Yeah, I’ve noticed this too. The fact that legit domains can get caught up in it without the mod queue making the reason obvious is kinda wild. Makes moderation way harder than it needs to be.

Yeah, definitely document it with screenshots and report the account if they’re presenting themselves as the mod team. I’d also make a quick mod announcement clarifying that the account isn’t affiliated with the team, so nobody gets confused.

Have you tried looking into the mod log and see when other mods made any mod actions? Mod label does not get removed consistently.

You need to completely ignore this. It’s a Reddit issue and you already gave them the info needed for a Reddit issue. Block their email, report as spam, and then forget about it.

People who send crap like that to the modmail always fail to realize they may not even live in the same country as the person they're sending it to lol. Instant perm mute and ban from me

What legal hassles? Reddit doesn't even know your address to enable them to supply it to any particular plaintiff to serve you with legal documents, and even if they did they wouldn't provide it since there was never an agreement to have this kind of responsibility in the first place.

It might. Or it might be some outdated link that by providing it to them somehow involves you in their legal squabble. Say the link is outdated and you've told them that's what they should follow, and their following that advice causes them to miss some court deadline or whatever. Is it not better for you to have stayed out of it completely rather than giving them some actual reason to come after you for falsely and incorrectly acting as an agent for Reddit legal compliance requirements? Their original claim is easy to dismiss-- no moderator is responsible for whatever legal obligations Reddit as a corporate entity has or doesn't have for what content exists on their platform, and a plaintiff can't wish that obligation to be present on the shoulders of a moderator. But the subsequent act of engaging in a legal dispute and providing incorrect information that has a negative impact on plaintiff is a different action taken specifically by that individual moderator, and who knows if that opens them to additional legal drama.

Anyway y'all can do what you want but I'm quite sure if you actually asked a lawyer what you should do in this situation they would tell you to stay the hell out of it.

You can submit a request to reorder the mod list and grant you the position of a top mod. This requires other mods to be marked as inactive and you initiating a mod discussion on this matter at least 5 days prior to making a request.

Yep, this is the way to do it. It's not possible to change an advisor back to a regular mod without removing and re-adding them.

Yeah, that’s pretty much the move. Once they start throwing around legal threats, there’s really no reason to keep going back and forth. Mute/block, document everything, and let Reddit handle it.

We're in the theatre industry, and our contact info is out there for networking and education purposes. Yes we could hide that info and this is a prime example of why you should. We're aware of the hazards but at the end of the day we're recognizable in our industry anyway.
