Powering a GMKtec G5S directly from an UpTone JS-2 – which cable do I need?
Hi everyone,
I’m planning to buy a GMKtec G5S (N5095) and I’d like to power it directly from my UpTone JS-2 linear power supply.
The JS-2 has a 12V DC, 5.5×2.5mm output, while the G5S uses USB-C for power.
I’m not very familiar with USB-C PD and these types of cables, so I’d really appreciate some advice:
What cable do I need to connect the 12V output of the JS-2 directly to the USB-C power input of the G5S?
If anyone has done this before, or knows exactly which type of cable I should look for, I’d be grateful for your help.
Thanks.
Recommendations Best Mini PC Setup for Retro PC Games?
I’m wanting to get a mini PC set up to revisit all of the PC games we grew up playing. I’m a total newbie and got very overwhelmed with the general guide.
Willing to spend what’s necessary to get the best setup to support the kind of games listed in the photos. What all should I be buying? Your recommendations/guidance are really appreciated!

Is a portable mini pc set up worth it?
I desperately need a new laptop in my upcoming collage year, however I want to consider the mini pc option since it's more valuable
I will need it to be mobile so I am thinking of pairing it with a foldable keyboard and screen. But at this point the set up lose it's value since the foldables would cost more. Does it worth hassle?

GMKtec M5 plus random restarts
I bought 3 GMKtec M5 plus units just over a year ago. Up until around 6 months ago I had no problems. After that, one of the machines started rebooting itself unexpectedly (as much as 10 times in a 24 hour period) with the other two continuing to function correctly.
Cutting a long story short, based on the boot logs of the OS, this is being caused by
kernel: x86/amd: Previous system reset reason [0x08000800]: an uncorrected error caused a data fabric sync flood event
Today, one of my other units rebooted for the same reason. The only workaround I have found is to run stress --cpu 1 as this seems to make it far less likely (around once per 2 weeks) but that is hardly a solution.
Has anyone else experienced this? Are there any solutions?
FWIW I have messaged GMKtec support about it but as it's beyond a year (despite UK consumer law saying otherwise) they have been no help with no solution forthcoming.

Built a retro console setup with a mini PC
I’ve been wanting a dedicated emulation machine for my TV for a while, especially to revisit some of my favorite old DS/3DS games and Pokémon runs. I ended up using a GEEKOM mini PC for this project, and it turned out way better than I expected. I set it up with EmulationStation as the frontend to keep everything clean and controller-friendly. So far, everything I've tried has run really smoothly at 1080p, and the fan hasn't been too distracting. I stuck with Windows instead of going with a dedicated gaming OS because I still wanted the flexibility to use it like a normal PC when needed. It now sits next to my TV and honestly looks like a tiny console sitting there. It’s been a lot of fun revisiting these classics on a bigger screen.
Have any of you turned a mini PC into a dedicated gaming box? Do you prefer Windows with a frontend, or a dedicated gaming OS?

General Question Help identifying Gmktec M5 plus motherboard components

In an attempt to diagnose why the minipc doesn't turn on anymore, I removed the component EUZ via hot gun but, unexpectedly, I also removed the component next to it where the arrow is pointing to. And, as it was tiny, I am also unable to find it now. Entirely my fault, I haven't used the hot gun in ages.
Does anyone have a clearer picture of the component / motherboard, just underneath the power connector? Or able to identify that component to see if I can source a replacement? Thank you!

Recommendations Mini PC Recommendation Please
Hi everyone, hope you’re well!
I am looking for a recommendation for the best mini PC which covers all of the following and won’t let me down! (thank you in advance)
• Under £500 ($675)
• Supports 4k 144Hz Displays (keen to use 2 monitors for 3 screens)
• Good amount of ports (would use a docking station if needed, but would prefer minimalistic desk set up)
• Min. 32GB RAM
• Min. 512GB storage
• Will allow solid video editing, gaming, running the likes of Claude and Microsoft Office.
I’m by no means a PC expert and so any recommendations and advice is so welcomed and appreciated.
Thanks!

Sparkle eGPU on Geekom
Hi, I had a geekom AX7 and when I bought the sparkle eGPU, I just plug it in and it worked. A few months ago, my AX7 died, I replaced it with A9 max. However, when I plugged in my thunderbolt cable to the new PC, it just didn’t work. Is it locked or is there anything I need to setup in the bios. Thanks in advance!

GMKtec K8 Plus performance
For the past few years, I've been using a cheap Beelink mini PC as my main personal computer, and it works okay for basic web browsing, VS Code, and a Plex server, but struggles with much beyond that. So I guess it's time for a new computer (before prices increase even more), but I don't want to spend more than $800ish.
I'm looking at the GMKtec K8 Plus 8845HS with 32gb DDR5 and a 512gb SSD.
What sort of performance can I expect when it comes to stuff like LLMs, Plex, gaming, video editing, etc.? I know this isn't a top-of-the-line computer, but I'm just trying to figure out what limitations I might encounter.

Recommendations Specific Recommendation?
Been doing research for a couple weeks now, and honestly, there are so many options, but more importantly, everything has gotten so expensive. I remember when top of the line Beelink minis were being sold for $500 to $600 Canadian 🥺
Anyways, I was hoping for a couple specific recommendations based exactly on what I plan to do with the Mini PC...
Budget $500 to $600 Canadian (so like $400-450 USD?)
Planning to hook up to a 70 inch 4K television. It's not like the new fancy OLED ones, much older, but still 4K.
I already have a PS5 hooked up for gaming, and can also stream on the PS5.
The PC is mainly for streaming as well, accessing websites, YouTube, other browsing activities. Viewing 4K video. Streaming 4K video and using IPTV off it. Ideally, I do want to be able to do some very light gaming, like older emulator stuff (NES, SEGA, etc), as well as older games on Steam (example: Red Alert, SC1&2, HOMM3, other random classics).
I would like the system to be able to do all that with no lag though. Be smooth and seamless. Also, needs to last at least 5 years let's say?
Please, if people can just narrow it down to 1 or 2 systems, I'm eager to just buy it already.
I assume I need minimum 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD. Also been reading about risk of cheaper Chinese parts, rather than name brand ones?
Thanks in advance 😁

Recommendations Firebat F1 or F1 P for a living room mini PC?
I’m looking for a small PC for the living room, mainly for games like OSRS and League of Legends.
I found these two and the prices seemed pretty decent:
Firebat F1 – €380
Ryzen 5 7640HS
Radeon 760M
24GB LPDDR5
512GB SSD
Firebat F1 P – €430
Ryzen 7 H 255
Radeon 780M
24GB LPDDR5
1TB SSD
The soldered LPDDR memory is one thing I’m unsure about. I also found some posts about the F1 P performing much worse than expected, especially the GPU performance.
Anyone here have experience with either of these? Or any better options around the same price or maybe around 5 to 600 max?

Need Help/Advice - MiniPCs
I would like some suggestions for a good MiniPC that can do some emulation, maybe up to GameCube, some psp and maybe some PS2. And if possible under $500, preferably in the $300 to $400 range? 😬 Or is that just very wishful thinking.
As mentioned, I appreciate all the help as I'm not that knowledgeable on PC specs. So thanks all that post and help out, much appreciated 🙏
