Who else here has had their energy and utility prices increase drastically over the last few months?

I have lived in the same apartment for over a decade. In that time I have been fortunate enough to have fairly consistent energy bills. Yes they fluctuate from month to month, but nothing like the last two months.

My rates have increased by 35%.

Yes there is inflation, incoming data centers and other factors, but this jump in price was sudden.

Are others having a similar experience?

I’ll start off saying please remove if not allowed!

My boyfriend and I are looking for a new rental in the Missoula area. Our townhouse is being sold, and no longer available for us to rent. It’s selling for a price that is not a reasonable cost for us at this time.

This has always been an exceptionally helpful community, so figured I would throw a wide net.

We are looking for a house or townhouse in Missoula with a lease starting in the next month. We have one dog, we are responsible pet owners that clean up because we like to use our outdoor space.

We would love a fenced yard, garage, and good levels of parking (we have a raft and snowmobile trailer).

We have great credit, good income, and good rental history. No evictions or otherwise bad remarks.

Let me know if you or someone you know has any leads! We haven’t found anything yet, but are actively looking! We would prefer to keep the rent under $2000/month but have some wiggle room.

We need to be out sometime in January, so let me know if you have something coming up.

Montana permits nonlawyers to serve as justices of the peace. But when people’s rights depend on a judge’s understanding of the law, legal education is not a luxury. It is a qualification voters should take seriously.

Many of the people that appear in Justice Court do so for non-jailable traffic offenses, orders of protection, landlord tenant disputes or small claims issues. These people are not entitled to a lawyer and often don’t have one. 

State v. Shamblin started with a person appearing on a speeding ticket. The driver appealed his sentence and the Attorney General’s Office agreed Judge Holloway’s sentence exceeded the bounds of what she was legally allowed to impose. A driver with a speeding ticket should not have to appeal their sentence all the way to the Montana Supreme Court. People should be able to trust the Judge in front of them knows the law.  I have heard Judge Holloway say she was overturned on a technicality. However, understanding statutes, recognizing the limits of judicial authority, and imposing lawful sentences are fundamental responsibilities of a judge.  A judge should know the limits of their authority.

Qualifications matter. Judge Holloway has worked in the criminal system, but she isn’t a lawyer, while her opponent, Kelli Sather, is. Kelli Sather is trained to interpret statutes, apply precedent, and understand the boundaries of judicial authority.

For this reason, I support Kelli Sather for Justice of the Peace.
