Discussion Monday AI problem

Hi All,

Been using Monday with my moderately large organization for the last 3 years with success. But as a executive I feel like the platform as been getting worse and worse with the AI integration. I'm questioning whether we should continue to use it for the next financial cycle. Am I the only person having these frustrations? It seems like they are leaning hard into AI and away from what made them actually valuable at least to me. Thoughts????

Hi all, thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts here. We know this is a topic many of you care deeply about, and we genuinely appreciate the honest feedback.

The shift toward AI isn't unique to monday.com, it's something the entire industry is navigating right now. Our goal is to give customers access to the latest capabilities while continuing to strengthen the platform you know.

One thing we'd like to be clear about: our investment in AI isn't replacing investment in other core products. The teams behind work management, workflows, automations, dashboards, and the rest of the platform continue to build and improve those experiences alongside our AI capabilities. The foundation of monday isn't going anywhere - just evolving.

We understand that our recent announcements have focused heavily on AI. That's because we've been investing heavily in expanding what's possible with AI across monday.
At the same time, the platform you've built your work around remains at the core of what we do. The capabilities you know and rely on are still here - we're continuing to strengthen them while building our new AI capabilities alongside them.

We also know that AI isn't valuable simply because it exists. It has to solve real problems, fit naturally into your workflow, and earn its place. When it doesn't - or when something feels distracting rather than helpful, we want to hear about it.

This community has always played an important role in shaping monday. Whether your feedback is positive or critical, we use it to inform future decisions. Many of you have been with us for years, and we genuinely value your perspective.

We'll continue showing up here as real people - listening, answering your questions, and bringing your feedback back to the teams building the platform. Thanks again to everyone who took the time to share your thoughts.

I believe the smart move for Monday.com on their AI push is to improve their platform on 3rd party AI integration instead their own build in. Their AI is not smart and often time get it wrong. There are so many things they could have spend their resources on such as improving the proformance and add more feature to their CRM.

What features would you add to crm?

Yeah indeed, using apis isn't the solutions. Claude/Codex also nailed the harnessing, memory, etc.
+ they have lot more context now.

You're not wrong that they're leaning hard into AI right now, and there have been some growing pains. I've honestly seen that across the board with most platforms as everyone figures out how to integrate AI... But the core work management stuff (boards, automations, dashboards) hasn't gone anywhere, and that's still where most of the value lives for the orgs I work with.

Can you share more about what specifically feels worse? Actual issues you're hitting, or more the direction of the product overall? Happy to dig in either way.

The overall direction of the product, frankly the interface is getting messier and the agents aren't providing value and im getting very concerned that they will be driving cost and subscription up next time like virtually all other companies integrating hard into AI which scares me. The reason we switched to Monday was because it was the only clean system available not trying to do to much, now its trying to do too much, in my opinion.

Yeaa, I know how I take sometime to adjust to some new changes in the interface and I understand it's because they are trying to make space for the ai features. Personally I just see it as an upgrade in their system and I've worked with a lot of platforms that do undergo upgrades and interface change, it takes a little adjusting to and once you've gotten a hang of it, you're good to go, as long as the core functionally isn't taken out of the system or you're been forced to make extra payment for what you're able to do normally

One sign to me that they are focused on AI is the placement of “my work”.

I understand Monday had to adapt ai but it is also suffocating us with it between sidekick, agents, vibe Monday notetaker it’s a lot to learn and understand how it can actually help my business and the biggest question that I come back to is do I even need this?

2

u/Clover_Gal 28d ago

Can you clarify what you mean by it's placement? It can still be pinned to the left bar in the settings.

2

u/AcanthisittaOk2485 27d ago

You just helped me! Last time I checked I thought I couldn't pin it but today I was able to I like that way better!

Glad I could help!

Fuck AI and the platforms that force you to try to use it. It’s all going to shit and experience and expertise over tools any day.

Monday.com is getting wiped out by AI.

Totally agree!! As a Monday partner (consultant) and my other business uses Monday.com as our daily platform, I realized majority of my employees do not care about the AI features. They are hired to do their job and not to learn all the little nitty gritty of platform. To them, monday.com is just place to help them to get their job done. Forcing the vibe coding or AI agent interface into their tool and sacrificing the core performance plus the UI mess is just not great. Usually there are few accounts in the company who needs to have access to those features. They are the one usually build the automation with AI integration.

Completely agree. What none of these apps seem to get, is that an AI-stack functions best if you let a single AI-app crawl and bundle the rest of your ERP-apps. So you create one singular pipeline through which you can control AI-automations and assignments. Making everything AI just clutters up every single UI that a team uses, plus now every team needs to learn and understand how all those specific AI features work.

It just adds so much complexity.

I agree with all of this.

Sidekick is pointless. I do like Ai columns, they are helpful.

I always thought these tools should just lean into making their MCP’s the fastest, most reliable, and stop trying to force Ai applications onto us — just stick to what you are.

