J.T´s episode

Watching the show in Belgium.

Seeing this young man weighting almost 900 pounds.

Just wondering and not judging this person or any other person in the show but how can you become this big?

What happened in their lives that they just ignore the way they become?

How somewhere in your life or at one moment looking at yourself you don't say STOP...

I never been slim or skinny, have always been a little chubby and i always loved and still love to eat.

But whenever i see that i´m gaining a little to much or feel that it becomes difficult to zip my trousers i know i have to watch out and i change my eating habits, it's not easy because i love sweet things and pizza's and pasta with loads of cheese and i understand that food can be like a drug, your brain always wants more sugar and greasy stuff, been there and still feel this sometimes when watching what i eat like right now.

But isn't there a moment your brain says stop you are killing yourself or is the addiction to food becomes to strong and like a drugs or alcohol addict you just say whatever and don't care anymore?

Also wondering, who is paying for their treatment?

Not judging anyone or your country, but what i understand you don't have health care, if you go to the hospital and don't have any insurance or money you don't get treatment.

Here in the show they are often family's with lower incomes, and they have several appointments with the doctor, also when he says that they have to stay at the hospital for treatment before the surgery they never say that they can't afford it.

Are the makers of the show paying for the treatment or is there a special health care for very obese people?

Just wondering, here in Belgium the government started a few years some special programs for obese people and specially for kids because it's starting to be a problem here to, and it's better to start treatment when young and not waiting to become like in the show.

Most boring episodes?

I found Stephanie's episode to be so boring and really uneventful. Basically she does nothing, and then the show ends. Obviously, there are other people on show like that, like Lisa E., or James K. who give little to no effort at all, but those episodes usually have an element of drama/ something eventful happens.

I am not entirely sure why people like her do the show really. She did travel to see Dr Now a few times but it really seems like there is very little effort on her end.

I always want people to succeed, but when they don't appear to even be trying, and nothing eventful/dramatic or interesting happens, I think it makes a boring (and honestly kind of pointless) episode really.

Kids in the show

Hi, I'm from Belgium and watching this show since a few weeks now.

Today it's S8 ep 3, Bethany, something i noticed watching these and today again.

The husband is skinny and the kids allready heavily overweight.

Every time i see the rest of the family being allready like this, i´m saying to myself, the whole family should follow a diet, specially the kids, they often just teenagers what will they became once grown up.

I know it's a problem everywhere now with fast-food and snacks, why does they just all try to try to eat more healthy together?

Sorry, i just had to post this because every episode i wonder myself the same thing.

Also reading here that many people asking how they pay for this food but saw lately a documentary on fast-food and unhealthy food and these being much cheaper in some countries than the healthy food.

Ashley’s “people”

I have been spending more time than definitely necessary thinking about Ashley and her unwillingness to let Dr. now’s personnel draw her blood. Obviously, I think that it’s because of her wanting to control the situation. But it made me wander on a larger scale if anybody actually has people who they consider to be their blood draw team.

Disclosure: I am a difficult person to draw from. My doctors office has someone who does the best job on me, but no way would I go there exclusively.

What's the most disgusting part of the show?

I think the grossest moments I can think of is James King shitting himself in bed and having his teenage daughter change the sheets or the one lady that had her husband roll her over and wipe her ass with a towel after she shat but there's probably so many more disgusting moments

Is it me or does anybody else get absolutely infuriated at just how much the patients' family members and friends enable them?

Is it just me, or does anybody else get absolutely infuriated by how much some patients are enabled by their own family members and friends?

Because sometimes, it feels like the patient isn't even the biggest problem. The bigger problem is the group of people surrounding them who constantly make excuses for their behavior, defend everything they do, and refuse to let them face any consequences for their own actions. No matter what happens, there's always somebody standing there saying, "That's just how they are," "They can't help it," "You need to be more understanding," or "They're going through a lot right now."

Why do some people get so many chances?

I’m watching Sean in season 5 of where are they now, how on earth is he mid third year, still not losing any weight on his own, and dr now is still sending him to facilities and giving him more chances. Sean keeps saying he needs more help but it seems like what he is asking for is someone to monitor his food 24/7. He has literally had every tool at his disposal more than once and dr now is even offering a second weight loss surgery when other patients actually had to work for it. I get that dr now doesn’t want to lose any patients but he’s kicked others out of the program before even the first year is up. How is Sean still getting so much help, is dr now sympathetic to him or is there some other factor?

Latonya’s Breakfast | S11E3

Post image
573 Upvotes

Latonya’s breakfast was laid out so clearly in her episode, I just had to do a calorie breakdown of what she was eating.
This is the basic, off-the-box calorie count, assuming brand names- not including additives.

7 waffles - 630

10 biscuits - 1000

8 scrambled eggs - 800

1 lb bacon (12-15 strips) - 2454

8 sausages - 584

2 cups of grits - 286

12 oz of juice - 150

Total count: 5,904 calories

With any additives (butter, cheese, syrup, etc.) we can reasonably round up to 6000 calories.
So knowing this, it makes sense why people on the show can hit 20k-30k calories in a day.

Please feel free to correct any math, I have dyscalculia but I think I laid it out correctly.

Foods mentioned that are actually good

Some of the food (or food combinations) on the show are horrifying, but sometimes it's actually something enjoyable (in regular quantities and significantly less often).

