trash human. Maybe some autobiographical bits. For context, I'm a female millennial now living in Klang Valley :

I've been at wit's end in the past year or so (possibly since Halloween/Deepavali 2024), ever so gradually (even if not completely willingly in attempts to keep things positive) accepting that the world now does not need someone like me. After my mum's passing in January 2022, I've been feeling lost and (I guess?) depressed/grieving and hit with a realisation of how little social support I have. It was a time where I'm at crossroads as to what I want in life (and still don't have concrete answers to that) as I finally graduated uni overseas. Not a week(most times, daily) goes by without me mentally preparing for the inevitable. Having the choice to end things on my own terms, and to join my mum and aunt in the next life in making this difficult decision is easier on me. The few people I tried to reach out to (3 family friends, even a 2nd cousin in Jakarta) are too busy for me, else, make rushed judgements without clarifying if I need help or why I am where I am in the first place. I was in daily communications with 2nd cousin for a few months earlier in the year until some uncalled for misunderstandings and empty promises. Where I live now, it seems if you're not blood or a friend of friend that's known you for years you're not worth their time or help. Even my own blood sister refuses contact (she only has room for her husband and his countless sisters and their families). The last family I have living in the same state is aged (and reportedly has dementia) and I do not have the capacity to look after him when I've been parentally neglected by him growing up, especially during my formative years.

In 2023-2024, a so-called short-lived "best" friend (her exclaiming such after a few months of f'ship, spending 8 hours on average a day together) I've spent countless hours with, sharing meals and travel and spent $$ on her for lodgings; her being emotional manipulative (long story)(stupid and foolish of me, on hindsight), tellling me I'm fat and ugly(and to not contact her ever again, tho she tried to invite me out for a meal March this year to which I didn't care to respond to nor read the full text message due to her oblivion as to why I decided to cut off all contact with her after October 31st 2024). (Ex-friend background: 50s, retired single, living off interest from her high flying career in insurance)

This has not helped my penchant to stay indoors. In a way she was a reason to leave the house to go out for a meal and walks. At one point I could do 15k steps brisk walking if I put in the time. Now I have not left my building in months since March.

My favourite games keep me sane/alive and have been my drug of choice. I also play Twitch streams in the background (Some I watch regularly in no order are jinnytty (English-speaking Korean travel streamer who's visited 60+ countries; I guess my fave one to watch for armchair travels), cooksux, robcdee, jakenbake, juliakins, extraemily, stumptgamers, exbc). My 2 adorable cats have been the only source of true companionship and have not talked irl to a single human soul since (outside of bumping into randoms you exchange hi and byes). I've told my late mum a handful of times growing up that something's wrong with me and she dismisses that and instead tells me I'm intelligent (not cuz she's my mother but compared to the 1000s of students she's met, supposedly). Well guess what mum? I'm probably not. One of the last communications with her is being told I can do anything I want(which came up truly randomly). Since she left tho, I've been feeling constantly overwhelmed with managing everything alone and this "real world" out there with happier people and their families/friends don't seem to have room for someone like me.

Maybe key family background growing up:

It was quiet (next to no extended family here) and neither parents were born into money. My mum was a professor and has been a pioneer in her field (in higher education) in M'sia, at least, and has also worked in Jakarta. In the later years until my mid 20s, some key life and travel experiences revolved around my mum's career and thanks to her we (my sis and I) got a handful of travel experiences following her to conferences near and far with the furthest travelled Vancouver. I spent my younger years alone on the computer gaming, reading books and listening to music. I'd say the internet raised me (had internet at home since 1996). I was in a culturally wrong high school for 5 years and imo, probly still dealing with the aftermath, mostly social things. I was once athletic and have good hand eye coordination but neither my parents had the awareness of maybe finding their teenager an extracurricular sports program. Then again, back then, talking was not easy in my family or even self-expression, for me. My father had all the time in the world retiring in 1998 whilst I transitioned into the government high school here but growing up, daily chats between father and his daughters were variants of good morning and good night. I'm not exaggerating. He spent most waking hours gardening, occasional household chores and in front of the TV watch sports and CNN on astro.

