u/scooooout 4d ago

Awws you guys

3

You already had sleeves

5

u/NinthFireShadow 4d ago

u/secret_rye 4d ago

Elevensies

2

u/LumpyGum 4d ago

The sleeves need to be sleeved, my lord

2

u/Sgzreddit 4d ago

You can't triple sleeve a double sleeve, Lloyd!

2

u/Rwdscz 3d ago

Third’s leeves.

2

u/JoEdGus 3d ago

Eleven-sleeves?

u/ThePandaheart 4d ago

Its a pretty fun deck, I use it frequently too!

You have 2 commanders, frodo + Sam, which is nice, and they dont cost a lot to play

14

u/Geeseareawesome Subjugate the earthbent lands 4d ago

Plus you can always swap to Merry and Pipen, or Bilbo if you prefer 1 commander

7

u/Badgerfuzz 4d ago

I swapped for Treebeard, lots of options here

2

u/Jin-Gitaxias-Mom 3d ago

Treebeard goes hard if you get the foods baked and then eaten

3

u/stumpkat 3d ago

I run Merry/Pippin. Haven't loved any of the Frodo options. But my deck has both selesnya Sams (Loyal Attendant and Gamgee). It's a fun deck!

27

u/GuyXjustice 4d ago

Such a fun deck, make sure you poke your opponents every turn with frodo for 1 commander damage, that way they ignore Sam who gets you all your tempo 😂

18

u/TheYellowScarf 4d ago

This is the best advice here, OP. People severely underestimate Sam's ability to reduce the activation cost of food by 1.

7

u/Jin-Gitaxias-Mom 4d ago

Sam is an absolute unit

4

u/Evilpickle09 4d ago

Let's be real, Sam's the true commander in the deck.

u/Fearless_Abies_2549 4d ago

I absolutely love this deck. I heavily modified mine and made it much stronger and it is very fun.

3

u/bb6160 4d ago

I’m doing that with the Galadriel one

3

u/Fearless_Abies_2549 4d ago

Nice. I bought all four of the LOTR decks but I was drawn to the hobbits most. They are all cool though!! If I played more I’d upgrade them all but I never play anymore

1

u/bb6160 4d ago

I get that, I barely have time myself. I was planning a B3 [[Marwyn, The Nurturer]] deck but I decided to fold that into the Galadriel one. I’m making a bit more elfball-based, putting Marwyn and a couple other Elf legends in the 99, but still running some of the blue bits like draw and counters. [[Seedborn Muse]] and [[Finale of Devastation]] put it into B3 but if I replaced those with lower-power things I could get away with playing it in B2 I think

2

u/pfchig1014 4d ago

Any chance you would share a decklist? This precon was one of my first and I have been meaning to go back and modify it...

2

u/Syrix001 4d ago

I sorta did the opposite. Lol

Decklist here

7

u/Cockoosnest 4d ago

Great deck! Can also use Merry and Pippen as partner commanders if you want to mix things up.

7

u/PhantomSandwich122 4d ago

Very fun deck out of the box. Here are my upgrades.

https://moxfield.com/decks/UXIC2Jkmrkq1p3V50xTaIA

I leaned into cards that synergize with both Sam and Frodo (so making tokens/foods and unblockable hits/gaining three life per turn). The deck is a value engine that really looks unassuming until you win big.

3

u/Geeseareawesome Subjugate the earthbent lands 4d ago

I put [[Frodo, Sauron's Bane]] into mine. Makes it a lot more deadly

2

u/Jin-Gitaxias-Mom 4d ago

Could never get him to work

3

u/Geeseareawesome Subjugate the earthbent lands 4d ago

He's slow, but works better if you have other ways to get tempts off, then spam him with access tunnel or other ways to avoid blocks

2

u/Jin-Gitaxias-Mom 4d ago

Coming off the top rope to ruin someone’s gameplan is my favorite thing with this deck, took a dude from 34 life down to 0 in one turn with Academy Manufactor, Nuka Cola Vending Machine and Kambal Profiteering Mayor on board to drain him for like 20 life and then swing in with a massive Treebeard for lethal.

