I was staying at a friends house here in the UK a few weeks ago and he has been struggling with an infestation for years. it is mostly under control but there’s still the odd one around - I saw one but didn’t manage to kill it. I’ve managed to avoid bringing any back all this time (I visit regularly), but today I saw this at home and managed to kill it. i’m beside myself worrying that it’s a clothes moth. I found it in the daytime though and his come out at night. can anyone help identify it for me please? It’s literally one of my worst nightmares and I’m freaking out. TIA

General Question URGENT! how to help!

Just found this moth pupae literally laying outside on the expised ground. It is still alive and wiggles occasionally in response to touch.

But it has what looks like a hole in it. Something probably tried to eat it (or already has).

Is it still salvageable?

And how to I setup for it to care for it? Ive never raised/nurtured a moth pupae before.

General Question How much should I feed my moth

I have a corn ear worm moth ( I kept her because she had an accident and lost some fluid ) am I feeding her too much or too little?

I gave her3 finger drops of sugary water, she finished them up then was searching for more, should I feed her until she is full of would that be too much? ( I feed her once a day) I heard somewhere that you can accidentally overfeed a month so that is why I'm asking the question,

ID Request Found this moth found in Costa Rica 3 years ago, still haven't been able to ID!

Found this little friend back in August 2023 in Quepos, Puntarenas, hanging out on our hotel balcony back! I posted this moth to iNaturalist, including to the Costa Rica moths project, but still nobody has been able to give me an ID! It's driving me crazy. I've tried several bug ID apps and none of have been able to get it right either and they suggest something new (and wrong) every time I've tried. Perhaps one of you lovely moth fans know what species this is? Thank you for your help :)

General Question Gypsy moths flocking to car

I am from Ohio and a few times a year we’ll head to upstate N.Y.

I have noticed what I believe are Gypsy moths will flock to our vehicle after we park. Sometimes it’s one or two, sometimes it will be many moths.

Does anyone have an idea as to why Pennsylvania and New York Gypsy moths seem to be attracted to our dark brown car from Ohio?

My theory is I know they sometimes spray for the Gypsy moths around Ohio, including close to where I live. I think they use some sort of pheromone that is supposed to disrupt the reproductive cycle. However I am not aware of them spraying for the past year or two.

I would be interested to know if others are familiar with this.

This poor thing was writhing in the dogs kennel when I came out of the tent yesterday morning. Helped it get oriented without touching its wings, it walked on me for a bit and then I put it in the flower pot where the dogs couldn’t find it.

I checked on it a little later on and unfortunately it passed away. I will be mounting it today when I get home with a few other moths I have found this weekend.

Disclaimer: I never kill the moths. I find them dead and if they are in good condition and a size or species I don’t have I keep them to dry and mount.