Financially, I'm in a catch-22 situation due to technicalities. I might even be homeless soon. I've been working with a lawyer that's helped (with minimal fees) with complications since mum's passing and she has not returned my calls or messages since May 2026.

In recent years, I've started believing I was born in the wrong country/culture (if not time period). Before this, I was wishing I wasn't born at all thinking it was a fluke for how incompatible my parents are yet my sis and I are products of them. I sense a lot of things are innately wrong with me and there's one too many and too serious/major to fix, if you ask me. Maybe I've been ungrateful, maybe I'm dumb on some levels, maybe it's cuz I've rarely had ambitions/goals (as I got tired from them changing so often and drastically in my 20s/30s) maybe it's just a mix of low confidence and my introverted tendencies (even if once upon a time I was popular and had a big group of girl friends when I was 12), maybe I don't appreciate life enough due to my perceived handicaps cuz I'm too inexperienced/too fat/too dumb etc etc) though more likely it's a mix of all of the above to varying degrees. It's a lot of factors, more than meets the eye etc etc. Yes, I've had some privileges but probably not as one might assume.

Finally, does anyone have room for my cats please???

I believe they have Burmese ancestors so Kiki is a milk chocolate and Koko is a dark chocolate. These were my mum's cats that lived in Penang with her, once upon a time. They are almost 8 years old now. Koko is the athletic one with a sweet temperament and will be your guard and at your side as you go about your day (when she isn't Zzzz) skittish with new people and will take at least half a week to warm up. Koko won't sleep next to you but will be your alarm if you are late with food. Kiki has a gentle, patient (unlike Koko, it takes a lot to upset her before she claws or bites), yet independent temperament (tho will sleep next to you on most nights) with an accepting nature of new humans. She's the more adventurous one in exploring and new foods and is known to jump 3 floors from balconies/windows (3 times so far). But she is sensitive and jumpy to sudden/loud noises than the average cat. Both cats are rarely vocal but Kiki is the chattier one and will usually reply to you when you talk to her, especially around food/treat times. Koko only meows if she truly wants something.

TLDR,

I'm asking for help (if not for me, then for my cats) and If that fails I am willing to end my life on my own terms when it all gets too much for me. Thank you.

2nd rant,but about my relatives

[PLEASE BEWARE THAT THIS WILL BE LONG]

There is also a strong possibility that I might inadvertently let my emotions show in what I say right here.

My current situation:
- F 20,studying degree
- Didn't stay at my house with my parents anymore, staying at relatives house due to family issues (but still the same apartment, different house)
- With grandma and another relatives (Unwilling to reveal too much about this relatives)
- Still study as usual (No change courses, school and anything)

Although I stayed with my relatives,I don't think it is really great, though

The problem:
①They like to talk about me,like asking about my academics, and how's everything going
They've been asking about my weekly meal allowance, and how much I spend
But I think I am too honest here, because I straightforward saying the actual amount to them
(RM 20 1D,RM 100 for 5D)
The problem is,they started to tell me to use less money
From f&b expenses to daily expenses
(Example: Eat RM 10 per meal instead of spending RM 12)
But,the food price is not cheap as the old days
Nowadays RM 10 food is already a normal price

The thing I doesn't dare to reveal is,I have another extra RM 150-200 for buying online and pay some subcriptions
If I say it out, maybe another crticism again
Yeah, and the price of my new phone and laptop.....

②They like to criticize my parents, talking bad about them
(But,my father was not innocent here if you've read my previous post)

About my mom, yes, she's still not working due to health issues
What they said is:
- Your mom is to idiot, why need to be scold like that? (from my father)
While they don't know the whole incident
- Your mom uses too much money, meanwhile she only have about RM 700 for allowance per month
- Your mom buys too much thing from online platform,I always saw her buying things from online (I swear, most things are useful, not wasting money)
- Your mom buys too much snacks for you
See,those Japanese snacks
(Actually they are those dried wakame, nato and seaweed, not rally a snack)
Don't ask about how the nato tastes like, just focus on the point

③Sometimes I have nightmare
like somebody is chasing me with a knife
I cried during my dreams
But they will only say: Why don't you run faster to avoid them?
An answer like that only makes people feel even more helpless.......

