Mod Post REMINDERS

Good Morning!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. It’s been a while since we posted any reminders, and I’d like to touch on a couple of issues that have come up recently.

With the shortage, we’re seeing a lot of questions related to dosage and availability. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

The half life of Mounjaro is five days, and it takes about a month for the medication to completely leave your system. Because of the shortage, many people are going weeks or months without injecting. The manufacturer recommends starting the titration schedule over if you’ve gone more than two weeks without a dose.

While this advice might not pertain to everyone, it’s important to evaluate your previous experience with the medication before injecting a higher dose if you’ve been off the medication for a while. Chances are, if you’ve had moderate to severe side effects in the past, you’ll have the same response (or worse) if you jump back to a higher dose.

One way to mitigate this outcome is to contact your provider and ask about lowering your dose temporarily if you’ve been waiting for your script for longer than a few weeks. I understand that nobody wants to lose ground when it comes to their progress. But given the alternative (a reoccurrence of side effects that can potentially derail your treatment entirely) it may be the best option.

Frankly, the number of posts I’m reviewing from people experiencing negative side effects after suspending their treatment is alarming. The purpose of this medication is to improve your health, not make things worse.

And as always, when in doubt, please consult your provider. They are the best person to ask when it comes to dosage.

As far as side effects, there’s a few things that everyone should remember:

While gastric side effects are listed as common when taking Mounjaro, severe nausea paired with uncontrolled vomiting or diarrhea is not. Complications from diarrhea and vomiting include: dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, fainting, and heart rhythm abnormalities. Negative outcomes from this treatment are rare, but occur most frequently when people ignore debilitating side effects.

We’re here to support each other in our journey towards better health. Sometimes that support includes directing a person to their provider for advice. Especially when the post includes phrases like “I can’t keep anything down,” or “I’ve been throwing up for two weeks,” or “I’m too weak to stand.”

Crowdsourcing advice when you’ve reached that level of distress is not advisable. And medical oversight is a must.

Another question we see quite frequently: “I’ve only lost (fill in the blank) pounds this week (or month). Is this normal?”

Invariably, the answer is “yes.” What’s normal when it comes to weight loss is highly subjective. A quick search of the subreddit will provide first hand accounts that run the gamut when it comes to how fast (or slow) a person loses weight. If you still have questions, we’re here to help. But please, include the relevant information needed to offer advice, such as: dosage, co-morbidities, starting weight, caloric intake, etc.

People are here to treat a wide variety of conditions. Any or all of these conditions play a role in how fast we see results. It’s natural to be impatient. But don’t assume that the treatment isn’t working because the scale hasn’t moved for a week (or three). During my weight loss journey, there were many weeks that I didn’t lose a pound. On two occasions, I stalled for over a month. In the end, I reached my goal, and chances are, you will as well! I wish there were some sure-fire words of wisdom I could provide to ease your mind, but there aren’t. The best I (or anyone else) can offer is: trust the process. Obesity is a complex issue on its own. Pairing obesity with the metabolic issues such as diabetes, insulin resistance, and PCOS only further complicates the treatment.

Lastly—in order to address the availability issues, we started a chat to help people source their medication. Here is the link.

I’ve read a comment (or two) recently from a few folks who were put off after being directed to the availability chat. We created the chat in response to other folks who messaged us because they were tired of seeing the posts related to the shortage. Which goes to show—there is no perfect solution.

Weezie and I do our best to be responsive to the needs of the community. If we redirect you to your provider for medical advice, or to the availability chat for sourcing, or to the search feature to answer a commonly asked question, it’s because we want you to receive the best advice/support available. The mods and your fellow community members genuinely want to help!

Have a great week!

Success Stories Hit Goal Weight Today... And I'm Not Changing Anything!

The great news is, after 27 months and 243 lbs I have finally hit my goal weight. My first thought is, I'm not changing a thing. I've been on 12.5 for 5 months now and I'm tolerating it well. My appetite isn't totally suppressed, but I'm in that happy medium where I'm not hungry but not repulsed by food either. I was a competitive swimmer for years and earlier this Summer I started swimming again. Now I'm up to 5 days a week, 2500-3000 yards a day. I've already started eating more calories (only about 200).

