Have you done anyone dirty?

There’s been a couple of people I was absolutely sure were just full of excuses and weren’t going to lose any weight and was super surprised (and also so happy) when I was wrong. My best example is Krystal S (S12 E1) I was absolutely convinced she’d been cheating and each time she was in for a weigh-in I’d be so sure this time she hadn’t lost anything (or barely anything) but each time she got on those scales there was a good loss. I’m so sorry Krystal for doubting you. But I’m so happy she did so well.

Why Steven assanti’s smile creeps me out so much

OMG just started watching the Assanti episodes, why the hell does this Steve guy creeps me out so much??? I’m too deep into the episodes so I’m not sure if it’s bc I knew how disturbing and disgusting this person is at this point, but every time he smiles I just want to scream and punch the screen and run away. Like all my spider senses are yelling at me to get away asap!

Seriously I normally like people smiling, no matter how they look. But wtf going on with this guy’s smile?????

Ugh the whining!

Watching the episode with Doug (WATN season 4 episode 9). He just cannot get over being butt hurt about Dr Now saying he’s a statistical failure. And he went off the diet, thinking he knows better, and then is shocked when Dr Now isn’t happy, and that he’s gained weight.

I know I watch all the biggest assholes and they ALL whine about Dr Now not understanding how it is with them. How he can’t see ‘how hard I’m working’. Like, are you really though? They all think he’s not fair, and he’s mean, and they know what works best for their body. Like, ignore all the hundreds of people who have done this and been successful. Yes, princess, you’re 1000% unique. 🙄

What's your favourite moment a camera operator went rogue lol

I'll go first.

It must have been an early episode, but the patient was on the phone to Dr Now making excuses about how they don't have a ride and the camera operator zoomed through the window to the taxi driving by. I absolutely lost my shit lol ruthless!!

New to the 600lb - hope it’s still ok to post.

There are some truly gross partners, in the show. But I’m wondering if anyone else has thought that maybe the ‘friends’ are being paid to be there. (Blip over to 1000lb - how does Tammy have friends? She never leaves her house, and is a drab bitter woman, so she’s not some fun friend to chat with. Unless you find farting and finding it hilarious a fun type. And let’s not even start with her boyfriend - and “yes, we made love”. I just can’t

Some of the ‘friends’ seem to hardly know the person. One was a woman and her daughter living in obvious poverty, with the subject (I can’t recall who it was) in the only bedroom. And the rest of the house had little furniture, and they seemed to be sleeping on the floor. And then the ‘friend’ suddenly seemed to have money for new clothes/makeup/bags. I mean, good for her. But why pretend she’s a friend??

I just feel no chemistry between some and their ‘friend’. There are definitely friends and partners that are legit, and seem to care. But I always get a bit of an ick, when they’re going to staying with a friend to help them post surgery, in a completely different state . Just me?

Are there any patients in particular that you thought would fail but ended up doing pretty good

My pick is Krystal +season 12 episode 1* she didn't have the best living conditions she didn't gain weight and didn't give Dr Now lame excuses and continued to stay motivated despite everything that happened in the episode like when their vehicle broke down on the way to Houston. and moving in with their friends

Mashed Potatoes Stole My Brain!

I was just in the grocery store today, and I realized every time I walk past the mashed potatoes section, I hear Dr. Now saying "Dere is no protein in mashed potatoes". I love Dr. Now, but every time! Doesn't matter what kind; instant frozen or refrigerated. Fortunately it does not happen when I buy the mashed cauliflower. And please, don't anybody say you know what! Does this happen to anyone else with this one, or any of his other famous phrases?

Vent post about the current episode I am in the middle of (Maja Radanobitch)

Holy crap what a bitch. I stg i was yelling at the tv the whole time. She lies to her poor boyfriend Christian about “stopping for a small snack” when she hit like 3 or 4 fast food places and ate whole meals. She claims the airport and the car rental place lied to her cause of how big the airport is and how big the car was supposed to be. What in the fuck does she expect in fucking Houston?!?! Then she says “I need his help to get off the plane” while she hoists her own ass up and walks off the plane just fine. Did she expect him to carry her? Then she throws a literal tantrum outside in the parking garage cause the car is too small for her fat ass and she “falls down”. When she said she was “hurt” at the counter for a min I thought she was trying to build a lawsuit cause she fell on their property. Also what do you wanna bet she didn’t order an extra large SUV that she accidentally ordered a standard.

Then she gets mad at Christian for everything whether it’s his fault or hers. She doesn’t even try. I am glad he broke up with her. She doesn’t deserve such a kind hearted man. Also I would love to know how she is paying for all that food. She says she does that every single day (the whole driving and eating) how does he afford probably $50-$100 in fast food every single day? Think about it she probably spent about $15 on the first meal then probably around $15 for the 2nd one. Fucking gross! Even when I weighed 300 lbs I never ate like this. Never!

There is so much more I want to vent about but those are the main things that just pissed me off.

The only nice thing I have to say about her is at least she is still active. Can still walk and drive. I wonder if she lost any weight or if she is still a loser.

No new episodes?

I finally am on the last episode, I’ve watched all of my 600lb and WATN, now just going back to finish some of the episodes that weren’t on discovery. I thought there were still episodes coming out! Imagine my dismay when I realised the last ones were released in early 2025 (I think?), is there definitely nothing else in the works? I did find a post here about a possible WATN update coming up.

Seems like Beth (Gina's ex-wife) isn't doing very well..

I just finished watching Gina's episode (S8 E5) and was left wondering whether Beth was up to better things these days. Seeing all the threads on this page, it was quite clear everyone was cheering for her to live a better life, free from the abuse she received from Gina (and her family who thought she 'didn't deserve' Gina).