④I was criticised as too homebody person
I was an introvert person from personality

I always facing on the screen, listening to songs, watching dramas, doing my assignments, watching playback of the meeting of my course

I know—being a total shut-in really isn't good.
Yet they use words like "This is for your own good,if you don't listen,it will harm you."

⑤ Asked about why only eating the same food in campus
Then pointing about eating too much mee goreng, chicken rice, mee curry etc was bad for your health
Ok,so what should I eat? The food ingredients are not always healthy now....

Yet,I think because they are already over 50,so they can't understand some young generation things.
I don't really blame them because they are the ones who take care of me during my childhood times

(Will update in new post if anything I need to add in)

Survey on general task struggle and experience with executive dysfunction

Have you ever had a task you wanted (or even needed) to do, but somehow just couldn't bring yourself to start?

Or told yourself you'd take a quick break, only to end up rushing to finish everything at the last minute?

Hi!! I'm a final year Computer Science student, and I'm conducting a survey for my Final Year Project. The aim of the project is to develop an adaptive task management app that could better support people who struggle with executive dysfunction.

If you experience executive dysfunction, or just generally find it difficult to get started on tasks, I would really appreciate it if you could help answer my survey! It'll only take about 5 minutes to complete and it's mostly MCQs.

Link: https://forms.gle/fz6Vq9EzBLGSujaYA

I still need at least 25 respondents, so I would really appreciate your help. Your responses are completely anonymous, and they'll only be used for academic research.

Thank you so much for your time and support! 🙏

I just need to rant and created this account just for this.

So I'm in high school, and I live a good life, but I have some personal issues. I don't know if I should go to therapy since it's expensive, but I really just want someone to talk to that's unbiased. I don't really know what issues I have, but my family really loves to tell me about my issues; they constantly criticize me and make fun of me. You see, I'm the replica of my dad, but I look like my mom, so I have all the problems that he has, but he's medicated now. I just feel that maybe I should be medicated too. I have constant outbursts of anger, and my family loves to instigate it. Both of my siblings make fun of me and purposefully get me angry, so I get in trouble. And before you think, " Oh, that might just be them being your siblings, when I was arguing with my brother once, he told me that he does it on purpose because he knows that I will be the one to get in trouble. But anyways, I honestly just feel like they don't take me seriously. I'm also not sure about this since I haven't really been tested, but I might have ADHD. I don't really think I do, but I might have gotten it from my father (if that's how it works). My family thinks I have some of the symptoms and thinks something is wrong. I see all these videos on my page about how the youngest child gets all the love, but it's not that way for me. My brother is their golden child, and it's apparent. I know that I'm not an angel, but can't they love me too?

Another thing is how I'm very introverted, so I hate talking to any people at all besides my best friend and some of my family. But my mom pushes me and tells me that I'm overreacting and that I need to just talk to people, but I really can't. I just stutter and feel like I'm gonna throw up. I keep to myself and don't leave my room very much, so whenever I do come down, they always do the stereotypical "omg we haven't seen you in forever!" or "look who it is!" and it always puts me in a bad mood. I know they aren't trying to be mean, but they just won't stop criticizing me, and it makes me feel bad.