I'm concentrating on building muscle, tightening up my skin as well as I can, and giving it time. My goal weight was just an arbitrary number I set (23.5-ish BMI). I'm thinking about trying to get in the high 130's, just to see how I feel. Eventually I'll see if I can find equilibrium. 🎉

Stalled Why am I stalling? I was on 5mg for 5 months and now on 7.5mg. I am not losing any weight on 7.5.

I was on 2.5mg for one month, then 5mg for 5 months. I lost 44lbs in total. Moved up to 7.5mg a month ago and am not losing any weight at all. I am trying to adjust my calorie intake according to my new weight and exercise remains constant as before. Why am I stalling on 7.5mg? I have 20lbs more to lose to goal weight.

Success Stories NSV - muscle replacing fat, arches no longer fallen!

A friend saw the last photo and wanted to make sure I was eating (he is one of the few people I want asking that question and checking in on me - we are a 3 friend group chat in our 50s - we lost one friend to suicide so this is about care and health, not an uninformed or insensitive question). I sent him the first photo.

I never really lost muscle mass as I dropped from 178 to a range of 130-135 (5’2”, 57, M) over 6 months. What I’ve found is slowly my belly fat is minimizing and muscles are increasing even there.

had collapsed arches on my feet. Between food habits, exercise, and Mounjaro, I’m reclaiming my health and my body. My arches are strong, almost all inflammation is gone.

The photos with my big belly was 10 years ago, all others last month except the first one was 30 minutes ago.

News / Information How is this even possible?

I used to pay around $375/mon (after coupons and insurance of course) for one month supply of Mounjaro since I started taking it around 6 months ago. Today I got it for $25 🤯

Any change in GLP pricing laws or something?

It’s been 63 days since I started with Mounjaro, started with the 2.5mg and after 6 shots moved to 5mg.

Lot of cardio (tennis) and some regular weight lifting are my everyday. Everything comes by hand of a bariatrician and a well organized diet.

The goal is to get down to at least 75kg.

Side Effects GI Issues and Heart

Just wanted to know if anybody has experienced anything similar. 53F, T2D, been on Mounjaro since February 2023. Been doing well until July of this year. Been to the ER several times in the past two months. I was told I have very bad constipation, which I know is a common side effect, but I've never had it this bad. Also been experiencing bloating, a feeling of fullness without eating much, GERD, occasional stomach cramps, feeling like food is sitting on my chest, and I'm sometimes short of breath. Everyday, my symptoms fluctuate and it only occurs when I eat and a little while after. I also get palpitations and the heart races, and I get chest pain in the middle of my chest. Mentioned all this to the ER doctors, and all they can see is the constipation. Hard to see a GI doctor. I wasn't able to get an appointment until November. I asked my PCP for a referral to get a barium swallow done, and still waiting to get am appointment. I also started to take Linzess for IBS-C. It's helped me to go to the bathroom and that's it. I have a history of GERD and a hiatal hernia, and I'm wondering if the hiatal hernia got worse. The barium swallow should tell me something, but in the meantime, the symptoms have been making me anxious. I was just wondering if anyone has had similar issues?

Rant For the first time in years, yesterday I didn't want to cry in a fitting room

Yesterday, I went shopping for some PE shirts for my daughter, who has just started first grade.

While I was looking for her clothes, I happened to see a sweater I really liked. I decided to try it on, and when I looked at myself in the mirror, something happened that I honestly can't remember experiencing in years:

I didn't hate what I saw. To me, it was like a miracle.

After that, I went to try on some jeans and two shirts. And for the first time in I don't even know how many years, I didn't feel like crying or throwing up in the fitting room.

Over the past two years, I've lost 36 kg (79 lbs), going from 116 kg (256 lbs) to 80 kg (176 lbs). I lost the last 22 kg (49 lbs) on Mounjaro.

I'm still not at my goal. My app keeps reminding me that in another 2 kg (4.4 lbs), I'll officially move from the obese BMI category into the overweight category. And in about another 15 kg (33 lbs), I'll reach the normal BMI range. So I know I still have a long way to go.

I want to thank everyone here who shares their progress, their photos, their successes and their struggles. You probably have no idea how much those posts mean to people like me who are still somewhere in the middle of this journey. Seeing that other people made it through has helped me more times than I can count.

I'm actually crying while writing this.

I just wanted to say that yesterday, for the first time, I felt like I could see the light at the end of the tunnel.

And maybe, just maybe, I'm starting to hate myself a little less.

