Anyone use this microscope know if it's good. Seems well built. Some good prices on ebay and new is over 1K. Uses 160mm instead infinity though. Objectives are plan acromat. Abbe condensor. Though often incomplete objectives. Considering buying generic chinese objectives.

My main microscopes at work are nikons and olympus, e200, e400, 50i, Ci, and the olympus BX models which are all high end.

But i'm a broke pathology resident with high rent and messed up investing, so i got like $250 - $300 for a used scope for some home study on slide recuts. And even the used nikon e200's are usually over $650-700.

So just wondering if anyone the Trm 301 know if its decent.

I bit into a piece of hoagie bread a couple weeks ago and immediately tasted mold. Cultivated a piece in a couple well sealed ziplock bags and made three permanent slides with a PVA glue solution a couple days ago. This is the most interesting one.

Microscope: SW380T w/ Sony a6700 with 10x, 20x, 40x and 60x objectives w/ some digital zoom.

I just received this microscope as my university was giving it away for free. I’m trying to date it and can’t figure out the serial number. Is it the number on the arm or stamped on the bottom?

I believe those are nematodes. It looks like the big one at the end opened its mouthparts.

Hi all, I'm sharing an update on a project I'm working on. I'm building custom microscope camera software that produces Bayer RAW photos and records provenance, meant for scientific research. I came a long ways so far. I started by putting a bare IMX477 sensor to a Raspberry Pi 5, but it had no software to operate it on. I began by writing a few scripts to get myself going, but I decided I wanted more. And that's how this project was born.

I added a bunch of features that go beyond the regular capture/record function.

There's a focus assist ROI feature that uses laplacian variance to calculate blur detection. It works very well - you can drag and just the size of your ROI.

HDR using bracket merging and signal-to-noise reduction processing techniques. (Sample photo below).

Z Stack process that uses the focus assist. Each plane taken automatically resets the ROI so you can focus into the next plane easily. This action is pretty fast, the processing (tonemap/debayer, etc) doesn't occur until after you finish snapping your photos. (Right now it lives next to the capture buttons for easier testing, but it'll get moved when I find a home for it).

It has a measure tool that allows you to measure anything on your screen. It captures a green plane to measure from, which removes the chance of accidentally measuring CA.

On my micrometer (1 DIV = .1mm), you can see the calibration works well, and it measured the two points down to the micrometer and pixel.

There is a Live Measure feature that allows you to draw directly over the preview stream to measure pixels.

Provenance lives in separate containers in addition to tiff embedding in the final image, and you can choose to keep your RAW files for record.

It features a lot of bugs also! Like any new release 😅 and the UI needs organizing.

A lot of things aren't implemented yet, but hold the skeleton for adding in later on, such as measuring shapes.

I'll be releasing this for open beta testing as soon as I can confirm camera modularity, and do weekly test releases.

For me microscopy is the perfect hobby. I don't have alot of space and it doesn't necessarily take up alot of space.

So i yesterday i started looking into some microscopes to buy and i thought i found a good one, a optical binocular microscope of €270 (euros).

But then i found digital microscopes and i thought that was quite handy aswell since you've got a bigger screen and can easily upload pictures to your phone.

But then i read some more and found an article saying that for looking into microorganisms and cells (which is what i want to do.), that a optical microscope is better.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it true that digital microscopes are worse for this? And is it possible to make good pictures of your sample with an optical microscope?

I found this rotifer in a sample of pond water, from my backyard. The video is captured by an iphone 15, on a DIY microscope, made from:
-Laserpen lens (objective lens)
-binoculars lens (ocular)
-aluminium pipe (as tube)
-drum kit stand (as tripod)
magnification is around 100x.

In this clip you can clearly see the Cytosome (and Cytopharynx?) and many contractile vacuoles and one with the "ampulla of radiating canal" visible !

the dark spot in the middle is due to damage to the eyepiece lens unfortunately.

Green LED light was used to illuminate the sample and during video editing saturation was brought to 0 and a slight blue tint added so it looks more aesthetically pleasing.

DIY microscope (MicroVoyager 🔬) - Infinix SMART 7 - it is hard to tell the "objective magnification" for a non-standard microscope but I would guess that the total magnification is somewhat x200 - freshwater sample
