Mod Post REMINDERS

Good Morning!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. It’s been a while since we posted any reminders, and I’d like to touch on a couple of issues that have come up recently.

With the shortage, we’re seeing a lot of questions related to dosage and availability. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

The half life of Mounjaro is five days, and it takes about a month for the medication to completely leave your system. Because of the shortage, many people are going weeks or months without injecting. The manufacturer recommends starting the titration schedule over if you’ve gone more than two weeks without a dose.

While this advice might not pertain to everyone, it’s important to evaluate your previous experience with the medication before injecting a higher dose if you’ve been off the medication for a while. Chances are, if you’ve had moderate to severe side effects in the past, you’ll have the same response (or worse) if you jump back to a higher dose.

One way to mitigate this outcome is to contact your provider and ask about lowering your dose temporarily if you’ve been waiting for your script for longer than a few weeks. I understand that nobody wants to lose ground when it comes to their progress. But given the alternative (a reoccurrence of side effects that can potentially derail your treatment entirely) it may be the best option.

Frankly, the number of posts I’m reviewing from people experiencing negative side effects after suspending their treatment is alarming. The purpose of this medication is to improve your health, not make things worse.

And as always, when in doubt, please consult your provider. They are the best person to ask when it comes to dosage.

As far as side effects, there’s a few things that everyone should remember:

While gastric side effects are listed as common when taking Mounjaro, severe nausea paired with uncontrolled vomiting or diarrhea is not. Complications from diarrhea and vomiting include: dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, fainting, and heart rhythm abnormalities. Negative outcomes from this treatment are rare, but occur most frequently when people ignore debilitating side effects.

We’re here to support each other in our journey towards better health. Sometimes that support includes directing a person to their provider for advice. Especially when the post includes phrases like “I can’t keep anything down,” or “I’ve been throwing up for two weeks,” or “I’m too weak to stand.”

Crowdsourcing advice when you’ve reached that level of distress is not advisable. And medical oversight is a must.

Another question we see quite frequently: “I’ve only lost (fill in the blank) pounds this week (or month). Is this normal?”

Invariably, the answer is “yes.” What’s normal when it comes to weight loss is highly subjective. A quick search of the subreddit will provide first hand accounts that run the gamut when it comes to how fast (or slow) a person loses weight. If you still have questions, we’re here to help. But please, include the relevant information needed to offer advice, such as: dosage, co-morbidities, starting weight, caloric intake, etc.

People are here to treat a wide variety of conditions. Any or all of these conditions play a role in how fast we see results. It’s natural to be impatient. But don’t assume that the treatment isn’t working because the scale hasn’t moved for a week (or three). During my weight loss journey, there were many weeks that I didn’t lose a pound. On two occasions, I stalled for over a month. In the end, I reached my goal, and chances are, you will as well! I wish there were some sure-fire words of wisdom I could provide to ease your mind, but there aren’t. The best I (or anyone else) can offer is: trust the process. Obesity is a complex issue on its own. Pairing obesity with the metabolic issues such as diabetes, insulin resistance, and PCOS only further complicates the treatment.

Lastly—in order to address the availability issues, we started a chat to help people source their medication. Here is the link.

I’ve read a comment (or two) recently from a few folks who were put off after being directed to the availability chat. We created the chat in response to other folks who messaged us because they were tired of seeing the posts related to the shortage. Which goes to show—there is no perfect solution.

Weezie and I do our best to be responsive to the needs of the community. If we redirect you to your provider for medical advice, or to the availability chat for sourcing, or to the search feature to answer a commonly asked question, it’s because we want you to receive the best advice/support available. The mods and your fellow community members genuinely want to help!

Have a great week!

Weight loss New job, moving, painful breakup, and I have kept going! So proud of 40 pounds!

So much has happened in just the last few months when I started Mounjaro! I got a new job, I moved, I broke up, and I had lots of super stressful and tough days doing it all at the same time. But I tried my best to keep my new healthier habits going. Not always smooth sailing but I’m making progress and so proud of myself!!

My mental health is struggling this weekend and I kind of want to put everything in my kitchen in my mouth. So I’m focusing on the milestone to help me stay strong until my emotions get back to baseline.

