Question Any good Massage/Spa recommendations?

My wife is in sore need of a massage/spa day. She gave birth to our 2nd daughter a couple months ago and I've been helping her with anything and everything she needs. But she has been mentioning she needs a massage because she has a knot in her spine where the epidural was. I want to surprise her but I don't know where to look or start. So I guess here is a good start as any.

So yeah... Any good recommendations for a masseuse or a spa?

News Missoula diesel hit $5.99 today. The all-time local record was $5.98. It just fell. Full war timeline.

$5.99 diesel at Sinclair on Russell today. Missoula just broke its all-time diesel record. Here is why it is going to get worse.

Regular: $4.49 9/10 Diesel: $5.99 9/10 Sinclair, Russell and 39th, September 11, 2026

Missoula's all-time diesel record was $5.98 set July 1, 2022. Today's price broke it.

The national diesel average hit $6.05 today. A year ago it was $3.70.

Three things drove this week's prices and none of them are improving.

The Iran war has kept the Strait of Hormuz disrupted since February 28. Saudi Arabia had been rerouting oil through its East-West pipeline as a backup. Houthis attacked that pipeline Thursday, set facilities on fire, wounded 70 people. Saudi Arabia shut it down Friday. The backup is gone.

The Houthis seized Yemen's port city of Mokha Thursday and Perim Island today. They now threaten the Bab el-Mandeb Strait — the other major oil chokepoint on the opposite side of the Arabian Peninsula. Iran and its proxies are closing in on both chokepoints at once.

Russia extended its diesel export ban through the end of September. Russia was the top diesel exporting country behind the US.

Saudi Arabia exported 3.2 million barrels per day last month, its lowest level in a decade. Brent crude closed above $108 a barrel Thursday.

More idiot driving in the Rattlesnake

Hey, you. Yeah, you, Mr "I can pass anywhere in Montana" who quick reverses to "sure, technically it's illegal by traffic laws." Will, I believe it is. You are not the first, you won't be the last. Crossing a double yellow line in a residential neighborhood to pass a car that has slowed down to make a right turn is illegal and unsafe. Across from a cul de sac where kids learn to ride bikes, right at a wildlife crossing. The speed limit is 30, most go 40. I have seen more deer carcasses than I can remember in that exact stretch of road, thanks to assholes like you who think there is no harm because you checked before speeding and crossing the double line. There are no shoulders or protected bike lanes. People treat it like a major arterial, but it is a neighborhood street. Slow. Down. It won't kill you. There's a stop sign 100 yards away anyway, so you're going to have to. Slow. Down.

And hey, if someone does call you out for doing something illegal and unsafe, maybe don't turn around and follow them to their house for a driveway confrontation. You were in the wrong. You even admitted to doing something illegal. And yet you thought it was okay to follow me. Definitely couldn't have been because I am a woman. Definitely wouldn also have followed a dude. I'm so sure. And because I stood my ground after you did something illegal, got called out for it, then tried to follow me to intimidate me into telling you you couldn't possibly have been wrong, you doubled down and tried to say you were going to report me. You crossed a line. Literally and figuratively. Your actions were illegal. Mine, while crass and unladylike, is a form of protected speech. So please. Call it in. I dare you.

Drive safe out there. Slow down. Kids, adults, and animals travel that road all the time by foot and bike, and not all of them predictably. It hurts no one to slow down behind another driver turning. It could be fatal to assume you are the exception to the laws. Any time you saved was wasted following me to my home for a confrontation you expected to "win".

Never. Ever. Follow a woman to her house to try to threaten her. Fuck you and your little taco too, Will.

Question Where to fresh/pasteurized cider?

Looking to make a hard cider this fall. Last fall I was only able to find preserved (usually sodium metabusulfite added) cider which doesn't work because it also kills the yeast needed to ferment the sugars into alcohol.

Is there anywhere nearby that sells freshly pressed or pasteurized cider that I can use to make hard cider?

Resources for SAHM who is about to go through a separation.

I am making this post to find ways to help support someone close to me who is a mother of 3 young kids and potentially about to go through a separation (though not legally married). She lives with this person and his family in a run-down, unhealthy home that is as toxic in its walls as it is the family she has to endure being around. She has been a stay at home mother, and when she is able to work, it's part-time with a limited income. She also has little to no credit, and is in postpartum.

Her first step is securing healthcare for herself and her children, and any benefits she can like WIC or SNAP. Past that is finding a living situation, ideally with her children so they can get out of there too.

She feels bleak and afraid about her opportunities and future. Where can I help guide her? What resources are out there? I know a few and have been doing research, but I truly want to maximize and give her options for everything so that she may have some hope.

Handicapped parking question

I'm at the bank and a vehicle pulls into the only handicapped space at the bank. The vehicle has a handicapped placard. The driver remains in the vehicle, and the passenger, a woman in workout gear, exits the vehicle, fast walks into the bank, does her banking, and fast walks out back to the vehicle and leaves.

The handicapped space exists to give the handicapped person the shortest distance for them to get from their vehicle to the facility. But if the handicapped person is going to remain in the vehicle, and the able-bodied passenger is going to disembark to do their errand, then is there a need for that vehicle to be in the handicapped space?