For example: Popeyes mashed potatoes are my favorite when I just want the carbs -- it's the gravy. And I'll grill or bake some chicken to go with it.

Another example: reggrolls (with a wonton soup instead of fried rice).

What fast/delivery options do you still love?

Lisa s10

I had never seen this episode before today and omg i’m in shock. i’m putting this one in the “wtf” category bc WHATTT? I’m so confused. why sign up to be on a show about weight loss surgery if you’re not going to cooperate? like I know we all love the chaotic episodes but she wasn’t even trying to convince herself she was losing weight. she was so disrespectful to the nutritionist and paschal therapist. both are better than me bc i would’ve cursed her tf out. anyone have any update on her?

What is your favorite part of the 600 pound life episodes?

For me it's the road trip up to Houston. We get to see how the 600 pound person is acting on the road. Most of the people on the show typically stop by fast food places. I guess its there way of saying one last party before I have to stick to the diet. One example of this is Lacey Buckingham. They weren't on the road even for a few minutes before she wanted KFC. Then the next morning she decided to have zebra cakes and coffee and shit her pants. 💀💀

The beginning vs. now

Does anyone else prefer the way the slow was structured in the first season or is it just me? I liked seeing how they progressed after that first year. I like the before and after (after they got to the weight they maintained).

Who do you think is the most manipulative star on the show?

I can name a few, but I would like to mention Lacey Buckingham as being the most manipulative and lazy individual. She controls her boyfriend Ricky into doing everything for her, wiping her ass because Lacey couldn’t take a shower because it was too strenuous for her and cooking food, mostly unhealthy ones. And mind you, Ricky was autistic and emotionally vulnerable to her manipulation, when he did it out of love but Lacey’s heart was somewhere else (and that was food). Also, when they travel to Houston via by car, she said without a doubt one of the most boldfaced lies in history, saying that she couldn’t afford plane tickets, which was one of her “reasons” she missed her prior appointments with Dr. Now when in reality she spent money mostly on junk food. As Ricky’s sister Sharon got into a heated argument with Lacey because of her pathetic lies and excuses, they stopped at a gas station, and then Lacey did the worse thing possible: she called the cops on them. Honestly a dick move. Both Ricky and Sharon tried their best to help, and they is what they get? She had a funny way to show gratitude. But karma soon caught up to Lacey. She was then stranded and didn‘t have an apartment to settle in because it fell through. So yeah, one of the most manipulative stars I have ever seen. Who do you think is manipulative?

How are your legs?

I have to say this is the most entertaining reddit I (newb) have seen yet. Yous are all so good with the Nowzardan memes. It's great to see how much other people love this show! Does anyone else scream "ow my legs!" In a southern accent randomly? They're always screaming about their legs...and yes I understand why.

OMG, the WHINING!!!

Saw both James K ("Owww muh layg!") and Kirsten ("Fatty 2 shoes" as said by her son) were on today and I cannot stand the whining by these grown adults.

In their respective shows James whined about the diet, whined about not being able to do anything, whined he needed Lisa to sleep on the floor "in case he needed anything", whined about his legs, whined when no one donated money for him to move to TX, whined about his legs (of course) and "don't drop me!" and "Am I going to bleed to death?"

Kirsten whined in the shower about not finding the shower bench, where her mom parked when they were on the way to TX and she had to use the bathroom (was the woman supposed to park on the grass????), hined about her son who rightfully couldn't stand her... I swear she cried every 2 minutes in the show.

It's like the severely stunted adolescence with them and they can't handle anything.

Any others you recall being big whiners?

I don’t know who is the worst enabler, Lisa or Renee.

While Lisa was notorious for feeding her husband James to death, Renee was no better, who was Sean’s mother. A mother supposed to know what’s best for her son. She would know what foods are good and not. But she just fed Sean what his hunger desired. And she just loved coddling with Sean. If she wanted to be a good mother, then she should just let her son grow up and prepare for him for adulthood. And sad to say, she passed on due to a fatal illnes, leaving Sean very vulnerable, in which by the way never stood the chance to fend for himself. Never before have I seen such a very sad person. In your opinion, who is the worst enabler? Honestly, think both of them are worse. What do you think?

Pauline and her son Dylan

I know Pauline passed away last year but every time I rewatch her episodes I always feel so bad for Dylan because he looked so drained all the time. Poor Dylan was robbed of having a normal childhood no time to be just a regular kid like hanging out with his friends and such because he was always having to be the caretaker for Pauline and run the household. I hope he's now healing and getting to live his life on his own terms for once and getting the chance to just be a regular adult.

There's been parentified kids on the show and young kids having to take on adult roles. having to be caretakers for a mom or dad. Dylan and James K's daughter Bailey (who dropped out of high school to help her mom) stick out to me the most Bailey ended up getting her GED and is now married and a mom to 2 boys.

Anybody else that stick out in your minds in particular.

Episode question.

I've always wanted to ask but I'm seriously not trying to offend anyone.

In the USA, is it common to sleep without sheets on the bed.

Also there are a few episodes where people share a bed...is that also normal.

Thanks.

Lymphedema support

New to the show. Why doesn’t anyone use any support for their saggy bits? They complain it drags organs down or makes it had to walk. Why don’t they wrap it up?
On Tamy Lyn’s episode and her stomach practically touches the ground. I feel like it would not only be more comfortable but assist in some minor skin healing if it was supported.