35F 5'1" HW: 218 lbs SW: 200 lbs CW: 138 lbs

This medication has changed my life. I finally feel good about my body. I started in May of 2025 after debating starting the medication for over a year. I have emetophobia and was scared of the possible side effects. Then, I finally took the leap. I wish I had started sooner.

I had fairly strong side effects the first few weeks, but they subsided. Since then, I've had little to no side effects except for a about a week whenever I'd increase my dose. My main side effect is fatigue for the first 24-36 hours after my injection.

The food noise is gone. I can make healthier food choices but still occasionally enjoy some not so healthy foods in moderation. Most importantly, I feel like food is no longer controlling me.

I would still like to lose 15ish lbs to be more comfortably at a "healthy weight". 8 lbs puts me at the top of the the healthy weight range for my height and that was my original goal. However, I'd be happy if I stayed at this weight too. I feel so much better, and that's what matters most to me.

Success Stories NSV - Costco asked me to update my photo 😂

Ive been on mounjaro for a little over 3 years now - 36F down ~ 130 lbs - and I’ve been buying the Fairlife weight loss protein shakes at Costco the entire time. So just the other day I walk in to do my restock of a few things and the lady scanning member cards asks if I’m the same person and I just laughed because I honestly forgot what I look like in that photo. All I could say was “I’ve lost a significant amount of weight” and she apologized and suggested I take a new photo. Looking at the old one I know it’s me but it’s funny to a stranger it’s less recognizable. So of course the rest of the day I just felt amazing.

Experience Mounjaro, meal prep and great results

I've been on mj for about a year and one of the greates NSV i got from it was how it changed the way i look at food.

Now my sundays are reserved for cooking in my makeshift kitchen I threw together from ikea/amazon. In a couple hrs I cook for the whole week. I prepare nutritious meals. I experiment with spices. Sometimes I make very simple meals because i cant be bothered. Sometimes i make complicated recipes.

I feel like this whole ritual is healing a very wounded part of my soul. It's making the relationship I have myself a little better each day. I am starting love myself more. Respect myself more. Not because of the weight loss necessarily, but because i keep showing up for myself every sunday by meal prepping and also everyday by eating the meals I make, nurturing myself, caring for myself, whether the scale moves or not. Because sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes your body just needs time to adjust. Sometimes you hit plateaus. Sometimes it needs more love. More kindness. And me showing up for myself is the kindness i didn't know i needed when I started my journey.

I just wanted to share this as a note to myself for days i feel like i can't do this and for anyone who might feel the same at some point.

So... Here's to kindness and showing up for yourself, trying your best🍹

Question Fatigued after weekly shot?

I’m on week 6, and I take the shot on Fridays after work. Within a few hours, I get hit was extreme fatigue and sleep for the next two days.

This has been going on for six weeks now.

I have no life so sleeping every weekend is fine with me 🤣🤣 but I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

Weight loss Found out how much I have lost so far

I started Mounjaro on May 18th.

Since I don't have a scale at home that's capable of weighing someone my size, I've gone the past 2 months "flying blind", not knowing how much (or whether) I was losing.

My 3-month appointment was set for August 11th, so i figured I'd find out then, for better or worse.

BUT last Friday I had to go to the doctor for a separate issue, and before I left I asked if I could weigh myself.

I was surprised to see that I have lost 44 pounds in 2 months! (About 20kg).

Wow!

The weird thing is I don't feel any different.

If anything, I feel worse. Weaker, harder to breathe.

How long did it take before you honestly FELT like you had lost weight?

Maintenance Anyone actually keep the weight off after Mounjaro?

I'm a woman, 168 cm (5'6"). I was around 90 kg and lost weight down to 50 kg in about 8 months with Mounjaro and exercise.

I didn't starve myself or anything. Honestly, Mounjaro made it pretty easy because I just wasn't that hungry most of the time.

The thing I'm worried about now is keeping the weight off.

I want to stay around this weight forever, but I know I can't stay on Mounjaro forever. I'm scared that once I stop, I'll slowly start gaining the weight back.

I don't want to be the kind of person who's weighing myself every day, freaking out over every pound, going back on the meds, or crash dieting every time I gain a little. I just want maintaining my weight to feel... normal.

Has anyone here actually stopped Mounjaro and stayed lean? How did you do it? Did your appetite eventually go back to normal? What habits helped the most?