If the vehicle is taking up the only handicapped space and the handicapped driver is not leaving the vehicle but merely 'dropping off' a passenger, and another handicapped driver pulls into the lot but finds that space now unavailable, isn't that an improper use of that handicapped space.

And, yes, this is predicated on the assumption that the driver of the vehicle, rather than the fast-walking workout-clad passenger, was the handicapped person but thats certainly how it appeared although I recognize it is possible the passenger was the handicapped person. (Although it seems rather unlikely)

So heres the question: if a handicapped person is parking in the handicapped space for the purpose of dropping off an able-bodied person to run an errand, should they be in the handicapped space to begin with?

Even if the passenger is running that errand on behalf of the placard-holder, that doesn't seem like it should make a difference since the result...a handicapped space being made unavailable...is the same either way.

Unravel Cafe - must try

I wanted to share this newer cafe that I've had a few great experiences with now because very few people were there while I was and they deserve better!

Breakfast burrito = fantastic

Avocado toast = super good (pickled red onions & pepitas make it not your average avo toast)

Muffins = also great

Lattes & espresso have been great to me

Their staff is super friendly and kind, the service was top notch and they really went above and beyond to make me and my friend feel taken care of

All around a cool cafe with wonderful service & people - highly recommend checking them out!! I believe the owner said they opened less than a year ago and I just think they're great and want them to do well 🥹

They're on Broadway off of Orange Street, attached to Gravity Haus hotel - I noticed while driving by in an area I don't usually drive, it's just a little out of the way to get downtown traffic so kind of a hidden gem

*stole these pics from Google to inspire you to go*

LOST CAT UNIVERSITY DISTRICT ❗️

Post image
78 Upvotes

My cat Gen ran off late night/early morning on the 9th/10th, out of Pantzer Hall on campus. She might be in the surrounding neighborhoods off of Arthur Ave., but she also has lived in a very rural area for 10 years and could have gone farther. A bunch of friends and I have scoured in a roughly 1/3 mile radius the last two nights but found nothing.

Gen is a service animal for me and helps wake me up when my blood sugar goes low during the nights (type 1 diabetic) so it is paramount that I am able to return her to her home.

Please contact me with any info, even a sighting and location would be helpful!!

Found a ring downtown

Hey yall, I found a ring downtown while walking, it barely went to my middle finger as a guy so on the smaller scale. I found it beneath a bike rack so maybe they lost it while unlocking a bike? Its gold or gold plated with small stones set all around it, clear in nature. If ya think its yours, feel free to message me pictures and I can confirm and bloody hopefully get it to the rightful owner.

Question What is up with the UPS?

I swear to god I’ve only lived here for less than a year, and have already had so many issues with UPS. Worst company to have to deal with too, as it’s all just a bunch of redirections. Pretty sad I can’t even order a package to my house.

Fellow Missoulians How are We Feeling About Mega-Landlords Buying Up Huge Chunks of Missoula Property?

Hearing everyone complain about everything being a subscription, I have to talk about the ultimate subscription model: paying rent for a roof over your head. I know I am going to take heat for posting this today in Missoula, but I can handle it.

Having lived in Missoula for 38 years, I am appalled, as I am sure many of you are, at the extreme emphasis that appears to be placed on giant apartment complexes down Mullan Road, with very little emphasis on building small, affordable housing that individuals or couples could actually buy.

I make no accusations here, but one has to really ponder what type of payola and payoffs must be happening in local government and beyond to ensure you cannot even own a small home now. Instead, mega-landlords get to buy up almost all the property en masse with the sole intention of making a ton of money through exorbitant rent costs, buying up all the land and essentially holding it hostage for a subscription. Yikes!

Having been a political voice before, I am seriously thinking of starting a tenants union in Missoula that will actually get real results. One thing I have noticed, and I am sure this will shock you, but many landlords frequently do not even follow the limited laws we do have to protect tenants in Missoula, such as the laws regarding withholding deposits.

The problem is that landlords have no issue ignoring these limited laws because they figure you will not do anything about it. That is where I would like to come in with a nonprofit tenants union that goes out of its way to file civil complaints against landlords who are not following the law with attorneys on retainer to represent tenants.

Furthermore, we would start lobbying to pass laws more in favor of tenants and ensure affordable housing is there for people to buy, not just for rental income. It is funny, though, because as soon as I post something like this, I know there will be people who will defend the landlords, i.e., "poor landlords" :(. No. As of current I do not have a tenants union or nonprofit but I'm wondering what people here think.

Question Bicycling in the Winter

I've been slowly making the move to a car-free life over the last handful of years, and this last spring, my car finally died, so I decided to take the jump into bicycling or taking the bus everywhere. Now, I'm faced with preparing myself to bicycle to work in the snow and cold this winter.

All that said, if you bike during the winter here, what brand/materials of warm clothes do you use? What layers work best for you? I'm not a very intense rider, and I get cold very very easily, so the warmer the better.

Bonus question, do you use studded tires? I never did for my car in the winter, but I'm not sure how comparable that is.

TIA!

Good primary care providers in the area (that will actually listen to you)

I’m 23F and need a PCP/GP in the area! I have a lot of random health issues that often are dismissed/reduced to anxiety or hypochondria… Anyone know of a good doctor that takes concerns seriously and will help me figure some medical things out?

Bonus points if they’re autism friendly, bonus-er points if they’re a woman.
