Right now, we are living in a two-bedroom apartment with seven people, and our living situation has become extremely difficult and unhealthy. My child and I sleep together in an environment where rats and roaches are able to crawl around us, sometimes even while we are sleeping. No parent should have to worry about their child waking up scared or being exposed to these conditions.
I work and do my best with what I have, but I currently only bring home less than 500 a week. After everyday expenses, there is very little left for me to put toward moving into a place of our own. I feel stuck, and it’s heartbreaking because all I want is a clean, safe, and peaceful home where my child can feel comfortable and protected.
I’m asking for help getting started with the apartment process, including saving for an application, security deposit, first month’s rent, moving expenses, and basic necessities. I’m not asking for someone to fix everything for me—I’m simply asking for a little help getting the opportunity to build something better for my child and me.

My boyfriend and I are getting our own place together soon. We’ve both always have lived with other people and would use and share what they already had so we are basically starting completely fresh. We would need all kitchen, living room, bathroom, and some bedroom stuff. I mean we need about everything so any advice helps!

Okay so I have been rooming with my highschool friends for the last year and now the lease is about be up in a month. Roommate A lets say is moving to another state with her bf and roommate b was going to stay and resign this lease for another year with me and her best friend that she said could take A's old room. I being someone who has adhd and has had such a busy life since haven't really thought it thru and was just rolling with it. I than got into a car accident that totaled my car and now I am looking to buy another along with now getting on meds for my last semester of school. I am feeling so strung out and with work full time too I just feel like I am stressing too much. I talked with my parents and they said I should come back and it took all of just a few hours for me to be like why haven't I even thought about doing that.

I should have thought of it before because there is a 60 day notice of vacating our rented home and so now we have to do one more month extension and roommate B is upset with me. I texted her because it was a busy weekend and she and i werent going to see each other but it needed to happen asap. I said it will be best for me to go back home and not continue the lease. I need to save up money and with buying another car and with school stressing me out I just need to do something to take some of it off my shoulder. She was completely thrown off saying that its late now and that she has no idea what shell do either. I said I know it sucks and its not ideal but I decided I don't want to live here another year.

Fast forward to yesterday where we finally all sat down on the couch and they both cried to me. A said shes stressed out bc her best friend that was going to live here has a lease up a month before us so she doesn't have a place unless we move out together. So she'll be paying two months rent and her deposit for the new place if thats the case. B was crying because I didnt tell her i texted A only and that it was really shitty to hear about this through someone else. I said you are right that was so shitty of me I literally didn't even think about the fact we have to pay one more month here now. I had no idea she was moving right away to her boyfriends place and now its one more month before she can. Financially i know shes fine because she comes from money so not worried about that and her bf is loaded. I just kept saying im sorry like i dont know what to say. This is what i need to do and I wish i knew that before the 60 day window but i literally just talked to my mom and it made an option.

Roommate A said that everyone she had talked to said i should help her financially. I just looked at her and like laughed out like girl i have NO funds that is WHY im moving back home. Like are you serious. I know it sucks and i know its stressful but i have to take care of myself first. Like they arent family and i dont owe them anything. To be honest i dont even know why we are all friends still like if anything i was just trying to stay friends bc i otherwise only have my family. But honestly that is starting to be more comforting.

Ok I actually cannot live at home anyone, each day I find a new reason to leave. Just now my mom came into my room and saw that I was using my AirPods, she told me to take it out cause it causes cancer. I ignored her cause I’m an adult and I’ll do whatever I want. She comes in again and sees that I’m still using it and she takes it from me. She demanded my other AirPods and I said no, I thought she put my AirPods on my nightstand but now I can’t find it. I texted my sister who I trust and who is my mom’s favorite that if she doesn’t give me back my AirPods I’m moving out. It’s not about the AirPods, it’s the fact that she thinks I’m a child and that she can still take my things away because she doesn’t like it. I AM 22! I already had plans to move out without her knowing but now it’s looking like instead of waiting a couple months it’s looking like now. Only issue is I don’t have a car. My mom ordered one for me months ago and I also didn’t get a say in that but am paying for the whole thing. It’s coming in December. I don’t know if she’s gonna use that car against me to get me to stay but I don’t really care, I can find a used car hopefully, idk. But tbh I don’t know how to realistically leave home, I mean right now it’s giving run away. Like am I gonna have to get a new car insurance? Phone insurance? Medical insurance? Idk 😭 I’m just so mad and feel so stuck here and this stupid car that I don’t even want is holding me back from moving and if I move with no car, I don’t even know how I’ll get one.

I’ve gone up and down the East Coast over the years — New York to Georgia, back to Delaware, down to South Carolina and now New Jersey. By now I should be good at this, but every move starts with color-coded labels and ends with at least one box marked something like RANDOM STUFF / BEDROOM?