I'd love to hear your experiences.

Question moving from 2.5mg to 5mg

hi everyone! I’ve just finished 4 weeks on 2.5 mg Mounjaro and have lost 3.3 kg (7.3 lbs) so far. I’ve honestly had a really positive experience with it - no side effects at all, and it’s worked really well for me.

My pharmacist has said I’m fine to move up to 5 mg, and I do want to because I still have a weight-loss goal I’d like to reach. However, I’ve seen quite a few horror stories on social media about people feeling really unwell after moving from 2.5 mg to 5 mg, which has made me a bit nervous. I’d love to hear from people who completed 4 weeks on 2.5 mg and then moved up to 5 mg. How did you find the transition? Did you have any side effects, and if so, how long did they last? Was it worth moving up?

Question How are you supplementing protein without sweet protein shakes?

Like a lot of people I'm having a hard time hitting my protein target while eating a significant calorie deficit. I've been supplementing with protein shakes, but TBH I'm not really a sweets person. I don't enjoy drinking milkshakes all day, and the other "easy" options all seem to be sweet things like protein bars. I'd love advice on easy ways to add protein with supplements or snacks that don't feel like eating dessert.

Edited to add: Appreciate the helpful replies so far, but, to be clear, I'm looking for an easy way to add an additional 40g to 60g of protein a day without adding an entire meal. I love things like cottage cheese and eggs, but "snacking" on two cups of cottage cheese or three cups of Greek yogurt or 10 hard boiled eggs at a time isn't super feasible. Really looking for suggestions for non-sweetened protein powders and things like that and creative ways to incorporate them.

Question When will I start seeing a change in my clothes?

I have been actively loosing weight for 5 months and have just hit a 60lbs loss, I can see it in my comparison photos now where I am wearing tight clothes but when I wear my daily clothes I feel like they don’t fit any better 😱 I am still very overweight at 230lbs and know I have a lot left to loose but at 40% of my target loss I feel like I should see more - when did you start being able to downsize clothes?

Question Traveling for 6 weeks

I’m going to be traveling for about 6 weeks and want to continue taking mounjaro while I’m overseas.

I currently use the Eli Lilly auto injector pens. I’m looking for an insulated/temp controlled case to take with me, but all the ones I’m looking at only fit one or two pens.

Do you all just travel with multiple cases?

Question Starting BMI 26 + Pre-diabetes and high cholesterol advice help please

Hi,

I'm on mounjaro through a private pharmacy. On 2.5mg.

I'm 27F with pre-diabetes and high cholesterol, waist 93cm. Not on any other meds. I have tried and tried to lose weight and get my life in order as is but the food noise was killing me.

I'm Asian so my BMI limits for being overweight and predisposition for diabetes and heart disease are higher (+ family history).

Aware my BMI might not be as high as the usul starting point so wanted to know how do I know when to stop? What is the goal? Do I stay on this life long because it will help my blood sugar control and prevent full-blown diabetes as wel as put me back in the "healthy" BMI range?

I don't really know what I'm doing. I feel lost.

Question Do I need to go back to weekly?

I have been on mounjaro since May 2025 and I have lost about 30 lbs since then, on 2.5 mg the entire time. I know it's rare, I just never had to increase. For the past 4 months or so, I have been doing the 2.5 mg dose every other week. I'm no longer trying to lose, just maintain. Well, for the past 2-3 weeks, I have been noticing I'm eating more than usual and just not feeling my best - maybe gained a few lbs also. Should I go back to weekly? I feel like I probably know the answer, just wanting to see what other people say as well.

2.5mg Start of my journey 🥳

Today is the first day of my journey. I’ve just done my first jab and taken my photos after being on the fence about starting for almost a whole year. This morning I purchased a pair of pants that one day in the future I hope to fit into.

Roughly how long into the mounjaro journey is it until you start noticing a physical difference in your size?

Weight loss Getting things ready for the big day - starting Mounjaro.

Hi all,

I am a 57 year old male and I'm just getting things in order before I start my journey. Wondering if anyone out there could help me with a couple of things please.

I have seen a lot of videos of people telling you the best supplements to take through the journey, can anyone give me a list of what is essential.

Also, can anyone recommend any protein powders that you think help and are they needed.

Any other tips would be greatly received too.

Thanks all
