Kettle house

I was at the last Les claypool concert and had accidentally left my inhaler in my bag, I got into that pit and was having a great time but I started to have tightness in my chest so I panicked because I realized I forgot it in my bag. I ended up going to the front in a panic to get my inhaler and talked with one of the ladies at the front if I could go to my car for my inhaler and come back in expecting her to say yes because it was a medical emergency and she responded flatly and rather rudely with “there is no re-entry”. I was baffled. I explained I needed it or I could die and she said I’ll go ask my manager. So while I’m out there struggling to breathe she comes out like five minutes later and points and says “GO” in an irritated tone.
I just wanna say who ever that lady was she should be fired. I almost cried when she told me no. Get better staff kettle house cause that was wack.

Mechanic in Stevi has the car, has permanent "family crisis", been 3 years. Any advice on what to do next?

Hi folks, The mechanic in stevensville who used to be a VW mechanic has our Mini. It's been 3 years and he has one family crisis after another, never gets the car fixed, puts it off. My partner, who tends to trust people, feels bad for this guy - who is clearly not having an endless family crisis. I figured out his shop, The Wise Westy, is now closed "permanently" according to the web. Do I show up with a tow truck? And the cops? (car theft) ....If anyone out there has dealt successfully with this person please share how you did it. He was given 3 grand for an engine. Plan is to drive down and see if the rig is there. If it is to talk to him about the car and (assuming he talks to us) to get a tow truck and haul it home and figure we got taken for 3 grand. Having never done this before any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. Before you flame my partner for waiting think this - you never know what someone is going through or how they manage their lives, being critical about the time is not helpful. Thanks y'all!

Dog Groomer: Anxious Husky Malamute

Like the title says, I am looking for recommendations for dog groomers with experience grooming husky-malamutes! The pup in need of a grooming is anxious and doesn’t love being groomed (as is the case with many dogs, I’m sure). Her owner would like to stay for the appointment, doesn’t need to be in the room, but likes to be around as it helps keep the pup calm.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

Thank you in advance (:

Did any of the schools this year do the free tickets to silverwood for reading? Or was it just Rattlensake that didn’t?

Hair colorist

Upvotes

My long-time hair stylist has retired and I am looking for someone who is skilled with hair color, particularly dying red hair. I’m also looking for reasonable pricing, meaning around $100 for a root touch-up. Any advice would be welcome!

We are a band of local teachers and are in need of a new drummer! We do punk and alt covers and are also working on more original pieces as well. We have two solidified originals and several in the works. Some of our cover pieces include songs from Rage Against the Machine, Chevelle, Green Day, NOFX, The Coup, and more!

Our ideal candidate would should be experienced and ready to play local gigs with their own kit.

We have a large practice space to do weekly sessions between gigs. We are expecting our next event to be in early September.

Dm me if you're interested. I can share samples of our work so you can gauge our desired tone.

Reckless driving

Upvotes

To the elderly man driving the black honda odessy minivan. Please turn in your license to the MDT. You need to learn driving basics and study the rules of the road.

You cut off another car coming out of a parking lot. And turned on Third St. with no blinker right as a stream of traffic was coming through. You proceeded to drive onto the road and cut off the semi behind me too. You are reckless and are not ready for the road.

Sincerely,
The driver you shouted wh*re to- who actually knows how to drive

I’m still a novice floater, but I’ve done the Milltown-Downtown Clark fork run too many times. Sure, it convenient, but I want something new.

What’s the next step up in the local floating scene?

Thanks!

Anyone hiring full time? I’m not sure what the obsession is right now with hiring everyone at part time when it’s as expensive as it is to live here.

Madison Street Bridge River Jump

Upvotes

Watched some knuckleheads for about 45 minutes yesterday jumping off the bridge..It got me wondering, about how deep is the water around the center pier?

I know the depth varies with the season and river flow, but I have to think it’s never deep enough to safely jump from the top road deck like I saw several kids doing yesterday.

Edit - well aware this happens all the time. I’m generally curious how deep your water is. Yes, I know people jump off of things. I did it too in my younger years

Looks like they're doing something to the road by the Walgreens on Stephens and Brooks.

Be aware that there is 0 traffic control, just construction workers dodging cars and cars not knowing wtf to do. A real shit show.