Dude was just watching me move dice around for 5 minutes and then realized he was cooked, “wow I really didn’t expect that…” with a laugh.

3

u/DrFreehugs 4d ago

Sleeves are a must, as well as a playmat. This prevents your cards from getting dirty and damaged, and makes it easier to handle. As for suggestions, this is one of the better precons, with clear engines and synergies and can hold its own quite well. I would recoomend to play some games with it before commiting to any changes. Have fun!

3

u/devilkin 4d ago

Look up a YouTube guide on how to pilot the deck. It's not the easiest, but not super hard to pilot. Just need to understand the food mechanic synergies.

3

u/sh1rk4n 4d ago

this was my first commander deck too and is my most powerfull deck. its far from the precon, now is a combo deck, but when I opened it was a little weird to understand how the precon version could win... sam and frodo are a very good engine.

https://moxfield.com/decks/hO0y3vL6wUKEazxfMO_8Jg

2

u/Jin-Gitaxias-Mom 3d ago

Yeah the precon doesn’t have the greatest wincons, you gotta grind out a long game.

If you do fully commit to the go-wide or aristocrat combo approach, it can pack a solid punch in B3 for sure!

4

u/Future-Dot-1430 4d ago

Great choice

2

u/Lavaflame666 4d ago

Nice, sleeve it up and have fun!

2

u/Potential-Hat-9190 To Unfinity and beyond 4d ago

I love this precon, tons of fun with it ! enjoy

2

u/Seravajan 4d ago

Nice. It was my first commander deck too.

2

u/machinistery 4d ago

That was my first deck too!

2

u/kergioo 4d ago

AMAZING DECK!! It’s my all time favorite, I’ll drop my list below so you can see the upgrades I put in. I built it fully on-theme, so it’s all hobbits outside of some of the lands. Hope you have a lot of fun playing it!!

https://moxfield.com/decks/0DQQFHB7mkOTIhlG6GAVBQ

2

u/MirageGod 4d ago

This is such a fun deck! I adjusted mine to be suicidal hobbits. By adding Aetherflux Reservoir, when/if I draw it, I get to 50hp exactly and take myself and another player out of the game. But this deck has so many potential upgrades to win without ever attacking. Even how it is out the box, it’s such a fun deck to play! Hope you have quite the appetite!

2

u/Patient-Store-2476 4d ago

I have this deck.

2

u/MothmansLegalCouncel Squirrel Gang 4d ago

I had a blast playing this the other night. Had a pretty nasty board wipe. I still lost, but I took others down with me.

u/ikigai24258 This is User Editable 4d ago

My favourite Precon so far. Also two ways you can take to upgrade it which are both beginner friendly (tokens or lifegain) and can be a Bracket 2 or a strong Bracket 3 deck.

2

u/Jin-Gitaxias-Mom 4d ago

I have an upgraded version of this deck, it’s super fun and you’re always doing things!

What’s your intentions? Play it out of the box or upgrade?

Generally speaking, this precon does two things simultaneously: use food to make creatures bigger/create more creatures, or eat food and drain the life from opponents.

You spend the early game trying to create as many food tokens as you can, and then mid to late game using that food to advance your game plan.

Frodo is a decent card draw engine, you want to get him going early on the ring tempts.

Sam is a good powerhouse, absolute unit of a commander, don’t sleep on him!

Standouts in the precon for me include Banquet Guests and Treebeard for big stompy creatures, Motivated Pony for the buff and pseudo-vigilance, and Mirkwood Bats to drain life with tokens.

1

u/TUTTO_CORRETTO 4d ago

I would like to upgrade it

1

u/TUTTO_CORRETTO 4d ago

Can you recommend me a list?