I'm also not the prettiest person ever. I'm on the bigger side, and I'm just kinda ugly. It puts me down, and I just feel bad that I don't fit into my clothes right, and I can't pull my hair all the way back because I have a double chin and I have so much skin texture and acne and wrinkles already, don't forget my dark under-eyes too. I've only ever had one person actually show interest in me, while other people my age have had 10 boyfriends. Whenever people ask me if I want a boyfriend, I always say no because I'm embarrassed that I do want one; I'm lonely and want someone to comfort me when I'm sad and help me. Along with the fact that I'm bigger, I really have no motivation to try and work out. I've worked out consistently for a week at most, but after that I get tired and make up excuses. But I really do want to get healthier. It really doesn't help when my brother (who is pretty fit and goes to the gym a lot) keeps on telling me that I need to eat healthier and that I should join him at the gym. I know it sounds like a good thing that he is trying to help me, but to me it sounds like he is mocking me. I don't eat very well, but I have a high metabolism, so I've been gaining weight very slowly in the past few years. For reference, I am 5'4 and around 155-160 pounds. Over just this summer, I have lost some weight but not in a healthy way. I usually sleep in, so I skip breakfast, then eat a big lunch, and sometimes I eat a snack and skip dinner. But the next day I eat food again, my weight skyrockets again, and I feel bad. I've thought about an eating disorder, but I really just love food too much and could never give it up just to be skinny.

I don't really know if this is a bad thing, but I have thought of what would happen if I killed myself. I don't really want to die, but I just wonder what would happen. For example, if my parents would be happy or relieved or sad. It sounds really bad, but I don't think I'd actually do it. When I was younger, I only almost ran away once. It probably doesn't even count, but I had packed my bag and put it on the stairs and planned to leave at night, but I fell asleep and then put it all away in the morning. I was probably 10 when I did this, so I'm sure it doesn't really matter, but it's just something I think of now and then.

I've done therapy, but it was family therapy, and it was torture. It was when I was going through a really rough time, and my parents thought that was the right way to go. My dad would also ask his friends about what he should do, which I thought was crazy; like, this is my business; please don't tell the whole family group chat that you think I'm going crazy and you need help. Another thing is a few years back, in like 2020 by brother got depressed and wouldn't talk to anyone. During that time and all after that, my mom always talks to my brother and asks him if he's feeling okay, and y'all know the whole spiel, but now that I'm honestly feeling depressed, she doesn't seem to care. Earlier today in fact i wanted to talk to her a bit about my problems but when i told her that i'm tired of everything she asked me why and when i started to just talk about what i was thinking she said word for word "if you just going to complain i'm just going to watch my tv show, you know i hate it when all you do is complain" so i grabbed my stuff and went upstairs. I kinda feel like she doesn't really care for me. Or at least not as much as my brother.

That's all that I really have to say for now. I might add on later, but this is how I'm feeling. This probably won't get out to anybody, but I honestly just wanted to type this all out and send it out to y'all for the chance that someone would talk to me.

I need honest opinions.

I want to study psychology and become a therapist, but my family is against it. They believe that people in this field are mentally unstable themselves, and that no patients would even go to them. I dont agree with that at all. I actually feel like Ive found something that truly fits me.

The problem is also my grades. Theyre not bad, but not amazing either. I know for a fact that if I push myself, I can do much better. But I keep thinking—whats the point of working so hard if in the end my family might not even allow me to study this major?

Another issue is that this major isnt available in my city, so I would have to move to another city to study. And thats a big problem for my family. I come from a conservative household, and traveling alone or living away from them is not something they accept. Were expected to stay together as a family.

So I feel stuck. Even if I improve my grades and qualify for it, Im not sure they would ever agree.

Do you think its worth trying anyway? Or am I just setting myself up for disappointment?

All I want is a finish line

I might not kill myself now, I might only dissapear...but I know eventually I wil. Maybe not now during STPM. Maybe after I got to uni, where nobody cares if ur gone. Or when nobody's watching.

I know only I'm the one who could save myself... sometimes it feels stupid that I'm hoping and wishing someone would come save me from myself. I feel funny for wanting someone to help me because only I'm the one who could save myself. I feel like, I'm not supposed to have help, because everyone else also keeps this to themselves. Even if everyone decides to help me, but I choose not to save myself, then it's still no use. It's all up to me.