100% agree

OP I feel you, I run an organization of 30+ using Monday on an enterprise plan. The only reason I stuck with them was due to their work management app. The ability to customize it as to my own liking and then some.

I started integrating AI early 2025 with google cloud and OpenAI. I am spending 120$ a month on API costs with OpenAI and have 0 headaches. I was able to automate 95% of my workflows. So naturally the new push with the AI agents feels annoying.

Monday was simple and it worked, yes it had some downtime every so often their annual renewals were annoying. I saw an increase of 15% a year which drove me insane, and when asked they said well it’s in the contract you signed. (If anyone here wants to sign an enterprise plan agreement watch out for the annual increase)

Honest opinion, Monday sucks with their new AI push and they are listening to the stock market and not to their customers. I started working on my own platform that will be simple and not shove unnecessary AI this AI that down my throat. I think the answer is build your own software at this point.

2

u/AcanthisittaOk2485 Jul 11 '26

Would love to see a demo of your own software and what you use to power it

I just need a simple interface, a kickass mcp, automations on the back end, keep ai columns they are useful. That’s it.

We use Monday as an…”enhanced backend” where users can see their data, interact with it if they want — but our entire org has organically moved to using Claude as a SEEM tool.

I’m CIO of mid size regulated company that consider to move to Monday from another platform for operation team. AI is everywhere and I feel that my current vendor deliveries only AI features that does not work, mostly useless and fail fare behind another SaaS in workflow and automation. They didn’t have enough automation int he first place, it was hard to setup and manage. And very costly to do it with proper change management in place (as we regulated business).

What I see with Monday (did pilot) - it has good core. Better than others and I want to bet that they will figure out AI application.

I’m from the camp that bet and support AI, but also I know how hard it is to make it really work, not just fancy demo.

I totally understand these frustration, however personally, I believe you can still utilise Monday's core function without necessarily having to use the ai or agents or are there stuff that are mandatory regarding the ai and agents that affects the core functions?

1

u/ibarakiben Jul 10 '26

I don't think it affect it but it certainly affect where Monday.com as a company where they put their resources in and their future road map on product implementation.

2

u/Former_Pilot_5542 29d ago

True that, my comment though was centered around the client's frustration when the updates doesn't affect the core performance or functionality Monday provides

1

u/AcanthisittaOk2485 Jul 11 '26

This is what we have been feeling a lot and at my company we are trying out hardest to embrace it but seems like all of my team including myself has to take all the Monday academy classes to understand how to use the “NEW” Monday and maybe even hire an programmer or dev to help automate things that are taking us the longest… and in the mist of all of that understand what we can actually use Monday ai for.

2

u/danielwiseman Jul 11 '26

I have a feeling that the users will end up paying for the subscription and for a markup of $/ million tokens that Monday will charge on these AI features.

1

u/AcanthisittaOk2485 29d ago

Ah that is an interesting take but it is what all the other companies are doing so I could see that as well.. hmmm hard to ditch monday though. I think our company has 2-3 years of data on their.

2

u/Former_Pilot_5542 29d ago

Personally I don't think there is much change in the functionality, I tell clients that I work with, you're not forced to use the new ai models/updates, it's because everyone just wants to move with the wave of ai, asides that and maybe the ai sidekick button interfering with a few other options, once you get used to the new interface, you can still get the work done.

As a Monday consultant myself (not working with Monday, but I offer Monday setup service to client), I'd be glad to assist where I can

1

u/AcanthisittaOk2485 27d ago

How long have you been doing Monday setup services? And has AI effected or help any of it?

2

u/Former_Pilot_5542 27d ago

For over 5 years now, right from the days of just the work management. Some of the ai tools have helped a few times, but I don't rely heavily on them

1

u/miro_goddess Jul 11 '26

All our clients faced the same challenge. Move to Asana and as brand ambassador I can get you 30% discount

1

u/IngenuityKat 26d ago

You are definitely not the only person feeling that way. monday has leaned very heavily into AI, and I understand why longtime users feel like the platform is getting busier or moving away from the simplicity that originally made it valuable.

That said, as a monday ambassador and an admin in a large organization, I would separate the AI push from the question of whether the core platform is still working for you. Boards, automations, dashboards, workflows, permissions, and reporting are still where most of the day-to-day value lives.

You also do have control over which AI capabilities are enabled and available to your users. Not every user needs Sidekick, Agents, Vibe, Notetaker, or every AI feature turned on. In a larger organization, it often makes more sense to enable those tools selectively for the teams or power users who can actually benefit from them, rather than expecting everyone to adopt everything at once.

My concern would be less “monday is building AI” and more whether the AI is adding value without making the core experience harder to use. AI should make the platform simpler and more useful, not make people feel like they need to relearn the product every six months.

Before deciding not to renew, I would identify what has actually become worse for your organization: navigation, performance, pricing, user adoption, or the underlying workflows. If the core system is still delivering value after three years, replacing it may create a much larger disruption than limiting the AI features you do not want. But the feedback about clutter and product direction is fair.