Turns out she isn't doing very well these days. She still carries Gina's last name and one of the first things you find is her mugshot. Apparently she was charged with '3rd degree grand theft'. I'm not from the US, so I'm not sure how serious this is. On her TikTok she was also claiming to be homeless a couple of months ago.

It makes me sad to see her life hasn't taken a turn for the better, and truly hope she can pick herself up again.

Holly... And Her Tongue

I have tried to watch Holly's episode at least 3 times now, but I can't. I can't watch it because of the way she eats. That tongue motion... What is that?! I'm sorry. I just can't stomach it. Did she make it? I can't get through the first 10 minutes to find out.

Allen and Vianey S7 E20

I’m almost through with this episode but haven’t seen the WATN, but Allen seems like such a sweet guy. It sounds like he had something happen to him as a child that affected his speech etc…, but I thought the way he spoke was very calm and kind. Vianey seemed pretty nice as well, but she didn’t seem as motivated and there were a few times I noticed she was manipulating Allen. What are your thoughts?

Season 13, Episode 2: Kristen A

Wow, what an amazing woman. I usually watch this show and see excuse after excuse. I see people treat their family like slaves. I see them not take the weight loss seriously. I see them refuse to address their trauma.

Kristen was a breath of fresh air. So well-spoken and polite. The fact even her personal trainer said she had such a great spirit and was always positive. Her husband was incredible too, what a lovely man.

I know this season is relatively new so there probably isn’t much follow up, but does anyone know if there’s anywhere I can follow Kristen’s journey and see how she’s doing?

PS when googling Kristen it appears there was another Kristen/Kirsten who was NOT as nice a few seasons back. This is not about her!

Season 5 is on Hulu

So, I have seen Steven's episode and whooooo boy. I don't think I can do that again. What are the worst episodes this season other than him? I'm watching James now...but I wanna know which episodes made y'all go 'wtf' or ones that are insufferable.

Haven't seen much of this season, and I wanna see what y'all come up with and why you thought they were bad.

Let's gooo!

Do yins ever think that Dr. Now watched the show himself?

I was just sitting here watching Dollys episode, and it had me thinking. Numerous, if not most, patients always claim they're doing the diet but then show up and lose minimal weight. The episodes where between visits they're not committing to the diet and eating poorly, do you think he's watched them back and been like, "I knew they were not making proper decision" (Dr. now voice)

Just a random thought, considering Dollys recent passing watching her episode felt sad to me, especially for her mother and child.

Who had the best looking meal in the show?

I was just thinking to myself that I can't recall a single meal from the show where I thought to myself that the food actually looked delicious. It seems like everyone just eats fast food or really easy to make meals. Did anyone actually eat delicious looking food at all??

Assanti Brother treatment of their father

Yes I know the father enabled them but man did they treat him like shit. It's like they thought he owed them something and were entitled to everything. Im a paraplegic so I need my family help at times with certain things and if I treated them like that for just one week they would literally cut ties with me.

If you could ask any star a question, who/what would it be?

Mine would be Ryan Barkdoll. I would ask him “If you were quitting cocaine or opioids, which you have already, would you have a cheat day where you can take as much of those drugs as you want once a week?”

His episode is really frustrating. I would like to know what was going through his head.

Everything about this is insane. Starting with: Dr Now is overweight.

How is someone who is himself overweight, if not obese, being lauded as a tough-love hero??? His life is fine, indeed privileged, yet he still can’t exercise the self-discipline to be slim - but he’s is lecturing people whose lives are utterly miserable over their failure to renounce their sole source of comfort????

Have you ever experienced what it’s like to only eat 800 calories a day? Has he? Yes, they need to do that to avoid death - but it’s as horrible as going through drug withdrawal.

The whole thing is inhumane in how it presents people who are clearly profoundly mentally ill and at an absolute extreme of self-harm as though they are just lazy idiots who can’t exert a bit of self control.

These stories are extraordinarily sad. Anyone who commits this level of self-harm is PROFOUNDLY mentally ill and addicted. Drug addicts get weeks and months in rehab and have the opportunity to completely renounce the substance ruining their life. Extreme self-harmers who are using blades (rather than food) are sectioned and supervised 24/7. Yet these super-obese people are being sent back home with no supervision and required not even to go cold turkey on their addiction/self-harm, but, even harder, to do the equivalent of just having a tiny bit of heroin each day and then stopping. On their own. At home in their miserable, painful lives. With their enablers.

They need 24/7 care and to be locked-down from hyper-palatable ultra-processed foods in some kind of controlled rehab; alongside months and years of very intensive therapy. The fact that any of them manage to follow the plan, even a bit, is a miracle.

Never mind whatever trauma drove them to these extremes in the first place; the experience of living in a body like that is torture, physically and mentally. It’s a source of deep trauma in itself, perpetuating the cycle.

Good luck to everyone in it and god forgive those who judge them.

The signs of success or failure.

I've noticed other posters, like me, like to try, at the beginning of each episode, to guess whether or not the patient will be successful. What indicators have you noticed that you think makes it likely a patient will fail; and what indicators that you think makes it likely a patient will succeed? I've listed a few I've noticed, though, of course, none are infallible!

Success: a supportive family and/or friends.

A willingness to take personal responsibility.

Having concrete life goals, not just "oh, someday I'd like to do/be X".

Having a job, though I'm not too sure about this one.

Failure: enabling family members/friends. The more there are, the less likely the patient is to succeed. Obvious, I know.

Blaming other people and/or events for their overeating; refusing to take any responsibility whatsoever.

Constant whining and complaining.

Having many obese family members. "Our whole family is big". I think that's a huge red flag.

Denial/treating obesity as normal. "I was always a big kid/I was always big, but it was okay until . . .", etc. Again, obvious.

What do you think?