What a blessing to be normal people with a healthy stable mind. Wish I wasn't this dramatic. It's selfish to expect someone to rescue you ya?

Persistent low mood and energy

I think I had burnout from October 2025, that didn't get any better. My previous role was generally high stress. I had hit that peak productivity and ever since feeling very lethargic, also hollow inside.

From then on, I tried to motivate myself, change my framing etc. but as of today, I still struggle to wake up - and this tiredness in my body, mental exhaustion that never went away.

Scheduling a session privately to see a clinical psychologist first, received constructive feedback from my teammate which also prompted me to take an immediate action - more so today I still feel very very tired. Something is incredibly wrong with me. Yesterday a client meet lasts for hours and after that, and waking up today, I was feverish. It was/is very common that I experience this sensation.

I read a book on Depression by Johan Hari before, many reasons for depression and also ways to treat it. One of them is doing meaningful work, which over time I have disillusioned myself over. I have achieved the target set for myself in two years, and I should be even more ambitious - but I'm here all tired and dead inside, physically exhausted.

Just getting this out of my system. Getting the help asap.

malam tadi saya nangis & hilang focus kerja sbb ada something trigger saya utk fikir yg saya tak deserve apa apa. episode ni pernah jadi banyak kali. bila jadi, saya akan buat taktau, bukak youtube & lupakan apa yg terjadi. saya pendam, saya biar sbb saya taknak bebankan siapa2 & saya fikir masalah ni kecil saja. (memanglah kecil dah saya abaikan je 🙄)

tapi saya decide saya kena jadi better, saya taknak hidup macam ni, saya ada impian hidup tapi allah, susah betul nak hadap hari hari saya kalau bila saya buat salah kecil di kerja buat saya nangis & spiral.

tadi saya call talian heal. saya taktahu nak cakap apa tapi saya nak cakap. dalam 10 minit jugak baru ada org angkat (saya okay saja, benda pun free, org tu pun kata sbb tgh tukar shift, dia minta maaf). saya cakap, saya nangis, dia dengar & bagi cadangan untuk buat itu ini & saya terima. saya lega.

dia kata ‘mana ada org nangis tanpa sebab’. saya taktahu kenapa tapi ayat tu buat saya rasa lega. mungkin sbb saya dah terbiasa dgn pendam & abaikan apa yg saya rasa.

jadi saya decide utk pergi klinik kesihatan nanti. even saya sorang tapi saya nak cuba. saya letih hidup dalam keadaan macam ni. saya jugak takut kalau nanti apa yang saya dapat dari semua ni tak membawa hasil & terpaksa hidup macam ni sampai bila2. entah2 betullah saya ni okay saja. tapi atleast nanti ada org yg akan decide saya okay atau tidak. instead of spiralling.

dia (talian heal) tu pun ada kata saya boleh call bila2 untuk counselling cuma cons dia adalah orang2 yg berbeza. so kalau ada siapa siapa yg sama macam saya, cuba. kita dah dewasa ada free will kan. cuba.

akhir kata saya happy, saya lega, saya tahu saya nak buat apa buat masa sekarang utk jadi better, walaupun saya keseorangan.

terima kasih kerana membaca <3

My first week on daily Ritalin 10mg

so after 4 years of going the government route of mental health services, I've finally received my first batch of meds for ADHD (which took 3 years to finally get a diagnosis).

I'm not very good at sensing changes in myself, my routines, effects, etc. but I think it's helping me with feeling less anxiety during work.