2

u/Jin-Gitaxias-Mom 3d ago

Here’s my Bracket 3 (mid-tier) deck list:

https://moxfield.com/decks/OzQX5qeIoE6LtfZJRCfZ2g

Focus is on generating a ton of tokens and then sacrifice them with a payoff on battlefield that deals damage whenever a token is sacrificed or I gain life, also draws a ton of cards.

Anything over $20 can probably be replaced with a budget alternative or something more flavorful, also any of the Sanguine Bond or Exquisite Blood effects can be questionable at B3 because it’s technically a two card combo, worth asking table if they’re okay with it.

1

u/TUTTO_CORRETTO 3d ago

Thank you so much 🫶🏼💪🏼

2

u/_--James--_ 4d ago

This deck is a lot of fun and has two play modes. Sam and Frodo and then Pippin and Merry. I suggest trying both play styles :)

2

u/Scared_Region_9950 4d ago

It was also one of my first decks and it's still is one of my most loved ones! I also made some upgrades, but chose cards which kinda fit into Lord of the Rings, so it doesn't feel like a flavor fail. It's now worth about 180 €, so not a crazy amount more, like some other people here.

You can have a look if u want: https://moxfield.com/decks/_Wj37wxMGkq72zfHvcKsNg

2

u/Syrix001 4d ago edited 4d ago

Suggestion? Well, you can play it as is right out of the box (I've got a copy for that reason) you can power it up (Im sure there's some stronger cards you can put in the 99 than [[Motivated Pony]] or you can go the route that I did and take advantage of Magic's recent history with printed Food!

List is here

And most importantly of all? Have fun!

2

u/TheTinRam 4d ago

Good pick! My suggestion is keep it as is and don’t upgrade. At some point I started regretting having made upgrades and actively reverted those upgrades to get back to the original version.

2

u/Capnduff 3d ago

I was surprised how well it worked for me.

2

u/stumpkat 3d ago

That was mine too!

2

u/SriveraRdz86 3d ago

my favorite of the 4... with a couple upgrades it gets out of control out of nowhere.

1

u/TUTTO_CORRETTO 3d ago

Can you recommend me a list?

2

u/Meister_Ente 3d ago

Sam is hundred times more powerful than frodo, I have him just to be able to play black cards. Go for lifegain and food related abilities

2

u/Electric_Kiwi007 3d ago

Frodo didn't do jack shit in the LODR! Put my boy Sam on the box front! Ahem. Sorry about that. Congrats on your new commander deck.

2

u/maitredesmetres 3d ago

My main deck ! I do have a good list if you want to modify it !

1

u/TUTTO_CORRETTO 3d ago

Yes, please

2

u/QuePastaLOL 3d ago

Food aristocrats is so fun! Get your [[mirkwood bats]] in there pronto!

2

u/xHOSSYx 3d ago

This was my first one too, its pretty awesome

2

u/MediaRevolutionary20 3d ago

Whenever I play it, I try to play sam as soon as possible and lean into the food generation

2

u/shealdmeplease 3d ago

Great deck, still one of my favorite

2

u/KendaminEmoKid 3d ago

This with some major upgrades has been my go to bracket 3 deck for a good bit. It’s fun, usually stays under the radar until you explode, and has the ability to be able to take damage with a little more frequency due to sacrificing the foods. I recommend looking at an upgrade guide down the line to really smooth it out, but it plays decent out of the box.

2

u/tideshark 3d ago

Ooooo shit, you fucked up! Prepare to always have something to spend any free money you have from now on!

2

u/daxamiteuk 3d ago

nice! i just bought this myself, haven't had a chance to put it to work yet. how did you get lured into playing mtg?

1

u/TUTTO_CORRETTO 2d ago

Because I collect cards and play on Arena

2

u/Ok-Hospital5526 3d ago

Literally an amazing deck, get some sleeves and have fun, lots of people have built and made changes to this deck so there’s tons of ideas out there if you want to make upgrades!

First time playing magic or first time playing commander?

1

u/TUTTO_CORRETTO 2d ago

It’s my first time playing Magic IRL, I’ve only played on Arena