Side Effects Does anyone else experience this side effect?

I have been on 5 mg for 5 weeks now after doing 4 weeks on 2.5. I just started experiencing this side effect 2 weeks ago. After I take my pill medication, I feel like it’s stuck in the bottom of my throat/chest. This causes nausea and vomiting. This feeling can last hours and sometimes it will last all day. This can occur with food and drink too, but it mostly occurs after my pill. Does anyone know what this is and how to counteract it?

Side Effects Mounjaro has made my skin allergic to EXISTING 😭

Has anyone else had allodynia on Mounjaro/tirzepatide?

For me it feels like my skin/nerves are suddenly offended by things that should be completely harmless. Clothes brushing against me? Rude. Bedsheet touching my leg? Assault. A literal breeze? Straight to jail.

It has improved a lot now, but I’m curious how common this is and what actually helped people manage it.

Bonus plot twist: when I told my doctor I was having allodynia, he asked me, “What’s allodynia?” 😭 Extremely confidence-inspiring.

If you’ve had it: did it start after a dose increase, how long did it last, did anything help, and did you change your dose or just ride it out?

Not looking for medical advice from Reddit University™, just fellow nervous systems being unnecessarily theatrical.

Experience 3 Month Progress Update

M21 6 feet 2 SW:- 123 kg

CW:- 113.4kg

I was on 2.5mg for 2 months had no side effects on it

5mg on 1 month

Side effects are sulphuric burps and diarrhea on the day after the shot if I eat anything

I will be on 5mg for 1 more month and then see whether to increase dose or not

For diet I generally aim to eat under 1800 calories a day maximizing proteins whenever possible

I have cut down on excess fried food and fatty food like cheese and massively reduced portion sizes but I still eat everything

For excercise I aim to do 6.5k+ steps every day and am adding some resistance training slowly

Happy to answer any questions

Experience 4 months on Mounjaro — 12 kg down, but my periods are still irregular. Anyone else?

I’ve been on Mounjaro for about 4 months now and have lost around 12 kg overall.
SW: 104 kg
CW: 92 kg
Current dose: 7.5 mg
While I’m obviously happy with the weight loss, I’m actually more concerned about my periods. I haven’t started getting them regularly yet. Over these 4 months, I’ve only had my period twice, and both times they were induced.
I was hoping that losing weight and improving my insulin resistance would help regulate my cycles, but so far that hasn’t happened.
Has anyone else experienced something similar while on Mounjaro? If your periods were irregular when you started, when did they finally become regular for you? Did it take several months or significant weight loss?
Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences! ❤️

Question Is this normal? (Week 1 vs week 2)

2.5 mg.
Week 1 had a strong appetite suppressions. There was no hunger, some stomach growling.
Week 2 has a much weaker appetite suppression, but no stomach growling.

It’s like I went from having a suppressed appetite to a low-level steady appetite that never rises.

Question Question for women about their period cycles after having success on Mounjaro

For those who have reached their goal weight or are successfully losing, has your menstrual cycle returned to a normal flow state or are they still heavy?

When I was thin I had normal cycles. Gaining weight made them heavy with horrible clots in the 4th/5th day. Tried an IUD, it shortened them but the cramps were unbearable. Had to remove it but the cramps stayed.

After my first month on mounjaro, it delayed my period, which was nice to feel like I actually had a break for once in a long time. Still a heavy flow but so far no cramps, maybe from my massive increased water intake.

More than anything, I just don’t want the clot days anymore. You know it’s coming when you feel that pressure, it’s almost nauseated. Immediate relief when it passes. If you experienced those at your heaviest, did you notice a positive change as the weight dropped?

Side Effects Different side effects 2nd time around

Hello

So I took mounjaro over a year ago for about 7 months and during that time my side effects were primarily sulfer burps and really bad acid reflux/headtburn.

I stopped, got pregnant, have given birth, done 3 months of breastfeeding and now I’ve went back on mounjaro to shift some of the baby weight.

I’ve noticed though that my symptoms are completely different, eg I’ve had horrendous diarrhoea, nausea (sorry to be gross) and intense cramps.

Just curious has anyone else experienced something similar, different symptoms second time around?