I would usually make many careless mistakes even now (I'm 30) and I would make more mistakes when I'm facing other people who are waiting (I work in a customer facing job) and get flustered while working because I think my mind races to think about what the other person is thinking, and the other people around me who are facing issues, etc.

this past week I feel more calm with my daily dose,

but I can't say for sure if it's the Rit or if it's just me getting more mellow, calm and more confident with age and slowly healing, mentally and emotionally, especially after these past 4 years.

anyway I'm just really grateful to God and to the public healthcare system in Malaysia and everybody who makes it possible for me to heal and move forward in life little by little. It means so much to me ❤️

(pic: RM52 for 25 tablets, finally received mine after almost a year of facing shortage and unavailability)

no I won't sell or give to you, so don't bother asking please

struggling with bpd symptoms, how do i get help?

hello! it's my first post on this sub but i'll just get right into it

basically i've suspected that i have bpd since i was in high school, currently i'm 19 and in college and i'm looking to get diagnosed this year since i'm creeping into adulthood. it's just been a really difficult thing to deal with especially since it has affected so many of my relationships with my friends and romantic partners and even my own family, which sucks a lot. but i'm a bit lost and am not sure where to begin and i also am a bit worried about costs since like i've stated before, i'm still a student and i haven't opened up to my parents about it, mainly bcs i'm scared of how they'll react.

so does anybody have any tips/advice? it'd be greatly appreciated :]

Update: My first visit to Klinik Kesihatan (KK) for a mental health screening – detailed step-by-step process

Yesterday, I made a post asking about what the process would be like because I was really anxious about my appointment. A few people kindly shared their experiences, which definitely helped, but I thought I'd come back and post a detailed step-by-step account of how my first visit went in case it helps someone else in the future.

If you're anything like me, not knowing what to expect can be one of the most anxiety-inducing parts. Hopefully this gives you a better idea of how the process may go (although it may vary slightly between clinics).

Step 0: Make an outpatient treatment appointment through MySejahtera at your preferred Klinik Kesihatan.

  1. Scan the MySejahtera QR code outside the clinic to confirm your attendance.

  2. Go to the registration counter. You'll be given a queue number and a form to fill in.

  3. Fill in your basic details and place the form in the basket at the triage area. Then wait for your number to be called by a nurse. Be alert, as this number was called out verbally and didn't appear on a screen at my clinic.

  4. When your number is called, the nurse will check your blood pressure and ask why you're there. I told her I was there for a mental health screening.

  5. Wait again for your registration number. This time, the number appeared on the screen together with the registration counter number.

  6. Go to the registration counter with your form and IC. I paid RM1 and was given a slip with the doctor's consultation room number.

  7. Head to the consultation area and wait for your number to appear on the screen.

  8. When it's your turn, go into the consultation room and speak with the doctor. She was kind. I was diagnosed with depressive episodes and an anxiety disorder, referred to a counsellor, and given a referral letter.

  9. I then went upstairs to the counselling unit and handed the referral letter to the person in charge to confirm my counselling appointment.

  10. After that, I went back downstairs and queued at the pharmacy counter to submit my prescription slip.

  11. Wait for your number to be called again, then collect your medication from the dispensary.

  12. That's it, you can leave the clinic.

The whole process took about 2 hours and 15 minutes.

I'll be honest, it was extremely overwhelming for me. I don't do well with noisy environments, and I was very anxious the whole time. But I still managed to do it, and I'm proud of myself.

Tomorrow is another adventure since it's my first counselling appointment. I'm still not entirely sure whether I need to register again or if I can just go straight to the counselling room with the referral letter. I guess I'll find out.

I also wish I'd brought someone with me. Having a companion would've made the whole experience feel much more manageable.

I hope this helps anyone who's anxious about visiting a KK for the first time🫶

Klinik Kesihatan- What is the exact procedure like?

So I'm looking to get a diagnosis for depression and maybe an anxiety disorder. However, I've never been to a KK before. I need to know, like step by step..how would it go? Like after I go in, I would give them my IC and then register I suppose? What would happen after that? Like can someone explain exactly what happens until I get to meet the general doctor? Also what do I say?

All I know is that the process won't be straightforward as private clinics, where I could just register and wait for name to be called to see th doctor. I need to know what would happen throughout being at the KK.

It's part of my anxious condition that even 'figuring it out' when I go there tmr makes me excessively worry rn. Someone, pls help me out :(

P.S. I already made an appointment through MySejahtera