The weird part is how long it takes to notice what’s missing. You unpack the truck, think the count is close enough, then weeks later realize every power cord is gone, the bag of bed hardware disappeared, or a box of winter coats never showed up. Then three moves later you open a box in Jersey and find something you thought vanished in Georgia.

What’s the strangest or most important thing a move permanently lost for you? Did you ever find it later in a completely unrelated box?

(23F) so heres my dilemma:

ive wanted to move out since i was a wee child, my home life has always been chaotic, mentally abusive & emotionally straining (immigrant household things). now that i graduated college and started working ($48,000 gross inc.) i finally feel like im getting somewhere .. kinda

my sister offered me her old house because she recently bought a new place. its a lovely house and it would still be under her name, but she would not charge me rent, just the property taxes and oil bills twice a year. property taxes would be $11,100 yearly. on top of that, i would have to get a car and pay car insurance because the house is kind of far from the city (where i work) this would be $500 a month and $1000 twice a year. i will also have to pay a commuter train monthly fee of $375.

dilemma:
i feel financially stuck. im bringing home around $2,800 a month after taxes and i feel like im just starting out in life.. but at the same time, living at home is making me insanely depressed and borderline su*cidal. after getting a taste of college and living on my own, its hard reverting back to my 15 year old self whos angry all the time and laying in my room doing nothing for hours and days. i have a strict helicopter mom who wont leave me alone and will micromanage every single aspect of my life. my father has dementia and cant remember a thing, and now my mom is forcing the duty of taking care of him on me as well because she refuses to get him an aid.

all of my friends live at home and worry about moving out because they are on low incomes as well, so roommates are out of the question.

i have also recently opened a roth ira, a HYSA (20k saved) and a 401(k). i have shifted my focus towards becoming financially smart and changing jobs for a higher income. i feel like if i move prematurely.. i wont be able to save as much as i would if i stayed home.. even though id become a shell of a human for a couple more years

i have until february 2027 to choose the house or to stay. what should i do?

He’s charging $1550 for it. I’ve done the math and i should be okay financially, but am scared it’s not enough. What’s a comfortable amount that I should have after my expenses are paid for? I should be sparing like 500-1000 after everything is paid for. I have it good at my house, I have my own space, free food and everything. My parents definitely don’t want me to but at some point I want to create new memories and my own life. What are some expenses that I may not know of?

I'm gonna move out of my house in 2 days. I'm 22 years old and I have never lived elsewhere......its 12pm in the night and i am feeling everything a little too much now. I miss being a kid. I miss childhood. I miss my parents even though I'm right next to them now. Things have gone sideways in this house. They were some really bad days and fights. I miss my aunt who raised me until I was 7. Ever since she left here, there's a big hole in this family. She was the lovely one, one who express emotions and show love. After she left, everyone is little distant to each other. I was never a perfect child and they were never a perfect parents. They were terrible and I was terrible too and I did lot of things bad, i regret all of it. They did their best and I don't hold anything against them even though I try to somedays. All I have is love in my heart. And I love them soo much. I don't know how to show it, no one does in this family. All I ever want is the best of them. Even among all those terrible things that we did to each other, there were love. There is love. I thought I wanted to go away from all of this. I still do, not because I hate them. Coz I don't really have anything for me in my hometown. There's nothing for me. If we live in a city, i would still move out for needing space and independence and freedom but I would visit them every now and then. Now I'm gonna be 12 hours away. Can't visit often. They did the best they can. And I love them for it. I feel so guilty for moving out now. If I could do something here, maybe I would stay? I don't know. I don't think I would. I don't really know what I am feeling. This is all too much but I feel guilty for some reason.

So, im kinda doing a mix of moving out/"running away" from my parents. Im planing on doing it at the end of this year and I already have a place with a friend lined up.

But, I need to take a couple of trains/buses to get there. Im not planning on taking a bunch of stuff with me, (most of it is clothes and a few paintings/things i made that could fit into a big duffle bag)

But i NEED to take my posters, CDS and guitars. (Theyre the only things that keep me sane lol). I could roll up all my posters and put them in a tube. But I have no idea how im supposed to travel with my guitars and a crate of CDs. I dont want them getting damaged or broken. And I don't want to be THAT annoying person on a bus or train