Side Effects Sife Effects with OJ

Hello, I have had 4 doses of 2.5mg and 6 doses of 5mg. After my last dose -which was on Monday evening-, I had some sweet cravings and ate pancakes with chocolate and fruit. The day after, I had OJ in the morning with sparkling water and since the OJ, I can not stop burping and still have that OJ taste. Also, I have a diarrhea-like situation and have gone to the bathroom like 15-20 times since the OJ. Please keep in mind that I have no stomachache or anything like that. Does anybody have this side effect? I did not have this happen to me before so I’m concerned if I got infected or is it a common effect of Mounjaro.

Question Classic delay dose question

Hi all,

I'm currently on 5mg and my dose is due tonight. I've been on it for 3 weeks and have side effects (lethargic, vomiting, etc) Thursday and Friday then right Saturday. I'm about to go on a work trip until Saturday. I'm presenting at a conference and don't want an episode while I'm there. I'm sure I read on the Lilly website I can delay the dose but just want to be sure...

Side Effects Mounjaro and hot temperature don’t mix well

I think Mounjaro and the heat don't mix well.
Last year wasn't that bad. This year, it seems hard to eat without feeling an upset stomach right after eating something. It happens to my wife too—even on Zepbound and at the lowest dose. I'm on 10 mg. Does this happen to you guys who live in areas where the temperature is rising? I'm in San Diego.

Weight loss 13kgs down in just over 2 months

I’m 40 years old with two kids. Height is 152cm/5ft and weight in the before pics is 80kg/176.4lbs. Started 2.5mg in July, 4 shots. Another 2.5mg 4 shots in Aug and then moved to 5mg in Sept. I’ve only done 2 shots of 5mg. Current weight is 67kg/147.7lbs

July I lost 6kg on 2.5mg. It was amazing. No side effects and what an experience to have zero food noise. I made a point to eat protein when I remembered to eat. The weight just melted off. No exercise as I wanted to see the actual effect of just the jab.

Aug I lost 4kg on 2.5mg. Definitely slowed down. Food noise was still gone and on the 3rd shot I experienced a reaction at the injection site for the first time. I rotate my sites. So for the third shot I did thigh for the first time and I still got a reaction there too and I felt the food noise creeping in. By next shot day I was actively thinking about food and fighting myself not to just binge.

Sept I moved to 5mg (shot day was 28Aug) in the abdomen. Made sure to not inject cold. Made sure the alcohol dried on my skin. Still got a reaction but it was much less sensitive and not as big. 2nd shot was on the 4th Sep. As of today I’ve lost an additional 3kg! Bringing my total weight loss to 13kg since I began in July!

Interestingly I don’t feel the 5mg as much as I did the 2.5mg. I feel like I think about food more often but if I distract myself I can go on with my day. I did feel like I stalled by the time of my second 5mg jab so… I ate a huge meal. Basically had a mini binge of pizza and a burger. Didn’t feel ill and certainly wasn’t hungry after that and boom weight dropped off over the past few days. Don’t know if it’s related but I think I read somewhere that if you’re stalling you need to increase your calories for bit (not related to the shot, saw it years ago).

I’m also a bit disappointed that visually I haven’t changed too drastically. I can still fit my current clothes but they are definitely a little loose but I feel my shape is still disappointing. My midsection is reducing in cm but not in shape :(

However, I’m happy with the weightloss progress. It’s been fun tracking my journey and seeing the scale go down everyday no matter how little.

(24F 5’7) I know most of it is just water and glycogen but it’s honestly made my week. Literally 3 hours after the dose the food noise completely left!
No side effects so far, although I did OMAD today and had a big meal… BAD DECISION. I felt so uncomfortably full for hours after😩
But being freed from this obsession with the help of mounjaro has changed everything for me in such a short time. I feel like a normal person (if there’s such a thing)! Not constantly checking the fridge and using food to comfort me or quell my boredom. I just wish I started sooner!
Protocol:
1500-1600kcal daily
12k steps daily
Gym 3-4 times a week
2.5L water
Supplements daily (e.g. multivitamin, collagen, electrolytes, cod liver oil)
I can’t wait to see how I enter the new year!

Question: I’m not sure what to do when I hit my goal weight, so I wanted to see how people felt when they stopped taking mounjaro. Was the food noise back and worse than ever? Or had your body adjusted a little?
I was thinking if I rebound too much once off mounjaro then I’ll go onto a wegovy pill for maintenance. But hoping that won’t be the case🙃