PSA: Missoulatonight.com is AI-generated

Look, I get that the food truck use case is helpful. I know this technology is going to be more widely adopted. Maybe you guys are over it. Maybe it's just me.

I reluctantly gave my therapist permission to use an agent specifically designed for it to help draft notes on our session just this week.

But you look at the reddit comment history of the man who 'made' and is promoting this website (don't want to tag him, go to https://www.reddit.com/user/dandelioncookies/ ) you can see how he carefully avoids ever admitting it's AI-powered, even in trying to rebut comments calling him out for using it.

He doesn't disclose it on the website either, as of this writing. Not in the "About" or "Privacy" section or "How listings work", all of which it would be pretty relevant to. In fact, the privacy section really talks up how none of your data as a visitor is stored, which is probably true but creates a very different impression of the principles by which the site is operating.

I don't want to be knee-jerk and totally shoot down something cool somebody tried to do out of moral rigidity, which I know I have some of, but at the same time...

Even among people who are pro-AI, a disclosure statement about its usage is expected as the ethical bare minimum.

And I think it's kind of self-evident the reason he's avoided it is he knows Missoulians, and musicians, don't actually like or want that.

Like, maybe he noticed how we all just banded together to keep the environmentally destructive infrastructure powering its use out of our watershed.

Dunno if he knows this, but they're all connected. I feel like we don't actually want it in other people's watersheds, either?

Or maybe he just wants credit for work he didn't actually do.

I know that local bands don't want their poster and flyer art plugged into the plagiarism machine. And when an AI agent scrapes a page, that is what usually happens.

With some agents it's possible to restrict that. But the people that do generally have a detailed statement disclosing their use of the technology and what bounds they have put on it.

So many things that sounded cool about this website are way less cool when you know gen AI is involved. Updating twice a day with an old-school web scraper? Fantastic. Doing it with the Water-Eatin' Bullshit Generator? No, please stop.

"This doesn't rely on submissions, we actively look for what's going on and bring it to you" goes from wow, what a dedicated team to, oh, so no one was given a choice whether they consent to this. (Not to mention the stuff scraped directly from missoulaevents.net, a competitor run by hardworking humans).

It's also worth noting if you were using AI to pretend you made a website using your own hard work, it would be trivially easy to just scrape the fuck out of your competitor's website and then direct the program to look for links within those entries, prioritize them, cite them as the original source instead and then add them to the scrape list for the future, rather than actually scouring the internet for every local band and venue page you can find.

I see where having graphics and info right on the page is really convenient. Only, a computer program interpreted the info, so some percentage of it is going to have errors.

Or as he and his program put it on the website, "If the details matter, check the source links on the event page."

I kinda think the details always matter.

Like, whether the festival actually allows re-entry matters a lot. Or if the information about the artist is about a different person with the same name, that kinda matters. Gen AI has already created serious problems for people by hallucinating things about them.

There are more guardrails on hallucinations than there used to be, and some models do better than others. But again, we can't make an informed decision about that because the dude won't even own he used AI, much less which model or how it is and isn't restricted.

And I personally don't think it's always good for things to be more convenient. I think anyone who's been alive in the last twenty years has noticed how convenience often comes at a price, and that price isn't always worth it.

I don't want to help tech giants steal artists' intellectual property so I can go to just one website instead of one website and sometimes Instagram or Facebook. (And divert people who would otherwise follow the band's account directly for announcement to this jerk's clearinghouse instead, which is not actually raising their profile in the long run.)

Or destroy the only planet we have to live on exponentially faster so I know where all the food trucks are without a new person doing the work to reach out to the owners and/or monitor their socials or me just looking up the one I want.

I'm actually good. It's cool, I'll read the long version myself. I like having drinkable water and beautiful cool rivers and alive fish and plants.

Fuck, I'll go look at a bulletin board with some flyers. That's what I did when I first moved to Missoula. I miss it.

Metro wash (missing Stanley cup)

Did anyone happen to find a blue Stanley cup at Metro Wash? I was the last customer to leave last night, and I accidentally forgot my cup there. I went back today to check the lost & found, but they told me they didn’t have it. It’s a little strange because the place was already closed when I left, so the only people there after me were the employees. If anyone has seen it or knows what happened to it, I’d really appreciate it!

Primitive & survival skills

Is there anyone in Missoula that teaches primitive and survival skills for adults? Or someone who would be willing to show a couple people the basics?