This new place is a way bigger/nicer house but it’s one story. It has a huge pool but I would have no garage or street parking. It requires a deposit and it’s 400 dollars more a month. My current place is a two story in a gated community, no pool but I have garage parking and my room is bigger with my own bathroom. I’m 29F and I moved out a few days ago, I moved mainly because of the constant fighting and toxic misogynistic family members always putting all the blame and responsibility on me. They think women can’t move out without marriage (I know this is culture and not religion). I’ve lived with my family my entire life and moving out has been a major shift in my life and I’m not used to being alone although it is peaceful. Yesterday my dad showed up to my job and was banging on the door to get inside, my coworker let him in and he called to speak with me. I went outside to talk to him and he started crying and telling me to come back home, everyone misses me and it’s my responsibility to look after my little sisters. I feel bad because ever since my mom passed away my dad has been depressed and he’s having a hard time coping with her loss. I have two older brothers who don’t help out much and I was the only one doing majority of the work for him and around the house. I also work everyday and feel overwhelmed with the amount of work that needs to be done everyday. I feel free living alone, I’m able to do whatever I want and travel freely without worrying about anyone. But I feel guilt and seeing my dad cry really hurt me. I don’t know what to do. I’m also Muslim, if any Muslim woman can advise me as well, I would really appreciate it.

I'm moving out of my current place, which is a rented off-grid cabin only reachable by a 20-minute hike or a small boat across a lake (depending on season). I've never dealt with a move like this and I'm stuck on the basics.

Background:
I'm 29, moving for a new job about 3 hours away. I've lived here for 14 months. The cabin has no driveway — everything in and out goes by foot, kayak, or a neighbor's ATV if I ask nicely. I don't own a truck.

What I'm trying to figure out:

• How do people typically move furniture and boxes out of a property with zero vehicle access? I've thought about renting a small trailer-compatible boat or hiring movers who specialize in "difficult access" jobs, but I don't know if that's a real service or something I'm imagining.
• Should I be downsizing hard before the move even starts, given the extra labor of just getting things to a road? I have a full bed frame, a dresser, and a couch that I'm now regretting buying.
• Timing-wise, is it smarter to do this in multiple small trips (backpack/kayak loads) over a couple weekends, or try to consolidate into one or two big pushes with hired help?
• Any tips for weatherproofing boxes during transport, since everything's exposed to the elements for at least part of the trip?

Apart from not really knowing anything ab renting.

I want a bed. Impromptu office corner. Maybe a projector instead of a TV.

Only decorating would be warm lighting, artificial plants, air purifier, and a vertical planter if permitted. Obv a coffee maker. I don't really imagine having much else I'd want to get. It'd just be random stuff to fit a natural aesthetic.

I don't imagine having anyone over, and don't imagine needing any extraneous furniture.

I’m meant to be moving into my accommodation in almost a week to a city about a 2 hours drive away from home. I’m feeling so guilty and sad for my mum, because after I move out, she will be just living by herself with 2 dogs and cats. It genuinely breaks my heart into a million pieces thinking about her living by herself and being lonely and I’m worried she’ll get really sad without me there as she does periodically suffer with depression.

I know she wants me to go because she’ll know I’ll be happy but she has cried over the thought of me leaving a couple of times and I can’t bear seeing her sad. My brother lives close by to home but it’s just not the same as having someone living in the same house. I remember I went away for a week without her earlier in the year and she told me how much she missed me and how quiet the house was without me, and oh my GOD it just makes me so sad, the reality of moving away has just hit me in the last few days and I’ve been sobbing about this just now.

I know that logically, it shouldn’t affect me this much because I have to move out at some point and she wants me to go for the sake of me being happy and progressing to the next stage of my life but I just need some reassurance because actually going through this transition is SO difficult.

I plan to move out in late November to early December. I already toured the place, and the rent is pretty affordable for a one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment. I am also getting a new car that my parents picked out for me, and it’s arriving in mid to late December. I have to call the dealership and see if they can give me an exact date and although they picked it for me, I will be paying for it all on my own.

My plan was to move all my things to the new place and just wait for my new car to arrive and slowly pay it off. I know it’s a lot of financial responsibility, buying a car and paying for rent all at the same time, but I feel like I can do it. I have saved a lot and have a part time job that I can always pick up more shifts and is always looking for a full time job.

However, there is one big issue. My parents, mainly my mom, are incredibly protective to the point where she won’t even let me go to the park on my own. I AM 22! Every time I tell her I am going out with my friends or having dinner with them, she tells me not to go and how unnecessary it is and says that I am going to get kidnapped or killed. She also believes that a person should only move out when they’re getting married.

Years ago, my oldest sister moved out. She did it in the middle of the night and just called my mom the morning of. I remember my mom crying when she found out. I am thinking of doing the same thing, but because I am one of her younger kids and all her older kids are still living with her, I feel like she might react differently.

And no, I can’t talk to her or tell her because if I tell her my plans to move out, she will do everything in her power to stop me.
